Great Wedding Venue with Outstanding Service

Embassy Suites Old Town provided the perfect setting for our wedding celebration. Sonia is the reason I chose the venue and I'm so glad my decision was right - her support and guidance were invaluable throughout the entire process. Kevin was also incredibly supportive and responsive whenever we had questions or concerns. When Sonia was out for a month, her coverage Maddie was also exceptional to work with. Having our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in different spaces within the hotel made the logistics much smoother while creating distinct experiences for guests throughout the event. One of our guests even mentioned it was their favorite wedding they'd attended! For summer brides: pack bug spray if you plan photos by the fountain - beautiful pictures, but plan ahead!

We loved having our reception at Embassy Suites. We really enjoyed working with Craig- he was very friendly, responsive, and helpful. So many of our guests were raving about the venue and the delicious food-- especially the lobster mac 'n cheese. Everything was ready on the wedding day so that we didn't need to stress because we knew Craig and the rest of the crew was making sure everything went smoothly. It was great having a wedding at a venue that had so much experience and so you could trust them to be on top of all the details. We had a ton of out-of-town guest so it was so nice having the venue where everyone could stay. There was a temporary issue with all of the rooms at the hotel booking up but Embassy Suites worked with us and we were able to find a room for all of our guests.

The Catering Manager Craig and his team of sales managers and banquet staff really came together to pull off a great flawless event for me yesterday. They were flexible with minor room set up changes and made sure they was always food for my guests, which by the way was very delicious!

Thanks Embassy Suites, I will definitely recommend this venue to my wedding clients!

I held my wedding ceremony and reception at the Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria. The first person I spoke to was Tiffany Hightower. We were treated like valued clients from the moment we walked through the door. She gave us a tour of the ceremony area, reception rooms and hotel rooms that would be open for our guests. Afterwards, they offered us dinner on the house to mull over our choices. We had been to many sites throughout Virginia, and especially in Alexandria, and this was by far the most customer service oriented. They really were the best. The contract was pulled together quickly, easy to understand, and generous.

As planning for the wedding progressed, we were dismayed to learn that Tiffany had taken a position at another company. We wished her the best, and wondered how that would affect our wedding planning. In what can only be a complement to the staffing and professionalism of the Embassy Suites, I can say that our planning continued without a hitch. We worked with a new person, of course, Deborah Bell, but she was also accommodating, and patient, and offered her insight and experience to help us plan a wonderful day.

My husband to be and I were even allowed into the sight occasionally by the staff to help sort out details of planning for decorations (escorted by the staff, of course). I just can't emphasize enough how accommodating they were.

On the day of the wedding, there was a bride getting married in the afternoon before me. I had been told about this the moment she signed a contract. We always knew this would be a possibility, but many venues do this, and we trusted the Embassy Suites and didn't have a problem with it. Unfortunately, she was apparently 2 hours late to her own wedding (!!!) and so her reception started 2 hours late, etc. The Staff at the Embassy Suites was Incredible! They got the room turned around in under an hour with escort cards and table cards set out and in good order. I never knew about the iss

The Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria was wonderful for our wedding. They were prompt with everything we asked for - they offered good suggestions and ideas to fit with our budget and plans for the wedding reception. They worked with our other vendors VERY well..... they put on a GREAT party and did everything with class and exceptional professionalism.... I would do it again there in a heartbeat. I HIGHLY recommend this venue for receptions - they also have a beautiful atrium for ceremonies as well.

We booked the Embassy Suites Alexandria for our wedding ceremony, (first) reception, and host hotel for our wedding guests. The hotel was nice and the staff is very professional and accommodating.

We had our ceremony in the Garden Atrium. It is a beautiful space with a lot of natural light and greenery. Our pictures turned out beautifully. Initially we were a little concerned that there would be an issue with noise since the atrium is in the center of the hotel, but it was fine and we didn't have any issues.

Our reception was held in the Virginia Ballroom. The buffet and bar were set up in the back of the room and it was always enough space and staff to accommodate our guests. The bartenders and servers were great and many of our guests commented on how delicious everything was.

Each of the rooms in our room block were suites and our guests loved the free breakfast and evening reception that the hotel offered. Many of our guests also hung out in the atrium area and visited the bar throughout the day. (One thing to note is that Caprese Restaurant that is part of the hotel can be understaffed and a little slow for larger parties). The Embassy Suites also gives the bride/groom 1 complimentary night. Our suite was very nice and spacious with a balcony and was on a separate side of the hotel, which added an extra level of privacy and exclusivity. We ended up booking the room for a few extra days.

If you decide to book here I would highly recommend you request A'Lyce Evans for your Event Manager. She is AMAZING! She was professional, personable, and extremely accommodating throughout the entire process. She frequently went above and beyond to accommodate us, including staying late to meet with us during the week and working with our guests and vendors with any needs and questions they had. A'Lyce was always responsive to emails and any questions and/or changes we requested. On the wedding day I didn't have to worry about anything and everything ran so smoothly!

The perfect venue for our day!

My (now) husband and I really had our heart set on getting married in Old Town Alexandria because it is where we met. I really wanted a hotel wedding for the convenience. This was the perfect venue for us! Our wedding day was amazing.
    Pros:
    - Staff- Sonia was our main point of contact and day of coordinator. She was excellent. She made sure everything ran smoothly and that I didn't have to deal with anything the day of. I cannot say enough how great she is. All of the other staff was great as well.
    - Food- The food we had at our tasting was excellent, and the chef came out to talk to us. I was worried about having a buffet but every guest we have talked to raved about the food. We did steak and crab cakes and people couldn't get enough.
    - Venue- I loved the atrium where we had the ceremony. Due to the weather I really wanted an indoor ceremony that also looked lovely. I also loved how many different areas there were for photos. We did a first look outside by the trees and then later in the evening did a few quick photos by the lights by the courtyard.
    - Location- I love Old Town. We are local but had many out of town guests. Old Town was the perfect place to guests to spend their day and the metro allowed easy access to DC for those guests who stayed an extra day.
    - Value- We had a fairly strict budget. Embassy Suites was surprisingly affordable. We did pay a small fee for the ceremony space but there was no venue fee for the reception, only a minimum food and drink spend. It ended up being one of the least expensive venues we looked at, which is crazy considering how great everything was. They also comped two nights in a suite for the bride and had a room for the groom to get ready in. Plus they threw in a free champagne toast!
    Cons:
    - The only downside I can think of is the reception was in the ballroom which is a pretty generic hotel ballroom. I thought it looked beautiful all done up but I could see this being a draw back for some couples.

I would highly recommend the Embassy Suites for your event. We worked with Craig throughout and Sonia on the day of and both were so accommodating, responsive, and professional. Craig was very thorough in giving me a walk through and answering all of my questions, he was super responsive via email throughout the lead up to the wedding, he even let us set up a second menu tasting because the executive chef wasn't there for our first tasting and he wanted us to meet him. The food was wonderful, they handled all of the set up of our space and the special decorations we provided, and everything went off without a hitch. We really didn't have to worry about a thing the day of, which was amazing. The ballroom is beautiful with great chandeliers and the hotel is great and conveniently located by the metro and the Old Town Trolley. The guest suite that we had was huge and had a great set up for having hair and makeup stylists come to you, there was plenty of room. And since so many of our guests were coming from out of town, being able to have people stay at the hotel on the room block was very convenient. We also got to use part of the restaurant space the next morning for a farewell breakfast with guests staying in the hotel, which was really nice and gave us a little more time to talk to our guests and say goodbye.

We had our guest room block at the Embassy Suites, as well as our welcome gathering the night before the wedding. Everything was fantastic! The guests all seemed to enjoy the hotel, which certainly had a lot to offer. The location is great (right across the street from the metro and the King St. Trolley stop).

We worked with Alyce to coordinate the room block, and she was fantastic. She was super on top of our event, and proactively reached out to me as deadlines approached to make sure we had everything we needed (not the case with all our vendors!). She even sent us a treat and a lovely note too our room the night of the wedding. Such a great personal touch!

The rest of the hotel staff was very helpful too. They were even able to accommodate a last minute change in our day-before reception and put together a great catered, private space on just a few days notice.

We had the chance to work with Craig Luparello for our wedding at the Embassy Suites, and were extremely satisfied with how it turned out.

Starting with the hotel itself, it’s in a great location, close to the Amtrak and Metro stations, as well as the trolley into Old Town Alexandria. Our guests raved about how easy it was to get there from the airport and through other means of travel. The design of the hotel is truly unique, with a large atrium area containing trees and a fountain inside, and a beautiful exterior courtyard as well. The rooms are suites – which means they’re extremely comfortable – and also include a high quality breakfast buffet as part of the price.

In terms of the wedding, we were thrilled to be able to use the inside atrium for our ceremony, and it didn’t disappoint. The cocktail and main reception went very smoothly, which was a testament to the preparation of Craig and his staff, and all of the work that he put into verifying the details of our occasion. The food was also outstanding, for all parts of the day! Definitely a step above what we’ve tasted at other weddings and venues.

Finally, Craig and his staff were extremely professional, courteous, and personable. Working with them was a true pleasure. Craig’s experience was apparent from the beginning, and he was always able to provide us with advice or suggestions if we needed them. He did not try to push us or sell us on more expensive options like we’ve seen from other hotels, and instead worked with us to get us good deals when we were interested in upgrading or expanding on the day.

Our only issue was with the room block. Apparently the hotel has to continually increase the size of the block as more guests book their rooms, which was frustrating for some of our guests who kept being told that no rooms were available. We were able to eventually get this resolved, but it took a decent amount of follow-up, particularly the further away we were from the wedding day.

Embassy Suites was a great hotel for our guests! Good facilities, good ratio of value to cost and our guests said the hotel treated them very well (particularly the kids). The location so close to the heart of Old Town and to the metro was excellent. Our guests had a great time.

The only issue we had was occasional problems with guests being told all the rooms were booked when they weren't. This apparently has to do with how Embassy Suites sets aside rooms in their computer only 2-5 rooms at a time rather than the full block, so if those 5 set aside rooms get reserved, the sixth person is told there are no more rooms even though the special events person will be setting aside more rooms the next day. We had a couple panicked guests call us when this happened over weekends and the first go-around made us nervous, the second go-around made us a little frustrated that the reservation people at the hotel didn't know enough (or have the information available) to tell the guests this.

So I'd suggest Embassy Suites work out this glitch or that those using them warn their guests to call back Embassy Suites on successive days.

We had an amazing experience at the Embassy Suites. Joshua Beatty was very helpful and made our wedding and reception wonderful. We had our ceremony in the atrium, and we had our reception in the Windsor Room. As far as the wedding and reception, everything went smoothly. Joshua made sure that all of our little details were taken care of, and he very patiently dealt with the numerous emails from my father. The venue was very clean and all of the staff at the reception were very nice. The servers made sure that we were taken care of all night, and even helped us clean up our centerpieces after the ceremony.

That said, we had a less than stellar experience with Nygist, the woman who handles the room block for the guests. We had to send her several emails before she would respond, and she was very unclear on several occasions about whether our room block was full or had more space. Several of our guests were told that the block was full, when in fact there were several rooms left. Also, we were told that the room block would be for any type of room that our guests wanted, with no limitations, but a few guests were told there were no more rooms with a king bed, and that they would have to have a room with two double beds (or vice versa) if they wanted in the block.

We were also under the understanding that using the hotel's "room block" concept would give our guests a deal - but in the months approaching the reception, we became aware that the rate they were charging our guests was $15-$25 a night more than what they were offering online or to regular call-in reservations. We mentioned this to Nygist, and her response was, "That's the risk you take when using a room block - most of the time the block rates are better, but sometimes they're not." Needless to say, we felt extremely stupid asking our guests to pay MORE for a room just to avoid us being liable for the cost of the unused rooms. She was completely unwilling to make any exceptions, and we had more than a few negative comments from family members when those that did reserve in the block realized that they had paid more than those who didn't. With several other hotels in the area, our guests could have easily stayed somewhere else (or booked outside our block), and because of this experience, we regret using the "room block" at the hotel.

That said, my advice would be to definitely use the Embassy Suites in Old Town as a venue - it was an amazing place for a wedding, and we have received several comments on the beauty of the venue from people looking at the wedding pictures. However, I would definitely think twice before using the room block, or be very clear up front (preferably in writing) about the price of the rooms in the event that the hotel rates drop before the wedding.

Embassy Suites provided lodging for our out-of-town wedding guests. It was very easy to work with them and create a web page so that our guests could reserve a room at the group rate. They also provided a hotel shuttle to restaurants in Old Town. The only problems we encountered were the inability to change reservations sometimes through the web page, and when our guests arrived at the hotel, not all of them received gift bags, despite the gift bag guest list we provided the front desk. We were very disappointed about the gift bag snafus, otherwise we would have given Embassy a higher rating.

We had our wedding reception in the Windsor Room. We worked with Tiffany H and she was very easy to work with. She always returned my phone calls and emails. Our event flowed very smoothly and the wait staff was very professional. I found the venue to be flexible with our requests. The staff strung lights on the topiaries for us and set up other items such as our favors, bar napkins, and assisted with our centerpieces.

The only complaints we had were with the hotel. Several of our guests had issues with their key cards not working and we ran into that problem ourselves. I was taking gifts back to my room and other items when much to my dismay neither of my key cards worked to let me in to my room. My friend had to call the front desk for me from her room. Also, we scheduled to use one of the hotel shuttles to transport our guests from the hotel to our church. My friends and relatives told my dad later that the driver never showed up. We saw the shuttle as we were leaving the church around 5:45 pm when he was suppose to be there at 5. We told the hotel that we weren't going to pay for the shuttle and they did not charge us but told us that the driver was there in time. I highly doubt it since my relatives are very punctual. Oh, the other issue we had was with Dukes Bar and Grill. We were informed that Duke's would stay open as long as we had paying customers. Well we had at least 25 friends and relatives paying for drinks and they closed down at their normal time. Also, they locked the elevator to get up there and I had to troop back over to the front desk to get them to call upstairs and let me up. Not fun with my full wedding gear on!

Otherwise, we were very happy with the event staff and hotel. Just be careful when dealing with the hotel regarding shuttle services.

Joshua Beatty at the Embassy Suites was so great to work with. I must have emailed him 2500 times, but he was always professional, and worked as hard as he could to make sure I got exactly what I wanted! We did the ceremony in the hotel atrium, which was beautiful, and then the reception upstairs in the Windsor Room. It was a great way to do a food & drink package for our guests, we paid about $85 per person for dinner, and an all night open bar, so I didn't have to line up a separate caterer and beverage provider. Everything went off without a hitch on the night of the wedding, despite there being another wedding going on downstairs. We ran into a few hiccups with our guests checking in for the wedding - keep in mind that check in time is 3pm, so if you have guests coming from out of town, you might want to ask them to come in a day early, and the hotel is not very flexible on extending the dates that your guests can get the discounted group rate. Overall, this was a great place to hold our wedding, we had exactly 100 guests, and the Windsor Room was perfect, not too big, not too small, and I couldn't have asked for a better coordinator than Josh!

I had a wonderful wedding reception here. There was a switch in event planning staff from the time I booked till the wedding, but it ended up being no problem at all. I had check in and follow up on decisions that were made but overall it was a wonderful experience. Reservations can be frustrating. Most of my guest booked outside our block because it was cheaper to book online. Tell your guests to book as early as possible!!! When it got closer to the day they turned all of the available rooms into two night only stays which cause a lot of stress and frustration as many people were not in town for two nights. So book early. The review I heard most from the guest was how wonderful the food was. I agree, they had a good selection and everything was delicious.

All of our guests enjoyed their time at Embassy Suites in Old Town. Its location near the Metro made it extra easy for those out-of-towners who wanted to see some of the sights while they were in town. As for the reception itself, everything flowed smoothly. Although there were two separate staff changes between the time I booked the venue and my actual wedding, they were very good about making sure they met with me to ensure all my requests were carried over to the new staff member. All of our wedding guests commented on what a great time they had at the reception. The food was great, the staff was nice, and the price was on par with other area venues. A great value in a great location!

The staff was professional and friendly, we had a few glitches that could have not been forseen and they could have been handled better.

Worked with Tiffany H., was throughly disappointed with her lack of attention to detail as well as our own needs. Don't expect phone calls, just a bill without details of what you're being charged for, and be ready to waste a lot of time trying to get her on the phone to address your concerns.

On the plus side, the venue is beautiful and the staff were very professional.

Unfortunately, finding an event manager who doesn't take you seriously and only explains additional charges once they've reached your credit card bill can really detract from an otherwise enjoyable experience.
