Wow when I think of Lara I have so many wonderful things to say. Lara and her associate Kate took outstanding pictures at my October 7, 2007 wedding. They were so friendly and professional that I totally forgot they were hired; they completely fell into place with my family and friends. My venue was very limited on photo opportunities, but Lara made it work. I am extremely happy with all of my pictures. They had all of my portraits completed in record time, so that my guest barely missed us in the transition from the ceremony to the reception hall. These ladies were so discrete, once I saw my proofs I was totally shocked to see certain pictures because I never saw the cameras flash. A Softer Image made my wedding day truly memorable. These were the best wedding portraits I have ever seen, and I am totally not being bias because it was my wedding, these ladies truly worked hard to produce a great product. I love Lara so much for making my special day spectacular. Oh my, and the customer service was to die for; just know that Lara knows how to truly make a bride and groom happy before, during, and after the big day. Thank you Lara I will recommend you to any and everyone that I know who needs a photographer. A Softer Image is number one in my book!

I just received the slideshow from our wedding yesterday from the WONDERFUL photographers at A Softer Image, and we were just moved to tears with how AMAZING the photos came out!!!! They were SO helpful through the entire planning process, and they were sure to make certain we had every detail ironed out well in advance - which is absolutely PRICELESS. Throughout the entire day they were punctual, flexible, and professional. Several guests came up to us throughout the ceremony and complimented how pleasant they were! We never felt like we had a camera in front of our faces, but somehow they managed to get these amazing close ups and intimate moments. So many pictures were moments that I missed, and I'm so glad that they were caught on film! We are SO lucky to be able to have so many wonderful pictures capturing our special day! I would recommend A Softer Image Photography to everyone! We just could not say enough about how happy we are with not only our pictures, but just how wonderful they were to work with. They will make your day go by so much smoother and you won't have a single regret working with them! We love A Softer Image!!

Lara and her colleagues were very flexible and gave a lot of personal attention to the details of my wedding day. She was actively interested in our traditions and did a lot of planning beforehand to make sure we all knew what to expect. I was really glad to have her and her colleagues at the wedding. There were unobtrusive but also just really good company. Everyone loved having them around, and they captured some really awesome moments just by being in the middle of the action.

Perfect, perfect, perfect experience. Lara and her assistant Joanie shot our October wedding and I am not the most comfortable person in front of a camera, but she was so kind and professional that I was immediately at ease and not awkward at all. She and Joanie shot a mix of creative and traditional photos so we have the whole spectrum -- stunning action shots of the dancing and the wind in my veil, as well as plenty of elegant portraits to make the parents happy. I also loved that she was up for anything (such as when, on the spur of the moment, I wanted to trek down the marina before the ceremony for a few photos near some yachts).

I couldn't be happier that we lucked out with Lara as our photographer. Sometimes I look at the proofs and I can't believe that these are really my wedding photos. She is truly fantastic and I am so grateful to her!

Over & over again, I have been complimented on the photos that Lara Swanson took for us - pictures from our engagement portraits and our wedding day will forever serve as reminders of what an amazing day it was!

Lara was incredibly professional, helpful, fun, artistic thru the entire process. She shared our enthusiasm for the day and did a fantastic job scouting locations with us, suggesting poses, responding to our input, and generally making the photography on the day a total JOY!

Everyone that attended our small, destination wedding has told us what a fantastic job Lara did on their portraits and our photos. Because we only invited our immediate families and bridal parties to Mexico for our wedding, it was important that the pictures perfectly capture the tone of the day. With Lara, we knew that we wouldn't have to worry!

She was with us on the plane to Mexico, on the bus from the airport, touring the resort with our wedding planner, and there from our morning spa appointments to the final jump in the pool & cutting the cake after!

Lara provided INCREDIBLE service and amazing photos that we'll treasure for the rest of our lives! We cannot recommend her highly enough!

Lara was wonderful to work with!! And our photos came out beautifully. She really listened to what we wanted and did her best to accommodate the style and quantity of photos that we wanted. She was very professional and fun, and just a sweet person (as was her assistant). We were lucky to have her as our photographer - in more ways than one.

Lara and her assistant did an amazing job, was great to work with, always showed great professionalism as well as tons of warmth. Lara traveled to Maine for us and we could not have been happier. And when she posted a slide show the very next day just to preview our images, we could not believe it. I can only hope to have the fortune to work with her again.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. My husband and I loved working with Lara, and give her our highest recommendation.

We knew from our first meeting that working with Lara would be easy and fun. She came to our meeting well-prepared, answered all of our questions, and didn't even seem to mind my husband's over-caffeinated exuberance! Lara was completely understanding of the fact that Nick and I planning our wedding while already legally married, and embraced our rather untraditional approach to the wedding. She just seemed to really "get" us and what we wanted for both our wedding and our photography.

Nick and I had a lot of questions leading up to the wedding day, mostly regarding the timing on the day of and shot lists. Lara answered every single one, and even did a few conference calls with us to get everything sorted out. She also gave us a lot of advice on how to organize the whole day. She was very responsive and patient with this compulsive researcher!

On our wedding day, Lara showed up early, with a surprise second shooter in tow! They put up with a lot during the day: I was stressed, my wedding elves were running amok, and the temperature was up in the mid 90s! But Lara and Kelly dealt with the heat and stress and shortened tempers with smiles and grace, simply adjusting their schedule and shot list to accommodate unhappy family members. They were very understanding of a stressful family situation, and were very discreet in helping me sneak in photos with some unsuspecting (uncooperative?) guests. Nick and I received a lot of compliments from our guests about Lara and Kelly�s cheerful demeanors and professionalism.

Lara had our slideshow up on her blog in about 24 hours, and our proofs came in shortly thereafter. It was so nice to be able to look at the photos while still glowing from wedding. The slideshow even moved me to tears.

Nick and I also did a "day after" shoot, which Lara kindly agreed to do instead of the engagement session that was included with our package. (We didn�t see the point of having e-pics when we were already married). Her husband chauffeured us all over DC, and we had a great time running from location to location to take cool and interesting shots. I usually don't enjoy posing for photos, but I could have done this all day! Again, Lara had the teaser up on her blog within 24 hours, and our proofs came in shortly thereafter.

Nick and I are still working on choosing photos for our album, and Lara has been both incredibly patient and helpful, answering all of our questions and giving us tips on how to choose our shots for the album. She's also sent us a few surprises along the way! We're looking forward to working with Lara through the end of the album design process, and we both agree that if/when the time comes for maternity & baby photos, Lara is our first and only choice!

As a final note, I just want to add that Lara went above and beyond wedding photographer duty by donating three gift certificates for portrait sessions to an auction I organized to raise money for my employer's (the World Bank) Community Connections Campaign.

So if you're looking for a cool, laidback, and knowledgeable wedding photographer who will patiently guide you through the chaos of wedding planning, and who will understand and embrace your wedding, whether traditional, alternative, or something in between, Lara is your woman.

Lara was a pleasure to work with from my initial inquiry to the wedding and day and post-wedding work. She is incredibly creative, smart, talented, and hardworking. Anytime that I write to her I get a really fast response. She is incredibly helpful, and a wonderful listener. You just need to look at her web site to see how incredible he photography is. I got tons of compliments on our engagement and wedding photos, and I always felt that Lara was interested in understanding our personalities and exactly what we wanted out of our wedding. I could not recommend Lara Swanson more highly. She is an exceptional photographer whose work goes beyond ordinary wedding photos but are works of art that could be in a gallery or the pages of a magazine. She not only photographed the events as they unfolded, but captured the spirit and emotion of the day while being completely unobtrusive.

We were lucky enough to have her shoot our engagement session and wedding and had the best experience working with her. She is extremely professional, yet made us feel very relaxed and at-ease, which is great for two people who arent very comfortable in front of the camera. She went above and beyond the call of duty time and again, from showing up 40 minutes earlier than her wedding call time (with no extra charge!), to bringing two assistant photographers with her (also with no extra charge!), to helping the bride get her dress on, to answering dozens of questions quickly and patiently. The turn-around time for proofs was even faster than promised and prints were also delivered very quickly. Her photo retouching skills are amazing and the special effects she can add to photos enhance their beauty without being over-the-top or cheesy.

I had been following Lara's work and watching her progress through the years before I booked her for my wedding. When I became engaged, I asked her to be my photographer because I knew she would deliver the quality of pictures that I wanted; not to mention, I knew her to be professional, easy-going, and fun. I knew she would capture the tone of my wedding, but more importantly, my relationship. She kept me on top of my deadlines, and put together a very organized list of who I would want to be in what portraits, and when. Coming from a "divorced" family, I was concerned that there could be some awkwardness surrounding formal picture taking, but there was nothing like that. She labeled all of my photos in a very organized way, such as "Getting read," "Reception," Details," "Ceremony," etc., which made the review process a breeze. She also debuted her photo booth at my wedding, which was a HUGE HIT with my guests. My wedding was both traditional and some aspects and offbeat in other ways, and she did justice to both of those notions. Her turnaround time with providing the proofs to me was very quick, so I was able to keep my wedding buzz going for a while. I would recommend Lara & her second shooters with full confidence to anyone.

Of all our vendors, Lara Swanson Photography was definitely our greatest find. The photos were one of the most important elements because we knew that would be the one thing we would take away and keep forever. She came accompanied by Jen and Terisa, and I honestly can't think of one tiny complaint about any of them. Lara's very personable and seems to really love each wedding that she works. Lara and all the other photographers she works with have a great eye so all of our photos (and there were a lot) turned out as a piece of art and not just a simple snapshot that anyone could take. Everyone at the wedding was impressed with how fast the photographers were and how well that stayed out of the way. We couldn't believe some of the shots they managed to catch without us ever noticing they were there. They even put together a teaser slideshow of some of the best shots during the reception that we got to see at the end of the night and again at home the following morning, and we were amazed at all the things they managed to capture that we otherwise would have missed. I would highly reccomend Lara to anyone who is looking for the highest quality, creative photos. On top of everything else, she is incredibly reasonable pricewise and well worth three times what we paid. We also got our engagement photos through her and even though they turned our great, she offered to retake them later in the year because it ended up being overcast on the day of and she wanted our photos to truly shine. Both sessions, were fun, fast, and resulted in a ton of great photos. I have been to several weddings where afterward you couldn't tell the difference between the photographer's photos and the slew of other photos taken by family and friends, and with our photos, there is no doubt about which ones were taken by the professionals. We cannot wait to see how our album turns out and to use these photos to decorate our home(s) for the rest of our lives. Thank you Lara, Jen, and Terisa for truly capturing the memories we can keep for the rest of our lives.

Lara and her team did an amazing job with our wedding. She was incredibly responsive from the first email to the last touch-ups. She has great professionalism, but is also laid back and very easy to work with. She takes the time to get to know you and your personality and it really shows in her photos! She and her team truly captured the spirit and personality of us and our wedding. Their creativity and flexibility are remarkable - including artsy shots more to my tastes but also parent-friendly traditional portraits, which we had in hand a week after the wedding! Lara also knocked our and our family's socks off with how quickly, efficiently and gracefully she worked through a long list of portraits. I simply do not have enough nice things to say about Lara. I could not have dreamed of a better wedding photographer. From the first moment we met her, she impressed us with her professionalism, artistry and good humor. After we booked her, and in the many months leading up to our wedding, every interaction we had with her surpassed our expectations our emails were answered within hours and any and every question we had was answered expertly. On our wedding day, Lara and her team were a well oiled machine, capturing all the special moments of our day without ever being obtrusive. Lastly, and most importantly, our wedding pictures are spectacular. We sent the teaser slideshow (that we received within days of the wedding) to our guests and received countless compliments about the gorgeous, artistic, and heartfelt photos. We received the complete catalog of pictures 10 days after our wedding, and the only complaint we have is how we are ever doing to pick favorites from the 2000+ stunning shots. So yeah, Id recommend Lara a million times over.

We had a wonderful experience working with Lara photography. They were professional, lovely to work with, thorough and not overbearing. Most of the time I didn't even know they were there. They also took beautiful pictures and got every shot we asked for and more. We even received a mini slide show the day after. The price was extremely reasonable especially since you get to keep all the prints, no horror stories of having to pay per photo. We are extremely satisfied and recommend her highly.

I'm not even sure where to start with Lara. I researched hundreds of photographers and interviewed seven because I had a very specific idea of what I wanted. Lara was the second one, and we really didn't need to interview any more after her. From the very beginning, she knew exactly what I wanted and I had no doubt that she would deliver perfectly. I cannot describe how perfect she was for our wedding. We were trying to find someone to represent us and the unorthodox mixture of a Scottish/Jewish wedding. The little details and the vision that she brought to us was a perfect fit and I would recommend her to anyone who wants someone to think outside the box. I know in the other reviews it mentioned the speed that she returned the pictures as well as the great candid shots. With my wedding, she showed the same attention to detail, speed, quality, professionalism, and friendship that she had shown through the whole process. I would love to go into more details, but there are so many surprises that showed up I don't want to spoil anything. But here is my new husbands thoughts on Lara: "LARA F#(%Oing RULED MAN! WTF are you doing still looking? Hire her already before I hit you with my shoe!" Nuff said? :)

A friend referred me to Lara Swanson Photography, and Lara recently photographed my wedding in Washington DC. My husband and I have been 110% satisfied with every aspect of our interactions with Lara. When we first contacted her to ask about her services she was very helpful in providing tips for us to think about and laying out a clear timeline of how things would work with her leading up to the wedding (this was useful as I had not been involved in planning a wedding before).
On the day of our wedding Lara and Jamie were on time and professional, but I was most impressed by how they put us at ease. My husband and I walked around Dupont Circle with Lara and Jamie taking pictures before the ceremony, and that is one of my favorite memories of the day. Having a second photographer also helped in catching some interesting angles in the photos.
Lara provided the online slideshow of our wedding the day after our ceremony; we were amazed at the quick turnaround and the quality of the slideshow was impeccable. Lara also had the proof site up and ready for viewing in record time, as well as responding to our requests for re-touches very quickly.
I would use Lara Swanson Photography again for any of my own future photography needs, and would recommend the company to other brides without exception.

Lara traveled all the way to western Virginia to shoot our outdoor wedding. When it started to rain during the portraits, she was SO professional and encouraged us to press onward. She had already scouted locations for photos in the woods, so everything was very quick. That meant that guests didn't have to wait long at all to start the reception.

Prior to the wedding, Lara was so kind to show us all of our options and was very patient in dealing with questions. She would periodically check in with us and send us examples of cool photographs that reminded her of us. That really made me feel like she cared about bringing her best to what we wanted that day. I highly recommend Lara for anyone who wants something more uniquely suited to them. She's definitely not just the same old wedding photographer!

Lara Swanson and her team of photographers were exactly right for us. They adapted effortlessly to our non-traditional wedding and to our less than specific ideas. We felt like we were collaborating with artists, not hiring a "vendor" and the photographs reflect an intimacy and naturalness that we couldn't have gotten were it not for the great team effort.

We found booking, negotiations and the post process easy and easy for our families -- we could select our favorites, hide our embarrassing outtakes and get lots of feedback from everyone. We couldn't be happier with the results.

Lara and her staff were the most pleasant an accommodating. We actually found her on Craigslist while she was finishing up her degree at American University. She was already experienced in the field and was trying to jump start her business. Her photography is beautiful and breathtaking. We can't say enough wonderful things about A Softer Image. Lara was professional, enthusiastic, and excited about her profession. She was also very nice, very easy to work with, and extremely prompt and responsive. She had a lot of great, creative, and unique ideas for shots that would work great with my husband and my personalities. I also got a lot of great shot ideas from other weddings she has done.

I think we got a special introductory deal as she was building up her own business, but her rates are still reasonable, and she is worth a bit more. Lara is amazingly talented, and we were lucky enough for her to bring on board another wonderful talent, Jen, in time join her to shoot our wedding.

During the wedding and reception, Lara and Jen were completely unobtrusive to the point that I almost didn't notice them most of the time, yet they managed to capture some really priceless moments.

Everyone who saw our wedding photos was amazed, and my husband and I were so pleased. I highly recommend A Softer Image!

I had the immense pleassure of working with Lara from A Softer Image for my wedding this past October and my only complaint is that I didn't use her for our engagement shots as well! Lara was everything that I could have ever dreamed....she was friendly and upbeat and so much fun to work with. She was flexible with the times and very accomadating when things didn't go exactly according to plan. She was also very quick and efficient, which was most definitely appriciated. And even though I got the very skimmed down package, I am nothing short of amazed with the finished product. I can't even begin to describe how happy I am with the photos! They are vivid and artistic and simply breathtaking. I honestly couldn't be happier with my choice to use A Softer Image for my big day.

Lara and her assistant were absolutely amazing for my wedding. Her correspondence before the wedding was so prompt and it was so incredibly easy to work with her. For someone who was starting her own business I could not believe how professional everything she did was. The actual day of the wedding she went out of her way to be there early for me and get through out formal portraits when we were running behind on time. Before I even got home from my honeymoon my proofs were sitting there waiting for me in my email. I know people who have had to wait MONTHS to get their proofs back.

She is AMAZING and anyone would be crazy to book anyone else but her for their wedding.

If this site would let me give Lara and A Softer Image six stars out of five I would.

I simply cannot say enough in this space about the incredible photos, wonderful personality and genuine care that we received from A Softer Image. Our photography team navigated with us on wedding day through the subway, in cabs, on shuttle buses, in four major locations, still managing to get great shots on a rather tight timeline.

The photographs are stunning. My mother-in-law, who is not an overly emotional person, teared up when she saw the first shots.

The portraits are wonderful, but A Softer Image is particularly talented at catching impromptu and touching moments in a way that was beyond even my high expectations.

Add to that the fact that Lara and Jen knew how to make the day easier for me - it's hard to describe, but they so clearly understand the stress a bride faces. I consider them good friends now who captured simply amazing memories for me. But more than that, the day itself would have been much less without their humor, patience and smiles beside me.

If you are lucky enough to fit onto their schedule, absolutely hire them.
