13 months to go!!!

Lena, on April 25, 2013 at 6:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I have absolutely nothing done!!

I have a lot of wonderful ideas and a lot of things picked out, but nothing bought or payed off.. Smiley sad

Am I behind or am I behind?

How did you ladies start your budget? Did you have that much put up already or did you pay as you went? I'm so confused and I know a year will fly by! Please help me!

No worries... I only really got into planning about a year out even though we've been engaged for 2.

Start by figuring out how many guests you want and venue pricing/availability- those are the biggest determining factors in the whole thing. After we determined that, my FH and I agreed on an amount that we could both afford and that we were comfortable spending... then I used the budget tool on WW that helped break everything down for me- I adjusted it for the extras I wanted and I took out things we don't really need (for instance... no flower girl or RB so that makes it easier).

You're not THAT behind- I had friends plan an AWESOME wedding in 6 months so you can totally do it...

You are fine! Alot of us just plan super early so its not as much stress as the wedding gets closer. We only have our reception and ceremony space booked and also a photographer! Ive pretty much just been looking at lots of stuff too just to gey a clear image of what i want so i dont change my mind! We set a 10,000 budget and discussed how much we need to put away each month to have that... but we are basically paying for things as we go which i find alot easier.

I wouldn't worry at all. fh and I have had almost a 10 month engagement... I am almost there and just have tiny things left to finish up. If you live in a very highly pop. area you might want to check out venues and different venders. At least you could narrow down what places you like the most and look to see if they are available...and prices. I had no idea what my budget was. Honestly we didn't have much to start off with. If anybody offers to help, figure out what you need the most help with. If not start figuring how much you can set aside each month between now and the wedding. Buy and pay for things as they come and as needed. You don't have to get everything all at once. The WW tool is helpful and it keeps track of what is paid off also. It all does fly by ...but this process should be fun. Have fun with it all!

My parents are paying for my wedding and its real small about 50 people but we put our wedding bands on layaway at zales and been paying off that, our hotel for our honeymoon, and every weekend we go buy a few things here and there that we need...I started in January and I'm getting married in July...my mom said the less I spend the more I get and honestly i would rather have more after the wedding to pay off some stuff and save for a house so...go to a bridal show near your house and they will help out ALOT ...there is actually so much little detail that u don't think about until u start and it becomes alot of work and stress...so try writing a check list and mark it off as u go along and u will have it done In no time!

Well so far I have a venue in mind, a photographer that I like, and a few small details, like a few songs, I want to do a sky lantern ceremony that night, I like the idea of a taco bar buffet for diner as my wedding Is going to be SUPER casual. Small probably 50 people, what would you say is a good starting point for my budget?

Good ideas but def practice with the sky lanterns wayyy before because my fiances brother passed away years ago and on his birthday we sent out alot of them only half got stuck in trees because there was no wind and its really hard to even get them started ...we actually ended up with the cops coming because they were landing in trees and it turned into a big disaster

You missed the very large post about budgets a few days ago- unfortunately no one can really answer that for you- you need to do some research for things in your area first.

You could spend $0-$30,000 on a dress (etc). Are you going to hire a caterer? Talk to them about how much it would cost to do what you want- you really need to get a few quotes first.

Also- get your venue! It's best to figure that out first- it's not too early to talk to people/get quotes/take tours. That will help determine a lot of varying factors.

I've got a venue In mind, supper affordable at $475 and they have an officiant at no extra charge. And I'm planning on catering myself, but like you said I just need to research more

I would get that venue ASAP! You don't want that gone. As long as you are sure about it and really like it...do it!

You are not behind at all! Most vendors don't even require you to pay off until a month before the event date.

I have a lil' more time that you but alas I hardly have anything done either so, you're not alone. At least I can say when my daughter get's home in 2 wks. we're going dress shopping for the BM's. She's coming in from Germany & won't be back in the states til next year so I've got to grab this opportunity as it comes (she's in the Army)
