Michael and I first met when we were placed on the same Mayanot Birthright trip to Israel in the summer of 2012. I will never forget that first day, Michael and I, having just met, were seated in the same row on the airplane. I had the window seat and he had the aisle. The passenger in the middle, sensing we may be traveling together, asked if he wanted to switch so that we could sit next to each other. Mike quickly replied, "No thank you." Fortunately, I did not take it personally. While on the trip we had the opportunity to become close friends. A friendship that quickly took a romantic turn shortly after we returned from our amazing trip.
