A Country Estate overlooking the Delaware River
The grounds sit inside Bellevue State Park; purchased by the State of Delaware in 1993; now managed exclusively by Jeffrey Miller Catering. The rich history of the property dates back to Native Americans, a Swedish farm settlement around late 1630’s and Charles Lore, Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court who purchased the working farm in 1870 and is believed to be responsible for many of the currently standing buildings. Subsequently, Daniel Cauffiel, chief legal officer to the duPont Company constructed the current Colonial Revival- style house as a summer residence from early 1920’s until its completion in 1928 and kept the property as a working farm. The house still sports the original mid-twentieth century furnishings. The fascinating house boasts a formal parlor, an elegant dining room, bright sun porches, expansive lawns, and impressive gardens to provide the perfect setting for wedding ceremonies, receptions and rehearsal dinners; in addition to offering quaint overnight accommodations in the seven bedrooms. The property also includes a newly restored Pennsylvania bank barn located within steps of the house. The extraordinary barn makes Cauffiel Estate perfect for those looking for a sophisticated-rustic venue. With an abundance of historic charm and natural beauty, the Cauffiel Estate is the ideal choice for an enchanting event minutes from I-95!
