Both of his parents were professional painters, so it was natural for David to follow in their footsteps pursuing art making as a life. Once he touched clay he found his medium! Primarily self taught, he has focused for many years, working with porcelain and under-glaze painting his wheel formed items with subtle floral decorations then high firing them to a luminous state.
The first Wedding Wish Vase© was a love creation for
my own wedding to Molly in 1997. We conceived the
pottery vase to receive well wishing notes prompted by
a poem that we wrote for the occasion. It was such fun
opening our vase and reading all the wishes for us from
family and friends. The notes and vase have become
cherished keepsakes from our wedding day. Vases were
commissioned to give as wedding gifts and thus it spread
across the country, one wedding at a time, becoming
many couples’ favorite wedding gift. Now, many brides
suggest them on their registry but I limit one per wedding!
David and his wife jeweler Molly Sharp live on a 4 acre artist haven named Sunburst Hollow in Zirconia, NC.
