2 drink tokens ?!?

Kelli, on July 17, 2015 at 8:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 48

My daughter is in Florida with a friend for a wedding on Saturday that has the potential for some good posts. They are getting 2 drink tokens at the reception !?! She said there are a lot of people attending that don't drink so they are hoping to get their tokens LOL. On this forum I have heard of dry weddings and cash bars but not tokens !!

Can she reuse the tokens at Chuck-E-Cheese for arcade games? Just asking.

How awkward. The entire night, people who want more drinks will be rushing tables to ask if they can have the unused drink tokens. And the ones who don't drink, will be annoyed because every 5 minutes someone is asking for their drink tokens. Sounds like more headache than what it's worth. Good luck to the attendees at that wedding :/

Eh. It doesn't bother me. I'll take my two tokens, have some wine and probably give my second token to my husband.

My colleague did this and I thought it was tacky, I mentioned this to my FH and he thought it was a good idea. I almost went into rage mode!

Maybe the wedding has a "gold rush" theme.

(I know you guys like my really bad jokes. Admit it.)

I went to a day time wedding where we had two drink tickets. There was much swapping and bartering for tickets with cake, cash and other items Smiley smile

I have been to weddings like this normally it becomes a cash bar once you use your tokens, its a way to keep within your budget ans till provide some alcohol to your guests

Its kinda the same as having a capped bar... like once the bar bill reaches a certain amount it becomes a cash bar. Ive been to lots of "drink ticket" receptions. Not a big deal to me. It prevents some people from guzzling drink after drink while others only get one free drink before the bar cap is reached. To me its no different than proving a2 bottles of wine on eavh table. But honestly cash bars are quite common here.

I've been to many cash bar weddings in Texas and Louisiana. That's why the token thing doesn't bother me.

That's fairly common where I'm from Smiley atonished We went to a wedding like that (didn't do it at ours), and I honestly didn't even know it was weird. Thanks to WW I have learned to judge people, lol.

Totally tacky. If anything, just do a cash bar and try to work the guests a really good deal on a couple of signature cocktails. I personally dislike cash bars and I'm going with an all-out open bar... But I do feel for people whom can't afford alcohal but still wish to provide it to their guests; There is just no way to do it that's not kind of awkward... but I'd rather pay for a drink than go dry! I say be grateful for what you get. Some of us are not able to pay out a large amount of money.

It's not uncommon. It has been discussed here many times and there are brides who think it's a fabulous idea because it's a compromise between and cash bar and open bar. Umm...no.

Linda, no one here has ever said you have to pay out a large amount of money for your wedding. However, if you CHOOSE to throw an event for 150 people or whatever, you need to be able to properly host them. It's really quite simple.

It sounds like a Christmas party I went to when I worked for a really cheap company. Luckily, it was at a hotel so we all pre-gamed in our rooms.

I have seen this at company parties. Usually what happens is whoever hands out the tickets winds up giving out extras to their friends like some kind of sick popularity contest.
