2 year engagement timeline

Rachel, on April 12, 2012 at 12:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

So I just got engaged on April 7 but we're not planning on actually getting married until June 2014 so I can graduate first. I was wondering about a timeline or checklist that spans two years. Does anyone know of one? Like when should we do engagement photos if we want them on the save the dates? How early should we send them out? Each side will have to travel 5 hours or one side will have to do 10. I'm not really sure when to start or even where. I really appreciate any advice.

Also the wedding will either be in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area or way far up in northern MN

Here on wedding wire there is a check list that times things out really well. Start with a budget and then look at locations and for your dress.

I agree with starting a budget.. decide how much you can put away each month and multiply that by the number of months until the wedding (although I would do a couple months sooner to be on the safe side). This will give you a good idea on how much you have to spend/save up for.. if you aren't ready to look at the financial side of it, that's fine.. engagement photos would be a great way to kick of your engagement.. maybe have a small celebration with a group of friends and family to announce it! I wish DH and I had done that. Smiley smile We meant to, but our friends were spread out pretty far at the time..

Anywho.. use this time to do your research, look up venues, get an idea for how much weddings actually cost, get on Pinterest and start pinning things that you would want for your wedding and read wedding magazines! You're at the fun, stress-less stage Smiley smile Enjoy it! <3

Hi Rachel! Congratulations and welcome to WW. Please put a profile pic up so we can recognize you :-)

I've also been engaged for about 2 years (it'll be 25 months by the time my wedding comes around for total engagement time). We started very early on by having a budget and shopping around for what we wanted. We entered contests for free things and won our engagement photo shoot through that avenue. We really just took our time and decided what we really wanted and how we would pay for it. Decided on the budget first then make a list of things you want and what is important to you and go from there.

Start with your budget. start looking at venues to get somewhat of a price idea... if you can book one this year then they usually let you get 2012 prices. Engagement pics shouldn't be done for a while since STD's dont need to go out till about 6 months before your wedding

Hi and Welcome to WW! My wedding is in 2014 as well. There's no checklist that really that spans back 24 months. Everything you should be doing now is usually in the 12 months or earlier section. You simply should be setting a budget and researching. Research, research, research. I would take 6-8 months to research photographers, venues, DJs, wedding dresses and then being following a checklist.

Congrats! We are also waiting 2+ years to get married, it was just a personal decision for us. So far, we have reserved our venue (ceremony and reception at one place), I have started a wedding binder that is filled with info that I got from a Bridal Extravaganza. I agree with some other posters in definitely locking down your venue because you can get it for 2012 price for a 2014 wedding Smiley smile
