Here's just a little bit of history about The Brick Hotel on the Circle, originally known during the Civil War era as The Union Hotel.
The existing structure was built in 1836 by Joshua S. Layton and Caleb B. Sipple, builders of the Sussex County Courthouse across the Circle, and it actually replaced a Public House that stood on the site. Brick structures like this one were very rare prior to the 19th century and, in fact, less than a dozen remain in the State of Delaware! Our building is one of the few early commercial buildings remaining in Southern Delaware, and the brick used was actually made from a kiln near Georgetown. It reflects a mixture of Federal and Greek revival styles.
Located on the Georgetown Circle inside the Brick Hotel. The Counting House brings local farmers and fisherman to your table.
We are proub to feature a true leader in the craft Chef Bill Clifton. He has had a hand in several well respected restaurants in our area such as Henlopen CIty Oyster House and The Blue Hen.
You can find him next on an episode of Beat Bobby Flay airing May 2nd 2019

The Counting House recently held our wedding reception in March, and the experience was wonderful! They helped make my dream wedding come to life. The food was absolutely amazing, the staff was so kind and helpful and easy going. They made sure everything was perfect and taken care of and we could not be happier with how wonderful our reception was. I am always so happy to recommend The Counting House to anyone who asks!Sent on 04/06/2019

The Counting House hosted our wedding this past February. I could not have asked for a more helpful and beautiful venue. The food was incredible the staff was attentive and flawless. Nothing was overlooked or left to chance. I couldnt say one negative thing about my wedding. I would recommend The Counting House over and over again.Sent on 03/27/2019

The Brick Hotel and Restaurant is a hidden gem on the Eastern Shore, it is an absolute atrocity that it is not more prevalent! This venue has a much more affordable deposit for renting spaces as opposed to other locations nearby in Delaware and Maryland. We purchased an all inclusive package for our wedding and the services that they provided were excellent. My husband and I are vegetarian and they worked with us to create a vegetarian menu for our wedding. Kelly and her staff were excellent!Sent on 05/18/2017
