2020 brides

Holly, on March 16, 2019 at 5:18 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28
Any 2020 brides already have your dress? I’m getting married June 2020 and while it seems so far away, I guess it really isn’t! I’m wondering when I should start looking for my dress? WW checklist says 12-10 months out, but my friends say 9-7 months out is fine. My taste changes a lot so I’m just scared of buying a dress early and then hating it a few months later!

I think 9-12 months out is fine, but I wouldn't wait until 7 months out. Most designer gowns take 4-6 months to come in, but some even go up to 8 months. You'll also need time for alterations. 7 months would be pushing it and that's if you find one as soon as you start shopping. If you shop at a chain store like David's Bridal, the turnaround times are typically shorter.

I would say give yourself 9-10 months. A lot of times they have to order you a dress which takes 4-6 months to come in. But then you will have multiple dress fitting and alterations appointments after your dress comes in so you need to make sure to leave time for that as well. One thing that I was told was that after you find and purchase your wedding gown STOP LOOKING. That’s what’s going to make you second guess yourself.

When I was dress shopping everyone I put a dress on my thoughts would be something like “this dress makes me look so thin, I like the beading on this one, my butt looks so nice, etc. but when I found my dress my thoughts changed from those listed to “omg, I’m getting married.” And That’s what made me cry myself, and at that point I knew it was the dress for me. I also brought a ton of people with me for my appointment (all 6 of my bridesmaids, my mom, his mom, and my step mom. I’ve heard that there’s a lot of opinions but really you should bring whoever and however many you want! (That last paragraph wasn’t needed but just a little experience advice as well)

Hi month and year twin. I tweaked my checklist and I did 7-9 months for my dress so it doesn't give me chance to change my mind. But also my MOH wants to come being shes my best friend and I would probably do her dress shopping that same day because she LIVES across the country.

March 2020 for me. Got engaged on 9/18/18. Put holding deposit on dress on oct 27, 2018 and bought dress fully on dec 8, 2018. Yea maybe a little early for me but when you find the dress you just know. I still love my dress every time I see it and can’t imagine my self in something else Smiley smile

I’m glad you found “the one”! I’m sure I will have that experience too, just nervous because I don’t know what to expect!

Oh hi! What day in June? And I’m sorta in a similar situation, one of my closest bridesmaids lives a few states away and it’s hard to try to coordinate visits!

June 27th 2020. Im hoping my dress and her dress shopping would be the same day as well as only really a couple times a year for other things. Bridal Shower and actually that's it i think. It should be easy. Hopefully

April 25, 2020 is our date! I just bought my dress last weekend! Unless you’re buying off the rack, it can take up to 6 months to get your dress back. Then tack on 3 months for alterations and fittings. Now is the perfect time to start dress try ons so you have a time cushion if you don’t fall in love with one right away!

Our date is May 2020 I was thinking of going like 10 months before or so. Since I really don’t have an idea of what I want I was told I should go now to try a bunch of different styles and get a better idea so when I’m ready to shop I’ll know what to look for.

I'm getting married in October 2020 and I bought my dress in 2017. I'll be doing alterations at the beginning of next year. I found my dress and had to have it.

I think that’s the best advice too. Once I find my dress I’m seriously deleting my wedding dress Pinterest board and unfollowing the dress boutique pages on Instagram haha. Don’t want to be tempted to look at other dresses at all.

I'm probably in the minority on this one lol, but I bought my dress in March 2018 for my June 2019 wedding and I've never had a single regret... actually my dress is probably the only wedding-related thing that I've never regretted or changed my mind about hahaha. Once I started picturing myself in that dress, and incorporating the image of myself in that dress as part of the vision of my wedding day, I seriously couldn't imagine wearing anything else. You do have to especially consider if you worry you may gain/lose weight between now and then. I have been the same weight for about a decade so I wasn't worried about that, but it is something to keep in mind. Also if you buy it early make sure you store it in a place it won't get wrinkled or sun damaged. I have mine hung in the back of my closet in a garment bag... it's been there for a year now and it's just as beautiful as the day I bought it!

Also something else to consider, you may have to shop around before you actually find "the one" so it is probably better to start looking sooner rather than later if you think you may want more time for that. Lucky for me I found "the one" in my first bridal shop visit but I definitely didn't expect to, partly why I started looking so early. If you start at like 9 months out and you don't find "the one" immediately, that could get stressful.
