$149 for a little boy's tux rental?!?!?

Crystal, on May 11, 2010 at 11:33 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

So we went to the tux shop last night to pick out my FH's tux along with the groomsmen tuxes. I guess I never thought a tux RENTAL could be so expensive! Of course, my FH picked one of the higher end tuxes, which is totally okay, because it's his day too, plus his tux rental was free, we just paid $39 for accessories.

Anyway, the 11-year old junior groomsman's tux rental is the same price as the adult mens! His mom can't pay for the rental, so we said we would. The rental was $189 and then the store gave each groomsman a $40 dicount. But still! $150 bux for a little boy's tux!

I've thought about trying to find a boy's black suit and just rent the vest and tie, but then he won't match, and I don't want him to feel bad because he doesn't have the same tux as the adults! UGH!

Yes I understand our junior groom his tux was the same price but someome at the store suggested that we purchase it instead. So we ended up paying sixty bucks for the entire tux!

I bet you could purchase a boy's tux online for a LOT less than that if you have his measurements.

There is not much difference between an 11 year old and a 20 something year old. I totally see that the price is the same. The tux for my 5 year old nephew was just as expensive, now that is insane. But I agree that you could always look into buying them, that way at least you're paying money for something you can keep.

We went to mens warehouse and had this same problem. My uncle actually pulled my little cousin out of the wedding because he didn't want to pay for the tux rental. They said that we can put my 5 year old stepson in a "suit" vs a tux and that is supposed to be 60 something vs 180. I agree to look online. Good luck!

Just curious, why would you think it would be any cheaper? The rental shop still does the same amount of work measuring and fitting. Sometimes the smaller something is, the more difficult it is to fit, sew and alter. I dont' know if you are having a flower girl, but their dresses aren't always cheaper either, so you may have to be prepared.

Just a word of caution, if you decide to purchase online, be sure to use a reputable vendor. I had a couple purchase tuxes online, and when they got them they looked like paper! They arrived crunched in boxes, and looked like the 8th grade made them as a class project. They looked nothing like the photos, and they thing now the photos may have been just general tux photos they used from the net.

I guess I just thought boys clothes are less expensive then mens clothes so it would be similar with tux rentals LoL guess that was my bad. I'm going to look into buying a tux for him on-line and then just renting the vest and tie (since I have a difficult color to match - "watemelon").
