10k next to 14k Rose Gold? Pics please!

aCursiveLine, on September 2, 2016 at 1:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Help! I'm hoping some WW brides have both 10k and 14k rose gold in their jewelry collection and could show me how they look next to each other- Google only gave me 14k vs 18k comparisons!

My engagement ring is 14k rose gold, and my fiance's wedding band is rose gold in the center with white gold on the outside- I found a gorgeous ring guard to help incorporate the white gold into my wedding band, but it's a bit out of our budget in 14k. I'm wondering if I could get away with the 10k version without a noticeable color difference between the 10k rose gold accents on the guard and the 14k rose gold band on my e-ring! Any side-by-side pics, fellow rose gold lovers?

It's not exactly what you're seeking but close-ish. Platinum e-ring and rose gold band. Stunning together!

10k rose gold may appear a bit more copper toned. it all comes down to the mixture of metals though. I would think that you could get away with 10k rose gold ring guard. is there a way for you to try it on? or if you're ordering online is there a way for you to send it back if it isn't what you want?

The rose gold in your picture definitely looks more copper than the "pink" I traditionally get from other rose gold jewelry. Personally, I'm not a fan of rose gold because I think it is hugely trendy right now/lately and I feel like it will eventually go out of style. I would never want a wedding band/e-ring in rose gold for that exact reason. However, that being said, I have no problem with mixing metals. I think the picture you posted looks beautiful!

@NightOwl- the rings are returnable, there's just a really great sale on Two Birch (20% off for Labor Day, plus a 10% off coupon code) and if I'm going to end up with the 14k ring anyway, I'd like to take advantage of the sale!

@Katie K.- in my experience, rose gold colors in online 'photos' (either composite images or super edited) aren't accurate at all- for example, the ring I tried on at Kay this week looks nothing like the photo online (attached). I'm not basing anything on the color of the rose gold in the photos online, I'm hoping to see actual pics of the two next two each other so I can see what it looks like in real life!

As I said in my original post, I already have a rose gold engagement ring- I'm really not looking for input on whether or not to get rose gold since I already have it... comments about how trendy it is aren't very helpful. The rose gold my ring is made with looks like a warm yellow gold- not a loud and fake pink. To me, it's more neutral than a yellow gold ring, and it's exactly what I wanted.

I have two 18k rose gold rings and even they aren't a 100% perfect match if you look reaaaallly closely. The alloy blend doesn't always match perfectly.

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but my ring is 10k.

ETA: My gold looks much more pink than any other rose gold I've seen.

@Jakki P. - that's actually really helpful, because you're right, that's a lot more pink than my ring!

Yeah, I'm not sure if it is the karats or if it is the ring itself, but it's super rosy.

Thank you! I love it! It's much smaller than I would have liked but when I tried it on in the store I had to have it! I love the blue in yours. I actually considered something really similar Smiley smile

Totally getting off topic now, but have you figured out what type of band you're going to wear with it?

I think we are going to end up having one made. I really really wanted to get a set so that they would fit together with no awkward gaps, but this ring wasn't part of a set. So we are probably just going to have one made so I can avoid that. I'm way too OCD for anything else. We are actually thinking of putting a bigger stone in the center, too. Do you think you're going to do the white gold band?

I'll probably either do a rose gold band or a two-tone white and rose ring guard/enhancer. Since the white gold is symmetrically on both sides of FH's band, it only makes sense to take that route if I'm adding white gold for the sake of matching!

I also really like how wearing a ring guard/enhancer holds my ring in place, centered on my finger- my ring is always twisting to the side or upside down (knuckles are bigger than where the ring actually sits, so rings are always "too big" while worn). Haven't decided, but want to decide soon with all the Labor Day sales!

Oh yes! We just got a coupon from Kay in the mail too. I think it is like 30%. I like the two-tone idea. I think it makes everything look a lot more vibrant. Also, it will match which I think is cute as hell. I wish my FH would do that.

Rosegold varies sooooo much! I have a rose and white gold ring and a rose gold wedding band (thinking of ordering a second for a killer stack!), they're slightly different in color, but when my ering is polished it should look the same. I say, order it and see how it looks! Then return if it's not up to snuff!

ETA: I always have to laugh when people are like "I would never get that" when you already have it! Cool story, that helps! We all have different tastes.

It's going to be different. Unless you get everything in the same ratio from the same jeweler, you're likely to have the potential for significant differences between even the same ratio metals (14k from one jeweler versus 14k from another). This is because they all use different filler metals in addition to the copper and gold, and that affects the final color outcome.

Without seeing it together, theres no way to know how obvious the difference will be.

@Cursive, I promise I wasn't trying to be snarky in the slightest. I should have kept my opinion about "trendiness" to myself! My apologies and best of luck to you.

My dad is a jeweler and like someone already said. The golds will never 100% match. Most of the time you can't even tell. I think the lower karat rose should look just fine! As far as gold trends go. Rose gold was popular in the 50's, then was replaced by yellow, and then white. I truly think it's nice to see color coming back in style!
