2 year engagement timeline?

Rebecca, on May 5, 2017 at 12:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

Due to some events going on we are thinking of having a 2 year engagement. I've looked online and all I see are planning timelines for a year. Does anyone have a timeline for a 2 year engagement? Has anybody done this how do you go about plannjng and booking everything?

I'm Also Getting Married 2 Years After My Engagement. I Simply Look At As A Blessing Because There Is More Time To Come Up With Money For Things & Plan. I Have Spent My First Year Looking At Venues & Dresses & Looking For Decor. This Way I Know The Prices Of Everything & Am Prepared. I'd Pay For Things Closer To The Beginning Of The 2nd Year To Be Safe & Make Sure Everything Is Secure.

I am. I have just slowly bought stuff when possible and book my venue as soon as I found one I liked. Now I just have to wait to get the photographer and flowers

    I'm in the same boat.

I can't book my venue until next June which means I can't book my photographer, caterer or DJ until then either.

Right now I'm focusing on saving money and figuring out exactly what I want for the wedding.

I figure if I do it now, then I don't have to worry about it later.

We've come up with the vendors that we want as well as 3 alternatives in case the ones we want are already booked on our day.

I'll go dress shopping eventually to get an idea of what I like but until then, I'm just hanging out on WW learning proper etiquette so I don't screw up. Haha.

@MrsFall glad you said something, that was a pain to read!

OP- I did a two year engagement as well. It really does fly by. Get your budget and guest list straightened out and firm and then check out venues. We booked 18 months out and it locked us in to 2016 prices which is great! I was super picky with the photographer and they book quickly so I would start researching.

We're doing the same thing. We got engaged last October. We have a little one and just bought a house and are paying are the wedding ourselves so a one year engagement was not going to happen for us. I'm enjoying the 2 year engagement because I'm not stressing every month. I've had months of doing a lot of planning then have months of doing nothing.

I did want the bigger items out of the way so we have our venue, photographer and caterer selected and booked.

The DJ and Bar are preselected for us.

2+ year engagement here as well, we booked our venue early so we could set a date. Then we've just done things little by little in terms of other vendors. I'm a little over a year out now and we're buckling down on everything else this summer.

We had a two year engagement as well. We booked the venue and the photographer almost immediately and then set the planning aside for a year or so. We didn't want to be in planning mode all that time, but you can also choose to do a little bit at a time over the entire span.

While we will not have a 2 year engagement, I can say that for my venue when booked in August of last year, was already quite filled up into summer 2018! There's another venue near us that I know has a 2.5 year waiting list for Saturday weddings (brand new so quite the draw). Some venues may not want to sign a contract with you that early, but some may! Just be honest with all venues/vendors when you're calling!

Thanks for all the advice ladies! We have been together 5 years and I have been waiting to get engaged for the last 2. Now that I am I kinda wanna plan everything and get this wedding under way. I truly think waiting 2 years is better. I'll go with that.

A good piece of advice i got was to book vendors who can only do one wedding a day first (venue, band/DJ, photographer) and then focus on other vendors like cake, hair/makeup, and flowers. the main benefit to a longer engagement is that you can just spread out the items on the timeline so you aren't working on wedding stuff every weekend.

By the time of the wedding, we're going to have had a 3-year engagement. Honestly, things change so much, that I didn't even start planning until about 15 months out. I wouldn't stress about it too much. Think about around what time of year you want to get married and work backwards. Set your budget, approx. guest number, and pick a venue. The rest will fall into place. Good luck!

Our wedding will take place 6 years after officially getting engaged, but we did no wedding planning for the first 3-4 years because I was still in college when he proposed, and we wanted to get our lives together first, which took longer than expected. The biggest perk of having a 2+ year planning timeline has been that I have not been stressed about anything. Not saying everything has been super easy, but the fact that we had so much time meant that I didn't feel rushed in choosing my vendors. And when I'm spending significant amounts of money, I definitely do not want to feel rushed. All the 1-year timelines online have been helpful though, because as I checked things off way ahead of time, I've been able to better manage the rest of the plans, and now I'm basically on schedule for what they suggest for a 1-year plan.

I'm having an over two year engagement and we are almost at the one year mark. I have all my vendors booked already and a lot of decor bought. It's going amazing and completely stresss free. I highly recommend it. Just don't wait till the one year mark to start doing stuff because that defeats the purpose

We've had a 2+ year engagement as well. We got the big stuff out of the way and now I'm on the smaller details. It flew by! But one thing at a time to lower the stress level.

We've been engaged 4.5 years now and are only now starting to think properly about planning because of various issues with my FH being out of work. I entered a competition not even hoping to win and have won our venue for Oct 18 so finally things might start to happen! We havnt even confirmed the booking yet and I'm already stressing, how do you stop from trying to do everything at once? I have so many ideas!

Guest list, budget and venue would be where to start.

I'm also having a 2 year engagement. It's been really good for us because we're both so busy and Chicago is very competitive when wedding planning. A lot of places book early. We've booked majority of our major vendors so now we can take our time with the details. I've been able to buy a few things on sale. We're not really stressing about the budget either. We're set to get married next September. So take your time and get everything that you want!
