200 guest wedding.. seating help

Kirstie819, on December 13, 2016 at 6:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

We're having about 200 guests at our wedding. I was trying to think of ways to let people know where they're sitting so they don't have to crowd around a large poster... Any ideas? I was thinking maybe something like this (see below)

Those are cute, but the fancier you go the more expensive. Even just a table with escort cards would be fine, that's what we did.

I believe the rule of thumb for favors on here is that they're optional, but if you're going to have them, go edible.

As for the seating chart, you could do signs per table. My aunt did this. People walked around the reception area, found their seats based on the smaller signs, and that was that.

The bottles wouldn't be our favors, oh and I'd do water bottles not coke. We're having candied pecans as our actual favors

I think the water bottles would be a little weird.. If you're going to use something like that, make it something that ties into your theme or level of formality. Or just keep it simple with cards.

Just do escort cards on a table. It's not going to prevent crowding though. People will still stand there looking for their names. It won't take as long though since you'll be lining them up alphabetically.

I had 165 names on my seating chart, and there wasn't really a problem - I think adults can take a hot second to find their name and move along. Generally, people are milling about during cocktail hour, and seat themselves at the reception in a steady flow instead of a massive rush all at once.

My wedding planner is doing a large poster of the seating chart, her reasoning behind it made perfect sense. She said that when you do things like the picture you posted above, people often sit wherever they want and then say that's where they were told to sit and since you you have nothing to verify off of (like a board) there's really nothing you can do

We're doing straight up escort cards, which will also have meal choice on them.

I got ones from Wilton, so they're printable

You could do just simple escort cards with people's table numbers and their name! That's usually how most people do it and it works well!

We had little jars of candy with people's names on them, and those were the favors.

And yikes with the candied pecans for favors. I suggest thinking long and hard about whether any of your guests have allergies. If I were somewhere where a large amount of people started eating pecans, I'd unfortunately have to leave. (I know you can't think of every little thing for every person, but its worth a try)
