Do you have your license yet? If not you will need to decide what your new name will be, if you change it at all. There are spots for Applicant #1 and Applicant #2, names before and names after. You only need you and groom to apply for license, it is good for six months.

At the wedding, your officiant will sign it, along with you and groom and two witnesses. Your officiant will have five days to get it in, I mailed it myself on the way out Saturday, even with the Columbus Day holiday I had the sealed copy back in ten days. You only get ONE copy of the license with the raised seal so guard it with your life, lol!

We signed at the reception just because we did it that way - I had never been to a wedding where people signed at the ceremony but hey - do what you want!!

    Good luck!!

Thank you for the additional info!!! We've been at a bit of a loss when it came to the paperwork side of things, I desperately needed this info for peace of mind. I do plan to change my last name, even though I've read it's a bit of a pain lol. Honestly we've never been to a wedding where the couple signed during the ceremony either, but it seemed like a good fit for us in place of a unity ceremony! We're doing it after the vows and rings, but before the pronouncement and kiss Smiley smile

Changing your name is not that big of a pain, truthfully - the DMV was about ten minutes and if you are willing to mail the official docs to the social security office, you can get your new SS card in about two weeks. I did as the wait is painfully long - and I mailed in my sealed divorce decree AND my only marriage license with the raised seal! I got it all back ASAP though, card came about about two weeks later.

    Best wishes, Anna!!
