100% up front for dress? What was your salon's payment plan?

Private_User804, on March 8, 2016 at 8:50 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 36

The "best" salon in my city has been there for several decades and is large and successful. It has hundreds of rave reviews. But when I talked to them about ordering a dress, they told me it would be 100% payment up front, that they couldn't order it for me until I had paid the dress price plus shipping cost in full. They also said the designer "wouldn't let them" budge on price.

Is this unusual? Several other salons have wanted 50% down, 50% on delivery, and I kno some of you bargained your dress price down. I'm concerned this need for 100% up front may mean something is hinky at this place - but it's been there for ages and everyone says it's the best!

We had the option but paid for it 100% when we ordered it. We could've put 50% down but it was just easier to pay it all. I wouldn't be concerned!

Ours was paid in full before they order! I got it 18 months ahead of time so I could have put 1/2 down and paid the other 1/2 later, but they would not have ordered until paid in full. Because often they may make dresses to your measurements or make it to order, so they can't just return it and have another girl buy it.

We had to either pay upfront or apply for the store credit card which I think gave a year to pay off the purchase interest-free.

My salon required 100% up front. Nothing hinky. Just prevents them from being screwed over if they order the dress and you back out. Most high end salons with reasonably-priced gowns prefer this route, especially if they don't have a large "off the rack" selection.

I went to a smaller salon in the valley and I paid 100% when I ordered it. The alterations will be paid once it starts but that's different Smiley smile I don't think it's uncommon.

I had to pay 50% when I ordered and the rest when I picked it up. I was told it would be about 3-5 months so I though I had time to save.....haha, nope, it came in one month! Apparently I ordered a dress from the Alfred Angelo "express" line.

I had to pay 100% up front and there was no price negotiation other than a 10% discount for ordering the same day

I had to pay 50% before ordering and I have to pay 50% when it arrives.

I did talk to my salon about pricing I saw at other salons and they price matched for me (knocked off $500).

If you are uncomfortable with the salon, you can go to another salon that carries that designer (maybe not that particular dress) and order through them. For example, if they are a Maggie Sottero retailer, they should be able to order Maggie Sottero gowns even if they don't carry samples.

My salon requires 70% down before they'll order it, and the remaining balance before they give it to you.

My salon require 50% to order and the last 50% by the time the dress comes in.

My mom paid the 50% when we ordered it and I've been making payments to have it paid off by the time I pick it up. My mom doesn't know I'm paying for half which I hope will be a nice surprise.

Mine was 50% at time of order, 50% when the dress came in before any alterations were made. I got a little bit of a discount because they told me it was in my budget when I tried it on/fell in love and then it ended up being a few hundred over, but I know from other brides who have gotten their dresses there that that was an atypical situation. Only a handful of stores in the US carry my designer (Spose di Gio), so going elsewhere to order the same dress wasn't an option.

I went to a newer (small) salon, I just needed a down payment. I have to have at least 50% down before they will order the dress and it has to be paid in full by July 14th 2017. I put 200 down, they didn't even bat an eyelash.

Mine required 50% down and 50% within 15 days of them receiving the dress.
