1st Dress Fitting - Undergarments and Shoes?

Piecesofadream, on January 27, 2014 at 10:27 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

My Maggie Sottero Sydney is in!!!!! I've scheduled my 1st dress fitting.

I'm wondering about undergarments. Am I supposed to have all that I would wear on my wedding day for the fitting? Or should this be the time to figure out exactly what kind I'll need?

Is it okay if I bring shoes the same height that I'm looking for, for the wedding, but not the actual shoes (as I don't have them because I was waiting to see what the ivory actually looked like).

My seamstress told me to bring my shoes. If you don't have them I would bring a shoe with at least the same heel height.

Not sure about undergarments: my dress has a bra and corset built in.

I was told you're supposed to have everything, but I'm getting bra cups sewn in. The seamstress has different styles so I don't really have to worry too much about undergarments. I'd be careful with the shoes just because it might be difficult to later find a shoe you like with that exact heel height. I switched shoe style at the last minute and it made a major difference in how it needed to be altered. I still have to decide if I want some sort of Spanx because I really have to suck in with my dress. If that's a concern, you'd need that before the fitting because that would change your waist.

Bring as much as you can with you to help you decide. I brought a strapless bra to my first fitting and realized that my dress was better without (if I didn't have it with me I wouldn't have known). I reeeeeeeally didn't want to wear spanx all day for my wedding but I brought them with me to see if it made a difference (it didn't), etc etc.

and definitely bring shoes that are the same height if you don't have your actual shoes with you. this is actually the most important part probably but like Brianna said, once you commit to a shoe height you are pretty much stuck.

I need a bra built into mine but going to try the backless bras just in case I prefer that route. Slip that I brought helped a lot, it has an adjustable hoop so heal size is no prob. But DEF bring shoes in the height you would like to have it will make a huge difference.

Yes, bring the shoes you are wearing and any undergarments.

I brought my spanx and shoes that match the height of what I want to wear on my day.

You really should have your undergarments and shoes (at least the same height) for the fitting. What you wear for undergarments can drastically change how your dress fits, and if they alter it for one set of undergarments, and you change those, you could end up needing more alterations later. And if the dress needs any hemming, you will need to have the proper shoe height so they can figure out the hem length.
