Excited about Music, Entrepreneurship and everything Jamaica!
At night, DJ Vaun heats up the turntables as one of Jamaica’s most experienced and versatile DJs, whose skills have earned him an unsurpassed reputation in the wedding and events industry. But by day, Kevan Stewart is an astute businessman.
Since starting his DJ career in 2003, he has consistently worked at expanding from a solo freelance effort into a thriving business venture.
Today, he owns and operates multiple businesses, namely, Jamaica Wedding DJ, Reggae Tech Limited and Jamaica Tent Rentals. These event services and rental businesses are based in Trelawny, and provide DJs, MCs, sound and audiovisual equipment and outdoor event rentals to planners, companies and destination wedding couples across the island.
However, like many successful entrepreneurs, this wasn’t always the goal for the little boy from Mandeville. After high school, he began using the life skills, discipline and determination he gained from seven years of being a cadet, to pursue his life dream of being a pilot. Unfortunately, his flight was cut short and he could no longer afford to continue training.
He didn’t allow that to stop him. Venturing into the working world, he gained management, customer service and online marketing experience as the manager of a restaurant, and in Montego Bay, at E-Services and VistaPrint. Whilst doing this, he continued going to school and soon began playing as a DJ for events hosted by his mother, until he got some big news: he had a son on the way!
This became the catalyst for what we know today as Jamaica Wedding DJ. He bought more equipment to expand his DJ business, which was perfectly timed, because soon after, Kevan lost his job. This chain of events pushed him into overdrive and allowed him to focus fully on growing Jamaica Wedding DJ. Thus, another successful entrepreneur was made.
Kevan still hasn’t slowed down. He continues to pursue growth, and constantly seeks out new entrepreneurial opportunities. He believes, in the words of the great Nelson Mandela, "Everyone can rise above their circumstances, and achieve success, if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.”
