Jacobo & I met through our mutual friend Stacey Gilliam Carr. At the time she was my roommate and she was working on a play. She called Jacobo over to give her some advice on the costumes. At that time he was into fashion design not to mention he was known as Jacob to everyone not Jacobo. When he showed up I thought he was cute, but I also thought he was conceded, stuck up and very full of himself. I didn't see him again until a year later. It was kind of funny because we met under the exact same circumstances, only in a different place. Though I didn't think much of it at first. Then I left and went to my friend Marc Reyes' house where he was having a party. Out of the blue in walks Jacobo. I had no clue they were friends; small world! We got to talking about cars, and my 65' Mustang. I was telling him I need to get some work done on my car. He said her knew someone and so he asked me for my number. I had no clue he worked on cars. All I knew was that he was a fashion designer. So when he called me I was expecting for him to refer me to someone. Instead he asked me out on a date. I was very reluctant at first, but he was very persistent. He called me every day for about a week. Finally my grandmother said I should just go out with him. So I decided to give him a chance. The day we were supposed to go out he was late, and we almost didn't go out because I gave up on him, and left with a friend. Then he called so I told he had to come and pick me up. He asked me if he could take me to Riches and go out dancing. I said ok since I kind of made him grovel. Since it was a week before Christmas I thought I would share the Christmas spirit. When we got into the club it was empty; there where only about four people there. We went ahead and where dancing just having fun. I liked his energy, and I could tell he was a bit of a free spirit which I liked. Then suddenly this bubble machine started blowing bubbles all around us, and these two guys showed up on either side of us out of the blue and started sprinkling rose petals on top of us while we were dancing. Jacobo started catching them and giving them to as if they where a gift to me. It was the most unusual and romantic date I had ever been on. I would have to say I was pretty much hooked! As time grew on and I really got to know him I learned that all the stuff I first thought about him was pretty much just his defense mechanism. He's nothing like that! He turned out to be very kind, fun, full of energy, and he has this calmness about him that was something new to me. He really helped me in my own life. We had been together just a short year when our relationship took a warp speed turn. It almost seems like this point on we have done everything backwards. I found out I was pregnant. We decided not to rush into thing and get married just because I was pregnant, but we still wanted to get to know each other. We did move in together, and it was pretty rocky for a few years, but we made it through. After being together for six years we decided to buy our first home, and I have to say it was the best decision for our relationship we have ever done. Finally it was just us; a chance to work on us as a family with no outside voices. Being in our home together made us stronger! It's not been all peaches n cream, but it has definitely been better, and I feel like we know how to talk better to one another as well. So now eight years later we are finally getting married, & we hope you will all be there to help join in our celebration!
