Thank you to Modern Elopement and our wedding planner, Jennifer Takenaka for making our wedding stress-free and memorable! Jennifer responded to us in a timely manner and was able to answer all of our questions. She was very professional and so sweet when we met in person on the day of the wedding. We enjoyed working with her and appreciate all of her help! Overall, my husband and I did very little since Modern Elopement was able to take care of everything. We just took care of our attire, travel, and bringing certain documents for the marriage license agent.
We got engaged in Feb 2022 and eloped in June 2022 during our trip to Hawaii. We chose the Four Seasons package and had 13 people in our group (including me and my husband). They provided several questionnaires to help us choose what we wanted from a selection of vendors they curated (ie. photographer, music, course menu, florals, type of wedding officiant, etc.). You just have to choose what you want, and they take care of the rest. Our photographer, videographer, officiant, hair/makeup artist, and everyone else involved with our wedding were all friendly and professional.
They were also able to make accommodations such as adding a videographer to do a full ceremony video along with the included highlight clip, dietary restrictions, time changes, and more. Just ask! Highly recommend this company to plan your elopement/micro wedding. Give yourself some peace of mind and choose Modern Elopement. -

Where to begin...just do it! As in, book Modern Elopement if you want the most perfect intimate ceremony and best day of your lives in Hawaii! From the first inquiry, to the multiple choice wedding planning guide (hello easy!!), to the whole day coming to fruition above our wildest dreams...thank you thank you ME. Nicole was our amazing wedding concierge and I felt like we were best friends when we met (moments before I walked down the aisle) who had been sending each other emails for months! She is a natural at her job and I just felt like “she had us!” I didn’t need to worry at all because she handled Every. Single. Detail. So we could just enjoy it ALL. I truly keep reliving our day over and over and being overwhelmed at how it all unfolded better than I could’ve ever imagined. The options and vendors they have for you to choose from are the BEST on the island so you cannot go wrong. The locations are beyond. Our perfect day was worth every single penny and I’m so happy we trusted ME to make it happen! 💕 -

Working with Modern Elopment was the best decision we could have ever made when planning our wedding!
Finny and I knew we wanted a small, intimate wedding on Kauai with our closest family and friends. ME was able to provide the beautiful, intimate experience we were looking for and truly brought our vision to life - actually even better than we imagined!
From the very start Kayleigh and Nicole put us at ease and eliminated any stress from the planning. The design packages were gorgeous and we were able to pick one that felt like us, while also adding embellishments to add our own personal details.
There was constant assurance that everything would be perfect... and it was! Kayleigh and Nicole were amazing leading up to our wedding and Nicole made everything flow effortlessly on the day of. We cannot thank you enough for helping us create our dream wedding!

Unforgettable
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Modern Elopement for making this wedding everything that I imagined to be. Joemar and I wanted a small and intimate wedding with our closest friends and family and Modern Elopement was the BEST decision ever! I’m in complete awe how effortless, simple, and STRESS FREE Nicole and Kayleigh handled all of this while I live here in Georgia. I told myself that this is way too good to be true! Nicole and Kayleigh ended our conversations on the phone with “everything will be perfect”. -

This is really the easiest way to get married - there's a few items they'll need your input on, but for the stress-free bride, this is the experience you're looking for. Not to mention, these have to be a collection of the most stunning weddings put together on the Hawaiian islands.
The coordinator I worked with, Kayleigh, is absolutely amazing as well. She's a total ray of sunshine and she thinks of EVERYTHING! She had pins for my hair and lipstick for touch up before my dinner and after photos (I was a mess after our photos). I was blown away by this small gesture!
Every vendor you meet / work with / whose work you see is really ridiculously talented and fantastic at what they do. If I had known how everything would have been 100% perfect the day of, I would have relaxed a little more ;) Not to mention how crazy affordable the whole experience really is compared to what you'd pay for a wedding of the same quality on your own.
Seriously, my husband and I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you Kayleigh and Modern Elopement! -
User3523408 Sent on 06/17/2018Our experience with Modern Elopements was absolutely amazing! When we arrived at our wedding we were COMPLETELY blown away how gorgeous the venue was. Kayleigh helped us throughout the entire process. She is really sweet, responsive, organized, and VERY good at what she does. The thought of having someone else plan and be in charge of every aspect of our wedding was difficult at first, but having Modern Elopements take over was the best decision that we made. They do a great job at keeping things simple and streamlined yet beautiful and personal. The flower arrangements that Passion Roots made beyond exceeded our expectations and were breathtaking. Cheryl Hazelgrove did a fantastic job with my hair and makeup. Amber from Schyne did our photos and they turned out amazing. Every one of our guests was amazed at how calm we were on our wedding day, how perfectly the day went, and how absolutely beautiful the venue was. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a gorgeous yet stress-free wedding experience. :) -
Northwest Sent on 04/17/2018We still can’t believe how gorgeous our wedding ceremony was with Modern Elopement! Kayleigh and company really executed to make the whole process streamlined and stress free. We honestly didn’t know what to expect, all we needed to do was show up to Hawaii and enjoy the day. From the photography, to the transportation, flowers and even solo violinist, it culminated in an unforgettable experience. I recommend people who are trying to elope with a small intimate setting to choose Modern Elopement. They made their packages easy and were always available anytime. We still can’t believe the cost of it all. If we had our wedding in Los Angeles, the cost would have been equivalent to the catering in LA. Wow. Thank you Kayleigh!

We were both based in Japan while organising the wedding and were nervous on how to organise an overseas wedding, our minds were quickly put to ease as Moana Events provided a number of options and started supporting us in putting a plan together.
The wedding day was a resounding success, their vendors, set up, support of bilingual guests (Japanese) and location (Dillingham Ranch) were spectacular and we had an unforgettable day.
We would highly recommend Moana Events for anyone looking to get married in Hawaii. -

Modern Elopement made our special day stress free and intimate - exactly what we wanted, especially in light of the ever changing COVID precautions. We spent an hour or so planning/providing feedback and Nicole took care of the rest, including everything from car service, to assisting us with our marriage license, to ensuring we had the best photographer. With the logistics arranged, we were able to cherish the moment with each other. Highly recommend! -

Beautiful Experience!
Modern Elopement helped us plan our dream elopement on the Island of Oahu! What immediately drew me into the company was our initial phone call, I could tell that they were so passionate about weddings! I also liked that they had "lookbooks" of options that you could pick from like flowers, locations, dinner, etc. The lookbooks helped me visualize exactly what our big day was going to look like, which was very important to me. I also added some custom things like a custom cake, dinner reservations, and first dance, and they were extremely flexible and willing to accommodate requests. This took the Elopement to the next level because those custom touches are what make the day even more special. Nicole was our wedding planner, and by the end of our wedding day, we were sad to say goodbye! Throughout the process, we felt like we were old friends; she is such a genuinely sweet person! On the day of the wedding, we had rain, and Nicole managed to calm me down when I arrived at the venue. She also bustled my dress after the ceremony, which was a lifesaver. I was so worried about that! If you are on the fence about eloping, I would plan it with Modern Elopement, we have no regrets and were able to celebrate with 17 of our closest family and friends in paradise! -

The best day of our lives
Using modern elopement was the best wedding decision my husband and I made. Their team is by far the best! Nicole was in constant contact with us. She took the time to ensure our wedding day would include everything we wanted and more. She helped give us the best suggestions for our added embellishments. The day and night of our wedding could not have gone more smoothly. It was truly THE BEST night of our lives! I could go on and on about how amazing the modern elopement team is. If you are looking for a planner stop what you’re doing and hire them already! -

Not a great experience with Modern Elopement
Unfortunately, our experience with Morgan and her team was far from positive. We hired them on November 7th, 2022, for our wedding in July 2023. While our initial conversation with Morgan was pleasant, that was the only enjoyable interaction we had with her throughout the entire planning process.
From the outset, we communicated with our wedding planner, Jade, about needing transportation to and from our hotel. She assured us she would handle it and send us a website to choose add-ons. After submitting our wishlist on January 23rd, we didn’t hear back from Jade until February, with a vague response stating she needed more time to review it. Despite following up every two weeks, it would take up to two weeks to receive a reply. This caused unnecessary frustration, and it wasn’t until mid-April that we saw any real progress. By then, we were suddenly pressured to make decisions quickly. The whole point of booking nine months in advance was to alleviate stress, keep things organized, and maintain a clear budget. We received our wedding day schedule just one day before the wedding. Unfortunately, due to poor planning, this process became chaotic and cost us far more than anticipated.
From the start, transparency around pricing, wedding locations, and dinner options was lacking. The estimates we received were consistently vague, which was frustrating given their experience. I wanted to confirm our reception location based on the Lookout 1 option in Maui, but they were evasive, leaving us unsure whether transportation would be necessary. Fortunately, my now-husband found our preferred location (Gannons, now called Gather Maui) online, and we were able to make a decision based on his findings.
I had specific requests for the wedding day, including receiving pictures of the reception setup in advance, ensuring the cutlery was polished, and having the tablecloths ironed. None of these requests were respected. When I arrived at the ceremony, I asked to see pictures, and Nicole showed me three photos on her phone, falsely claiming she had sent them to me, but had poor reception. Meanwhile, I saw her receiving messages on her phone, which felt dishonest.
During the planning, they changed our dinner location within Gannon’s without consulting us. Originally, we were supposed to have a 24-foot double-wide dining table, but they replaced it with a 15-foot table, causing our guests to feel cramped. To make matters worse, there was no air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans, making everyone uncomfortably hot. There was also a larger, available space that could have been used, but they didn’t consider it. It’s disappointing that a wedding planner didn’t foresee these issues, especially after we paid for an extra planner to manage the setup.
Another issue was the transportation. Although we approved the transportation details early on, they didn’t confirm pricing until just two weeks before the wedding, at which point the cost had doubled. The added charge was for accommodating four additional guests, which we felt was unreasonable. We ended up having my in-laws drive themselves in their rental car. On the wedding day, two vehicles (a sprinter van and a van) arrived. The groom was unable to reach the planner in time, and when the driver said it wasn’t an issue to board the vehicle, we were later charged for these unexpected costs. Whether the responsibility lies with the transportation company or Modern Elopement, we’ll never know. What we do know is that they withheld our wedding video and photos until they resolved the transportation issue. We didn’t receive them until more than three months after the wedding, despite the fact they were ready within weeks.
After receiving our wedding photos and video, we noticed they were being shared on social media and other vendor sites. As per our contract, we were only required to notify them in writing if we didn’t want our photos distributed. I sent this request on October 27th, 2023, and Jade confirmed she would notify their vendors. However, in March 2025, I was shocked to find our photos posted on their social media and website. After requesting their removal and being ignored, I started leaving comments on the posts and sent emails via the HoneyBook portal and regular email. Morgan's condescending response to my requests only further proved her lack of respect for my wishes and her ongoing exploitation of our wedding for her business gain. She then blocked me on social media, implying she didn’t want me to see her ongoing use of my pictures.
Additionally, when they attempted to bill us for the extra transportation costs, they removed me from the HoneyBook portal, which I found highly unprofessional.
Lastly, during the reception setup, one of the planners left an invoice for our party favors in my suitcase. Modern Elopement had received a discount for ordering these items, but charged me the full 20% planner fee on the regular price, which makes me question whether they overcharged in other areas as well.
Despite reaching out to Jade multiple times to keep things moving, Morgan never stepped in to help. She only sent us a few condescending emails when she wanted our payment, but didn’t offer any meaningful assistance with the planning.
In the end, while our wedding was beautiful, it had very little to do with Modern Elopement. It was thanks to the vendors and choices we made. If I had to do it all over again, I would have planned everything myself and hired someone just for the day-of coordination to ensure things went smoothly.
