Say YES to the Lafayette!
We had the wedding of our dreams at our favorite San Diego landmark. From our first meeting with Lisa the INCREDIBLE wedding coordinator to our first day waking up married, we felt nothing but spoiled. (Let me also add that our wedding was exponentially more affordable than any other venue's events.)
The food was DELICIOUS. (The chef takes great pride in his work, and the presentation and flavors and textures are on point!) The staff were warm and friendly and so happy for us. The space was elegant. The Lafayette really succeeds in walking this line between being very cool and hip and also being extremely warm and friendly. Our friends and family stayed at the hotel and loved it. Our room was perfect, and we were spoiled with congratulations/surprises. I wish we could go back and do it again every year.... -

Look no further
Our wedding at The Lafayette was magical. It’s a beautiful yet affordable venue. Our coordinator, Lisa is hands down the most amazing, professional, efficient & meticulous planner. Better yet, she is so personable & fun to be around. We feel extremely lucky to have found. Lisa who made our wedding so perfect. We had only a month to plan & Lisa executed the ceremony & lunch perfectly. We did not have to worry about anything because the moment we think about something, it's already taken care of. She also kept us on track throughout the planning process & also gave helpful opinions & suggestions.
Additionally, all of the staff were very attentive, helpful & welcoming.
We cannot be thankful enough for Lisa & the rest of the hotel staff. We would like for all the couples to have the greatest experience that we both had! -

Amazing wedding venue!
We were so fortunate to have our wedding at The Lafayette!
Like many couples, we were affected by the pandemic. We had originally planned to have our wedding in 2020. We signed an agreement with the Lafayette in 2019. When the pandemic took over, we were forced to reschedule. We had to reschedule multiple times. The Lafayette worked with us the entire time. They stayed in contact with us the whole time.
We were fortunate to set a final date and got married!
The hotel was such a great space for all of our wedding wants and needs. The conservancy is a beautiful ceremony space. It’s very picturesque. The courtyard, where we had our cocktail hour, was set up nicely. The reception hall had ample space for our guests. The food was really tasty. The appetizers were tasty and plentiful along with the dinner buffet. Everyone had their fill of food and drinks. Lastly, the hotel offers several great spaces to take pictures. The hotel has great style.
The hotel accommodations were great! We loved our room. We had several guests stay at the hotel. We were able to book a block of rooms and saved our guests some money.
Lisa and the team at the Lafayette did such an amazing job! Lisa answered all of our questions. She was very prompt and responsive. We always felt that we were in good hands. The front desk staff, the hotel staff, the servers and to the event staff, treated us well. We couldn’t have asked for anything better!
Choosing the Lafayette for our wedding was a great choice! You should definitely consider them for your wedding. You won’t be disappointed! -

Best Hotel and staff EVER!
Lafayette Staff Members are the absolute BEST!!! We cannot express how grateful we are for how welcoming each staff member throughout the hotel made us, our family, and friends feel so welcome and comfortable during our stay. It truly made it difficult to say goodbye.
Shoutouts to Lisa Kanemori, Mialani, Joseph Taumua, Krystal, Kane, Cass, Shirley, Ed and the entire support staff working this past weekend.
We met with Lisa back in July 2019 to make wedding/reception arrangements at the hotel which was originally set for October 2020. The new hotel owners were kind enough to allow us to postpone for a year due to the pandemic. It has been an unexpected 2 year process that Lisa made sure to keep in constant communication with us to ensure everything was to go as planned. She is very organized and extremely thorough leaving us with little to no questions during the entire experience. Lisa's knowledge of the wedding/reception process was crucial in making everything smooth and effortless.
Mialani was always a ray of sunshine whether it was via emails or in person.
Joseph's welcoming demeanor and kind words were like a warm hug.
Krystal was always more than willing to help out for anything we requested.
Cass made sure everything for our reception and ceremony was set up with professional perfection. Thank you for allowing our family and friends set up and access the room when needed.
Shirley (Aka Auntie Shirley) made sure my wife and I were well fed throughout the evening.
Hope 46 restaurant: Heather, Amy were always attentive. The food provided for our reception received a plethora of kudos from all of our guests. The Halibut Filet constantly received rave reviews. Oh and the beans at breakfast to die for! Our families wanted to take the entire pot home.
The hospitality the hotel staff extended to us and to all of our family and friends was above and beyond anything anyone of us have experienced anywhere else, including from other five star hotels.
Our family, friends, including me and my wife, will definitely be back!
Keep rocking' it! Truly appreciate all the love and care the Lafayette Hotel team extended to our family and friends. If it were up to us, raises for all who worked this weekend!-

Wedding and Baby Shower
We love Lafayette. We had our wedding here 2019. The team, venue, and food were amazing. The process was pretty easy and they’re super flexible. So much was included in their packages for the most part I feel like I just has to show up. 2020 we had our baby shower a month before the pandemic. Once again they work with our budget and allowed us the freedom to make the shower what we want. Lafayette will always have a special place in our heart. -

Leap Day Wedding
Lisa, Kara and team were absolutely fantastic! Aside from being incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful they were extremely professional with all the details. Their patience and genuine care for us was overwhelming during such a busy and hectic time for us. We wouldn't have changed any part of our special day and thanks to the this team and the Lafayette family we had a beautiful wedding. If you have not yet been inside this gorgeous venue I highly recommend doing so. It is unique and charming and our family loved it! We feel so lucky to have had so many people we love share this moment in a place with so much history. Thank you for being a part of our day of love 💕 -

We had a great overall experience. Lisa and Tawn Lee were extremely welcoming and helpful!
We got married here in September amidst the state’s strict COVID regulations which made it a bit different then we had planned but Lisa and Tawn Lee made sure to help us in any way possible so that our day would still turn out perfect! We were able to have a beautiful ceremony in the conservatory and it was nothing short of magical! After the ceremony we took the most beautiful photos in front of the hotel with the brick and pillars and it gave such a classic and romantic feel to our photos. -

Our wedding was perfect!
The Lafayette was the most beautiful and perfect venue we could have asked for. We didn't have a specific aesthetic laid out for our wedding, so when we found the Lafayette we loved the idea of building around the beautiful space. There's already so much personality within the walls of the hotel that it didn't need a ton of work from us! Lisa was amazing to work with during the almost 1.5 year planning process. She was quick to answer any questions and was always helpful in filling any request we had. As we got closer to the wedding we also worked with Gillian who was just as upbeat and hardworking! They both helped our wedding to run so smoothly. We took over multiple parts of the hotel for the wedding, cocktail hour, and reception, as well as many rooms for our guests. We got so many compliments from our friends and family staying there! Then the weekend of the wedding we used the complimentary wedding suite as our getting ready room and had a TON of space. Overall it made for a beautiful wedding we will never forget. -

You cannot go wrong with The Lafayette!
The Lafayette hotel was the absolute BEST for our wedding - from start to finish. We booked our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception there, and it was perfect!
From the start, we fell in love with the vintage charm of the property. It's a time warp to a cozy, warm, classic time in the 40s when the hotel was in its prime. My husband and I grew up in southern California, but we aren't "beach wedding" people - we are as quirky and unique together as this venue, so it really sold itself.
But then there are the people that make it EVEN BETTER. Lisa Kanemori is the best. Period. She's smart, kind, flexible, and it's clear from the moment you speak to her that she just wants what you want: a great party that makes you and your guests happy! She walked us through all the details, answered a billion emails with random questions, held our hands through all the choices and decisions that come with a decent sized wedding like ours, and she was a pleasure to work with the entire year+ that we spent planning.
The rest of the staff was wonderful too - the catering coordinator, Gillian, was also very helpful and stepped in anytime Lisa was unavailable. They are the dream team! :)
Then there was the fooooood! Amazing. Try anything on that tasting menu that sounds delicious, and good luck making choices! It's all so great, and the chef is VERY accommodating and helpful. He just wants to make sure you enjoy the food, and is happy to make changes as needed (although we loved everything as-is).
Our wedding was perfect. A big part of that was this venue choice. Go check them out - you will be so glad you did! -

Brunch and Bubbly en Blanc Bridal Shower
Wow, just wow! I hosted my best friend's bridal shower at The Lafayette Hotel and it was nothing short of amazing. We had a Brunch and Bubbly en Blanc theme (brunch and champagne is a favorite of our bride.) We chose all white linens/decor and all our guests wore white. Lisa, the Catering Sales Manager was so helpful in setting up all the details leading up to our event. She was very accommodating and suggested an indoor event with the unpredictable weather in November. On the day of, I met Gillian, the Catering Coordinator and she was also great. The event ran smoothly and the food was delicious! We want to give a special thank you to Banquet Staff, Cass. She was attentive in our needs and made sure that we always had champagne bottles on deck. Thank you Lafayette Hotel staff for helping us shower our bride! We would definitely host another event here! -

April Wedding
Our wedding at The Lafayette Hotel, Swim Club & Bungalows was absolutely wonderful and everything we had imagined. All of the staff at the hotel were excellent and very accommodating to us and our guests.
The hotel had a lot of variety of kinds of hotel rooms for our guests to choose from which was great as we had a lot of guests from out of country. My family rented a bungalow which had 3 bedrooms two bathrooms, kitchen, living room and dinning room. It had plenty of room and was a great spot for the bridal party to get ready the day of. We also had the penthouse suite for the guys to get ready in.
Lisa, our wedding coordinator at the Lafayette, was excellent! She was always very patient and answered any questions we had very quickly. In the few days leading up to the wedding we had some last minute schedule changes to which Lisa was very gracious and accommodating. Lisa always kept us very informed and did whatever she could to make our day perfect
The food the day of was delicious! The ceremony space was beautiful and had lots of light. There are also lots of pretty and unique places to take pictures at the hotel.
All in all it was a great day and the Lafayette Hotel was a great spot to have our wedding! -

Lafayette Hotel Fall Wedding
The hotel was beautiful with an old hollywood vibe! All of our guests loved relaxing at the pool area in the days leading up to the wedding. The Mississippi Ballroom was a perfect location for our reception. Plenty of room for our guests to move about and dance. Our sit down dinner food was tasty. We used the clamshell to display our wedding cake and groom’s cake. It was nice to have all of our guests in one spot since this was a destination wedding. My family rented a bungalow which was wonderful to have the space to store all the wedding decor and have a space for the groomsmen get ready in. We also rented the penthouse the night before the wedding for all of the girls to get ready in the morning of. It was great for pictures! And the food at the Hope 46 restaurant was delicious! We had our bridesmaids luncheon there the day before the wedding. Everything in one location was very convenient since we were from out of town. This was such a great place for a destination wedding!-

Threw our Welcome Party/Rehearsal Dinner and Day After Brunch at the Lafayette!
We worked with Kara Elkins to host our Welcome Party/Rehearsal Dinner the night before our San Diego Zoo wedding, as well as the Day After Brunch. Kara was responsive and easy to work with. We met in person for the initial tour, and then did everything by e-mail afterwards. She always offered to speak on the phone if I wanted as well.
For the Welcome Party we had the Old Town Buffet option and the food was great. In particular, the skirt steak was amazing, people kept going back for seconds and thirds. Service and bartenders were top notch as well. For example, my 12 year old cousin has a peanut allergy and asked if any of the desserts were safe for him to eat. One of the servers went to find out, but returned and told me she was unsure because the cakes were delivered from somewhere else. However, she asked the kitchen to make my cousin a dessert he could eat and brought it out to him! So nice and sweet and just going that extra mile.
We had the Sunrise Brunch Buffet on Sunday, which is traditional breakfast food but was delicious as well (perfectly crispy bacon!).
For both events we used the Conservatory area which is really pretty. They opened up the outdoor patio for us to use during the party which has a lovely view of the pool. It was easy and convenient to plan because set up, linens, chairs, tables, etc. are all included so we didn't have to worry about any of the extras. After choosing the food we basically showed up and had a wonderful time with all our guests.
We also rented the bridal get ready suite the day of the wedding to get makeup and hair done. It is well lit and has AC, as well as extra seating for us to hang out and have girl time (at one point we had the makeup artist + 2 assistants, me, 7 bridesmaids, and 2 moms in there). They also brought orange juice in for us (we could've had mimosas but declined as we'd all been drinking too much the night before, haha).
We stayed there for our wedding weekend as well, as did most of our out of town guests. We booked the larger suite for ourselves so the groomsmen could get ready there, and that worked out well. Our guests loved the hotel, it is historic and has an old timey boutique feel that is unique. Kara left us a card with some chocolate and wine when we got back after our wedding, that was a nice touch.
Overall, highly recommend the Lafayette, our wedding weekend went perfectly and all our guests had a wonderful experience. -

It was a spectacular experience that exceeded our expectations! We are most grateful to Bill and his staff for making our special day so very wonderful! Please consider The Lafayette for an event! Our recent wedding was absolutely amazing. Taylor was very helpful and accommodating throughout the whole process, she made sure that we were well taken care of and made the lead up to the big day go as smoothly as possible. The venue itself is absolutely stunning, so wonderful for photos. Lastly. the food was outstanding. I had so many compliments from our guests that it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding. I would definitely recommend this venue to others. -

We live in NYC and decided to have our wedding in San Diego because I am originally from there AND, from our research, it seemed to be a city we could host our wedding and stay within our budget. Plus, who doesn't want to visit San Diego in December?!
Both my now husband and I found the Lafayette in our initial searches and were immediately drawn to the eclectic style of the hotel and the affordability. Taylor from the start was incredible. Planning a wedding from across the country has its challenges but with Taylor on the other end, I found it to be pretty easy without many obstacles and enjoyable. Her associate Nick was also incredibly helpful.
At least half of our guests flew in from NYC and immediately fell in love with the hotel. The food was outstanding; the ceremony was in the conservatory and could not have been more perfect; so many photo opportunities at the hotel and the surrounding area. The cocktail hour and reception were both in the Mississippi Ballroom and at the end of it all, we were told it was the best wedding our friends had ever been to.
It is a pleasure to write a recommendation for the hotel, Taylor and the entire staff. We can't wait to go back to visit and celebrate future anniversaries. -

Taylor Nestra and Nick Sanders were amazing to work with while planning our wedding. They patiently answered our questions, were gracious with their time and always helpful! The venue is a gem! Over 70 percent of our guests traveled for this wedding and they of those traveling, most of our guests stayed at the Lafayette. It's a great alternative to the stuffy hotels downtown and it's just gorgeous! -

We had an amazing experience for our wedding at the Lafayette! Our wedding had the perfect backdrop, which made for an amazing experience and great pictures. Our guests were all very impressed with the venue and the customer service in every department. Taylor was very responsive, helpful and great to work with through the whole process. The Lafayette was a FANTASTIC venue for a glam, classic wedding reception! Tina was incredibly helpful throughout the entire planning process, especially when it came to sticking to our budget. We wanted to do an open bar on a budget, so she suggested the option of pre-purchasing kegs of beer and bottles of wine, which helped us save a ton of money. She was also very flexible with other elements of the reception "package" we purchased, which enabled us to cut costs in the areas we wanted to. The Mississippi Room was absolutely beautiful, and we ended up hiring a live band, which sounded and looked amazing with the vintage clamshell on the stage there. The value for the money we got at the Lafayette was amazing--I did a lot of research in advance and if was the best deal we found in San Diego. I was a little bit wary at first about using the on-site catering; however, after the taste test, I was completely sold on the food provided by the Lafayette (you can also bring in outside catering as well; it's just more of a hassle). Our guests commented on how much they enjoyed the food, also. Coupled with the vintage/glam atmosphere of the Mississippi Room and having Tina onsite for the entire event, I can't recommend the Lafayette highly enough. -

This was the perfect spot for our event. Tina made sure that all our needs were met, and had no problem working with us on the menu so that we got exactly what we wanted and stilled stayed within our budget. Our guests enjoyed staying in the hotel, and it was fun meeting each other on the terrace for the complimentary breakfast tne next morning. For a unique and unforgettable experience, i highly recommend the Lafayette Hotel. -

Tina, the catering manager, was great to work with. We live in the Phoenix area and got married in San Diego, so we had to do most of our wedding planning long distance. Tina was extremely professional and flexible with our needs. She emailed us items if needed and was responsive to phone messages. She set aside a block of time for us to meet in person on a busy weekend for her, but since we would be in town at that time she made time for us. She was also understanding with some last minute changes we needed to make to our menu and was very helpful with the menu. The food was FANTASTIC and the bar service was excellent -- once Tina saw our beach themed decorations, she added some of her own touches that really rounded out the whole experience. And the rest of the hotel staff was great -- letting our guests check in early and allowing guests to switch rooms if their original rooms didn't work out, without any hassle whatsoever. After the reception, the hotel staff helped us carry our gifts to our room and boxed up the rest of our cake for us. The bonus for us was a cancellation in the large ballroom, so Tina moved our reception to that room at no additional cost to us. I heard horror stories from other brides regarding their receptions, and ours was smooth sailing through the whole process. I wouldn't change a thing about our reception! -

Perfect place for our wedding
This hotel is so amazing! They have the coolest decor and it’s all very retro which I love! It was the perfect spot for our small wedding of 50. I went back and forth with our event planner Kara via email mostly and she always got back to me, but sometimes it was a bit delayed (usually a few days later). She was fantastic and made sure everything was where it was supposed to be and that we got the wedding started on time. Me and my husband stayed at the hotel the night of our wedding and they upgraded us into one of the suites! It was soooo amazing! Also - we had a brunch reception and the food was freaking amazing!!! All our guests loved it and were so happy with the buffet options! Thank you Kara and Lafayette crew!-

Surprisingly my husband found this venue driving passed it one day!! From the moment we took the tour we knew this was the perfect place to have our wedding at. We booked in advance about a year out! For us it was very hip, very modern yet elegant and has history to it we found interesting and raved about it to our guests. The ambiance from front of the hotel, walking into it, to the pool area outside and banquet area where we had the reception was absolutely gorgeous and met our expectations! The space just fit our style and what we envisioned. We got married in summer of June 2018! The weather was a little overcast, warm but not summer hot. We had our wedding inside the Conservatory area which to be honest was just the slight disappointment, as during the ceremony the entire crowd and my bridal party were sweating bullets. Not sure if this was typical or the AC just was not working high enough that day. I pointed this out to my catering sales manager and she immediately worked with me in what I was asking to compensate for an important part of the wedding I wished went a lot better. Other than this I had not other issues.
For the reception we booked the Mississippi Ballroom which was more than enough space for the 80 people we invited. Very spacious with an upper level where we did buffet style dinner vs. sit down. I had my photobooth and cake area set in the same space and it was not an issue. Even had enough room to setup small cocktail tables and their small white couch for guests to lounge. THE FOOD SELECTION WE CHOSE WAS NOT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! Our guest could not stop saying how delicious it was and how they went for another round. I couldn't have been more happy! The entire staff did a fantastic job and the customer service was beyond my expectation. They definitely will work with you and are flexible to ensure that you have the best wedding day ever!!!!!

Lafayette Hotel is a true historical gem!
We initially chose this place because of the picturesque architecture and the Vintage Hollywood Glam decor, but they were also helpful with providing tables, linens, dinnerware, furniture, catering, vendor recommendations, and hotel room. We had a pleasant experience with the food tasting there, too. Huge varieties of dishes but they organize it in a way that you can choose a package and customize them. H'ordeuvres can be tray-passed or displayed. Our catering manager Taylor N. was very professional and responsive. Throughout the wedding planning, she was very helpful with giving me some options in order to work within the budget, too.
The day of the wedding was a breeze. The presidential suite was big enough for the bridal party to comfortably hang out, our view faced the pool and we saw the guests lounging by the poolside with their drinks. We ordered the brioche breakfast sandwich while we were getting ready and it was delicious!! The ceremony site was beautiful, we were facing the veranda with the pool view and the hotel can also provide the arch and some decors too. For the reception, we chose the buffet style, but the catering staff brought us the food and drinks so we don't have to leave the sweetheart table. I thought that was thoughtful (had time to eat without the hassle of being stopped on the way to the buffet). I particularly loved the carpet of the Mississippi room, there's no fear of your reception looking bare and boring in that room! The mingle area is raised higher than the dining area which is a nice differentiation, and Taylor was able to give us low tables and chair for the patio too.
Even though I live in SF and didn't have the chance to visit the venue as often as I wanted to, the planning went very smoothly with help from the Lafayette Hotel team. The wedding turned out gorgeously, and our guests were very happy :) Thank you Lafayette Hotel! -

The Lafayette was the first and only place we visited when trying to find a venue. We loved that it was in the neighborhood where we live, and it was a great venue to have everything in one. We did our ceremony and reception there, and it was the hotel where guests stayed. Having everything together really made the process easy. The coordinator Julia was great to work with-- her calm presence throughout the planning process helped make it all easy. The food was excellent, and the whole night was amazing. -

Thanks to Tina and her staff at the Lafayette Hotel it was truly the best day of our lives. All of our out of town guests loved staying in the rooms by the pool. The entire hotel staff went out of their way to ensure all guests needs were met. The Mississippi Ballroom was fantastic for our reception. The room was beautifully set up for our event, everything was in it's place just like we requested; The service of all staff was top notch! And the food served during our reception was delicious. Our guests are still telling us that it was the best wedding they have ever attended, the music, the fun, and the food was beyond all expectations. Tina led the way, she was calm, professional and she personally oversaw every aspect to ensure 100% satisfaction. I cannot imagine what the Lafayette woudl do without her. And we could not imagine having had our wedding in any other location. It was a very special location and added to a wonderful day. Thank you. -

Overall we had a really great experience with the Lafayette!
It's such a gorgeous venue and the value of using their space and catering (the food was absolutely incredible btw!) made it an easy choice for us when we were shopping around. There's so much personality!
Overall we had decent communication, but a few little flubs and instances where we really had to follow up with the staff- since we had both Nick & Taylor helping I think there were a few gaps in communication but ultimately it got sorted.
We also had some issues with some of our guests who had reserved rooms on our room blocks- one of which wound up having to get switched to a hotel a mile or two away. They comped the room, so from a customer service aspect at least they made amends, but it seemed like in general there were some issues with organization... I think perhaps this is a venue that is growing and still getting its legs underneath it (perhaps not used to the scale of the bookings/events they've been receiving lately?)
But overall, I would definitely recommend (seriously, just the history and architecture... melt!), just make sure you are on top of your organization, get things in writing, and follow up to ensure things that need to get booked, noted, or handled are being taken care of. Our guests loved the venue and being able to stay the night at the hotel after the big party was done was a definite plus for them. No regrets on booking here <3 -

We had our reception in the Mississippi Ballroom. It was beautiful, we instantly fell in love with the hotel and the ballroom!
We began our planning with Tina, and a few weeks before our wedding she left to start a new job, which really worried me, but her replacement, McKenna, was wonderful! Everything ran smoothly, we did not have one issue the whole night! We chose an option to use the hotel's staff, table, linens, and dishes and had food delivered because it fit our budget much better. They were wonderful to work with, the planning process was simple. And every email I sent was replied to within a couple of hours.
I have received so many compliments about how wonderful and beautiful my reception was. The ambiance of the hotel is just perfect! -

I found the value to be exceptional really good wedding package. The event coordinator seemed a little taken aback i am not sire if it was my assertiveness or same sex union. I would hope not the latter since it is san Diego and fairly common. Overall it was a nice experience. Their bar and restaraunt could use better customer service as it took awhile for them to get food out while doning there day nefore but as far as wedding in otself everything went well. -

The Lafayette is a gorgeous, classic venue with an amazing location in central San Diego if you have lots of out of town guests staying for your wedding. We enjoyed the planning process, and loved our food tasting, multiple meetings with the hotel coordinators, however during our year between booking the hotel and our actual wedding date, we had a great experience up until about a month before our wedding. There was a large event happening at the hotel that we specifically asked in advanced to make sure our date was NOT on the same day of this event, and about 3 weeks before our wedding I found out via social media that this event was, in fact, happening on our wedding day. The hotel ended up covering a couple items from our overall tab, however I never felt like in the end anyone took ownership for the oversight on their part. There were also several changes in staff within the 1-2 months before our wedding, so both of our points of contact ended up leaving their positions at the hotel. Overall, we enjoyed our wedding at The Lafayette, but there was a lot of added stress and worry from these changes.-

Make sure go over all the details and keep good notes for yourself. Also get everything in writing. We were told they could accommodate our bar request and then 2 days before the wedding were told they couldn't. Luckily, I had this in writing so they were able to help me. Make sure you hire a day of coordinator. We had multiple sets of wedding crashers which the hotel did not seem to be aware of our do anything about. My day-of-coordinator took care of them though. There was also an issue with our open bar. Our guest were being charged for drinks for the first hour of our reception when they were not supposed to. I had to literally get up from my table and talk to a bartender to get this resolved. Looking back, I probably would have went with a different hotel had I known about these incidents. -

I just had my lovely wedding at the Lafayette, the venue is beautiful and the food was delicious! My complaints are about the wedding planner Jeanene; first off she is contracted as the planner there so she is not on site very often which made things difficult when trying to get a hold of her/setting plans. Two times we met with her she had just come from the golf course and was dressed in weird golf clothes, I called her two other times to find out she was golfing and could not confirm my plans/answer my questions due to being out of her office. So at first she seems really nice and gives us hugs each time we meet, but then she starts eating off of our plates at the tasting (she works there couldn't she have asked the chef to make her another plate at another time?).Then as the date gets closer (1 week out) she starts hassling me for numbers/decisions when I had been trying to ask her about it a week or two previous when I had time to figure it out, she never replied (she had a bunch of weddings in June/July but being a planner means you need to plan ahead) which made me mad because I had tons of things to think about the week of my wedding! Then she said she would not put together my simple centerpieces (sand, water, floating candle) and that if I wanted she could give me a staff member to do it for $50/person/hour, I told her it would take all of 15 minutes but she didn't seem to care, me and my fiance ended up doing it the day of (as if we didn't have enough to do). Then the timeline she proposed was really terrible, she wanted us to do our speech right before the cake cutting but we accidentally did it after the other speeches (like 3 hours before scheduled cake) and it worked out best because everyone was still there to hear it. The final thing that really made me mad was that she was supposed to charge my dads card for the reception but instead of making it one lump sum she charged it 6x for diff amounts which triggered the cc company to put a freeze on it. -

We had our wedding at the beautiful Lafayette Hotel in 10/2013. The venue charming, the hotel staff accommodating, and we got wonderful comments on the hotel catered food. The reason for the low rating was because of the catering manager/coordinator Jeanene Bartell. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the only source of my frustration during planning stemmed from Jeanene.
1. Finalizing a date took 2 additional weeks because she wouldn't answer my emails/phone calls. Finally, we called the hotel manager requesting another coordinator. Jeanene finally called and said she had "email problems" (interesting note: we never again had "email problems").
2. When dealing with contracts, day-of-itinerary etc, I had to make multiple requests for the same corrections (and some were never corrected)
3. MANY guests gave feedback that she was condescending/rude to them. The wedding day, she wasn't feeling well (food poisoning), which I was sympathetic to. But if she made the commitment to be at the wedding to coordinate, she should at minimum be professional - not "mean" to our family members and friends.
4. She gave the DJ the wrong day-of timeline (I repeatedly asked her to correct it prior to the wedding day), then called him a "moron" for getting things wrong.
5. Accountability: There were many issues re: the hotel block; she said she would handle it, but problems persisted. Additionally, we paid for a secured parking for the wedding, but on the wedding day, guests said the lot was not open. Jeanene promised a refund (never came). It has now been 3 months since she has responded to me.
This is just a FEW of the issues we had (I have more stories). No wedding is without hitches; I never expected a perfect day. But what I DID expect was a coordinator who did her job. The wedding is just one day, and we had a happy day despite all these things. We laugh about it, but I would hate to subject any others to the frustrations that we experienced because of Jeanene. -
