14 year old nephew i would like to include in the wedding

Michelle, on June 14, 2020 at 10:26 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

Hi all

My nephew is very important to me, and I would like to have in in the wedding. First I was like ring bearer, 2 years ago, but since he is 14 now that’s kind of lame lol. So now I’m thinking he could stand up with me . I only have a MOH at this point, and fiancé has 2 groomsmen. Would it be weird to have him as a “bridesmaid” or should I ask my fiancé to have him as a best man? But then there will be 3 groomsmen and 1 bridesmaid. Also the groomsmen should be people that are close to my fiancé.......not who I want them to be lol. What would it be called if he was a “bridesmaid” Lol

Then what colors do I do for him. The bridesmaid is fuchsia and the grooms side is tan white and sunset orange boutonnières. Would I put my nephew on my side with matching groomsmen white shirts, tan pants, and maybe a matching pink tie to the MOH dress? Or maybe a pink boutonnière instead of orange like the groomsmen? (Fiancé and groomsmen are not wearing ties)

Is there any other way to have him in the wedding? I am just not sure he would even appreciate being in the wedding at his age. I also feel like he is in Jamaica and he probably doesn’t want to spend a bunch of time involved in the wedding day lol. I’m sure he would rather be on the beach 😜

Any thoughts or suggestion would be great!

That’s very sweet that you are close enough to include him! Weddings now days are evolving to “whatever you want” type of events which is great if you want your nephew to stand on your side! Or you could even take a moment in the ceremony where the officiant introduces him and has him read some sort of passage about love/marriage? Just a thought! ☺️

You could definitely have him on your side as a “bridesman” and have him wear what the groomsmen are wearing or maybe a shirt or tie to match your bridesmaid. You could also have him in a different role like helping with a unity ceremony, giving a reading or ushering guests to their seats. I’d prioritise the level of involvement you think he’ll want and go from there.

I agree that this is such an incredibly sweet recognition of your relationship! I'd ask him to be your Man of Honor or a bridesman. He can dress to match the groomsmen and/or to coordinate with your MOH. You might ask him to carry your husband's ring for you and hand it to the officiant or do a reading, etc., if you want. Smiley heart

My brother and his wife weren’t bridesmaids and groomsmen at my wedding. They simply walked in the professional the same way parents do. It was my way of recognizing them but yet not directly having them partake as wedding party members

I think it's fine to make him a ring bearer. Just don't put some cheesy sign on him. Maybe he can walk up with the bridesmaid, put the rings down, and take a seat.

Thanks! I really like that idea. The wedding is not overly traditional so I like the idea of him walking with MOH but sitting afterwards ☺️

At his age he could be an usher.. he could walk the guests to their seats. It's a very important job and he could be dressed in similar colors as the wedding party. 🥰

Since junior bridesmaids are a thing, he can definitely be a junior groomsman!
