11 yr old ring bearer? or make him a junior groomsmen?

Shana, on February 16, 2012 at 10:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Ok I have a 9 year old nephew who by the time I get married will be 11... It's a MUST that he's in the wedding ( We are super close). He was there when I got engaged and already calls FH uncle(He's been calling him uncle for years now). He asked that night if he could be my ring bearer? Do you think he's too old? Should I make him a junior groomsmen? Or would it not look to weird to have him be my ring bearer? Opinions?

That's really sweet that you're so close with him and he wants to be part of your wedding!

Personally....I've never seen a ringbearer that old. That doesn't mean it would be weird, I've just never seen it. I would be tempted to make him a junior GM, b/c he's going to grow up a lot between now and then. That way he gets to feel a little more mature. But I think it's really up to you guys.

He could be called "The Master of Rings". I saw that on a wedding show where the child was older than the usual ring bearer.

I think "Master of Rings" is awesome!! Smiley smile

And you could let the choice be his. Once it gets a little closer to the wedding, since it is still pretty far away, he may still want to be the ring bearer or he may want to be a junior groomsman, depending what is "cool" to him. So you could let him make the call when it gets closer. Smiley smile

I should have mentioned that. Nina is actually the one who insisted on being called flower girl! That's why she's my precious perfect princess!

My son is 9 and he was a jr groomsman. He had the option and absolutely did not want to be a ring bearer. He was happy to stand up like a bigger guy and strut in his tux
