I literally have mosquito bites ALL over my arms and legs... my legs will be covered anyway so I don't care a lot about them. I literally have mosquito bites ALL over my arms and legs... my legs will be covered anyway so I don't care a lot about them. But my arms have been beat up all summer, as soon as one goes away at least one more pops up. The dermatologist can't see me until after the wedding. I itch in my sleep and without even realizing it during the day and they turn to scabs and look horrible. Over the counter meds don't help. What should I do? I don't want scabs all over my arms at my wedding. Urgent care is expensive as heck under my insurance. Do I need to suck it up and pay the bill? I don't have a general physician as I moved here recently. What are my options?

16 days is enough time for the wounds/current bites to heal. I'm not sure if you work outside?? I am outside a lot at work myself...get some lightweight long sleeve shirts and wear them! It will prevent any more bites.

I got poison oak on my face last Thursday. I called the dermatologist Monday and calmly explained that I'm getting married Saturday and they squeezed me in immediately.

Just be careful with too much cortisone cream you'll raise your cortisol levels and then you won't be able to sleep. Insomniac bride doesn't seem like a fun alternative.

MissGtoMrsG, I think I will do the same tomorrow. I have never been to a dermatologist before so im hoping they take mercy on me as a new patient.

BTW I have used Deet 40+ before and still get bit. I don't knoe what it is, it's insane.

After Bite works wonders for me. It's OTC.

So far I have tried Cartizone, Cartizone with coolling gel, benadryl (topical and internal), Bactine (just to clean the area), that pink stuff, Chiggerex (it says it's for all big bites) , hydrocortisone cream, Aveeno, After Bite, and some really expensive cream in a white pump bottle that I can't remember the name of...

I'm sucking it up and going to urgent care tomorrow. I have emergency weddinf money in savings, my wedding is paid off already, I'm just gonna use the money.

@Ellaenchanted I called a few days ago and they said that if it is considered sever they can wrote a script for prescription strength something or another. The pharmacist I talked to today said they are probably my best bet and can prescribe something internal to help fight the cause of the itch (my body's immune system fighting off the poison or whatever you call it, I forget his exact words). What other doctor would you see?

OFF has a dry spray that isn't greasy and doesn't smell too bad. You must protect yourself. Mosquitos still carry nasty viruses.

Maybe steroids would help??It's a histamine reaction, so maybe...

Protect your pets, too, If you have any. Heartworms come from mosquitos.

Try what I do for poison ivy. Use alcohol on cotton balls, let that dry, then pat on the PINK calamine lotion, right on the dots. Let it dry. I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable. Smiley sad

I'm also a healthcare provider, can you explain which OTC medications do not work for you so far? A previous post mentioned that urgent care won't add much and I agree. They'll turn around and tell you to do hydrocortisone cream and Benadryl. Please use DEET if you can. In this case I would highly recommend to talk to your doctor but if you don't have access, please continue to make use of your pharmacist. It's our job to help with these problems.

Poison oak and mosquito bites are very different. OTC hydrocortisone cream on bites isn't likely to cause insomnia.........

I think you'll be disappointed tbh but it's up to you!

Also a healthcare provider and I would tell my patients exactly what I already told you. The only thing I can imagine them maybe prescribing you is prednisone or a higher dose steroid cream for the itching. But there's no magic fix. The main thing is to stop scratching. And prevent new ones with lots of bug spray, long sleeves and staying indoors.

I would soak in the tub wirh some oatmeal bath mix to soothe the bites. I would also try and be seen by a doctor and get on a steroid treatment if possible which would help them heal faster. I'm super sensitive and sometimes need that in order for them to go away.

The allergist last year (who I see for dust mites) recommended the one I cabt think of the name of. It worked great last year! I bought a new bottle this year and it's just now working. I thought that bottle was possibly defective and bought another from a different store. Same problem. I think my body has already become immune to it.

Sometimes when I have too many bites I can't stop scratching, I put clear tape or bandaids over the bites so my nails can't scratch the skin and irritate the bite more. It's worth a shot to try covering the bites you already have so they don't scab up from the itching.

@Dani, you'd be surprised. My one friend was using it on her son and just getting it on her finger a few times a day was enough to raise her levels that her doctor didn't understand because you can't even produce that much much.

If she does it every 3 to 4 hours for a week on that many bites it quite possibly could.

I also didn't say it would definitely do it, I said with too much. Very different.
