150 guest with a tight budget

FutureJasmin, on November 26, 2016 at 10:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 66

I'm really tight on my budget because I don't feel the need to overspend on a wedding. Is there anyone else that has a tight budget for their wedding? I've been doing a lot of research to be cost effective and some diy items. I am on a budget of $10,000 for about 150 guest. I'm in need of a reception venue that includes open bar or byob and I want to bring my own catering company. I want a facility that I have to do limited decorating aslo. Helpppppp!!!!!

Define "tight." Members on here have a wide range of budgets. Also, where are you located?

A few things to consider: About half of your budget should go to the reception venue and food. It's in bad taste to self-cater (also can risk food-related illnesses) and have a cash bar. DIY can sometimes end up costing more than just buying it.

We have a tight budget. That's the main reason our max guest count is 50. If you're budget is super tight, I'd suggest shrinking the guest list.

We have 144 invited and our wedding is only going to cost maybe 5,000! Our hall is 600! Look into VFW halls

We also have a tight budget, thus are only having 60 people.

Everyone is on what they perceive as a tight budget, whether it's 2000.00 or 25,000.

The only logical answer is to have a smaller guest list because DIY'ing is not going to save you that much.

We're working on our elopement packages for next year, and even in my area (NYC/NJ) we can do a beautiful little wedding with music, flowers, great food and booze a fab officiant and a photographer for under 4000.00. And 10-20 guests.

Here is the funny thing about guests; once you limit your list to IMMEDIATE family, the rest fall away pretty easily. And everyone understands.

@OP, cut the guest list. Easiest way for us was making it adults only with no exceptions. Then we cut it down further to only inviting people we have spoken to atleast once within a year. I would also recommend skipping bridal parties or keeping it very small. Having a bridal party ups the costs for both sides. You, the bride, are paying for their flowers, gifts, and hair and makeup (if you're requiring them) and those costs adds up. We are doing a lot of diy projects but the biggest expense is the catering and open bar for per person. So cutting 1 person saves us $150.

    @Kayla, self catering?

Another vote for OP cutting the guest list.

@Bee I wanted to ask that same question but I think I already know the answer...either self catering or lots of friendors (or both).

I am in Orlando but I plan on having my wedding in Fort Lauderdale or Miami for the convenience of my family.

If you don't feel the need to overspend on your wedding, then have a smaller wedding.

Food and photography will nearly kill that $10k alone. You seriously need to double that budget or cut the guest list.

Cut the guest list and/or have a longer engagement.

Also, if you're looking for suggestions on venues you may want to include your location.
