What would be an appropriate way to ask (or say we prefer) money over gifts. FH & I have lived together for 3 years and have everything we need for our home so I have no interest in doing a registry....

Is it weird to send out an engagement announcement even though the wedding is two years away? I of course want to do engagement pics but is this too far out? And are announcements too far out?
