Our Wedding at Terrapin Hill Farm
We knew we wanted to host our ceremony somewhere unique, somewhere that spoke to our values. After months of searching, we stumbled upon a photo of the farm's chapel stage on Instagram and instantly knew that was where we wanted to say our vows. Terrapin Hill Farm allowed us to get the most for our money and alleviate the stress of having so many different vendors - providing tables, chairs, linens, dishes, assistance with setting up and breaking down, and wedding packages that include an overnight stay. Brenda and Pete are delightful and helpful. Brenda offers assistance in wedding planning and Pete is able to officiate weddings on the farm - a service we utilized. Booking our wedding with Terrapin Hill Farms allowed us to spend the day focusing on what our wedding meant to us and spend the night celebrating in a way we'll never forget. We're forever thankful for our opportunity to have been married at Terrapin Hill Farm, and we're confident that you'll love this venue too.Sent on 01/24/2019

Terrapin Hill was our perfect venue
My now-spouse and I only looked at one venue in person while we were wedding planning, and we immediately knew that Terrapin Hill was the right place for us to say our vows after 5 years together. We live in Louisville, but both come from rural areas and wanted a venue outside of the city that reflected Kentucky’s natural beauty. We also wanted a venue that was inclusive, as we are both proudly queer, and my husband is transgender; we felt safe looking at THF due to their reputation and their inclusivity statement on their website.
Since we’re pretty young and had a limited budget, we were also completely sold on TH’s pricing. Ultimately, we had the farm for two full days, accommodations for several dozen people, help from TH owners and staff, bartenders, and a nightlong bonfire for less money than we would have paid in Louisville for a venue for a few hours. We also were not required to use any particular vendors, which helped us save significant money on food and an open bar. THF could absolutely be one of the many wedding vendors that unnecessarily jacks up their prices, but we felt that Brenda and Paul genuinely just enjoy hosting important and special events like weddings at their farm.
When Nic and I arrived to tour THF, Brenda showed us around on their golf cart, accompanied by an adorable older basset hound named Chester. We were so impressed by the beauty of the farm itself, with its rolling hills (with gorgeous views), many animal friends, and the structures that the Cashels have built or improved on the property. There was one moment in particular that I knew this was going to be our place: we drove up to the Chapel Stage, and Brenda explained that they had built this gorgeous structure (with a background of the woods) themselves, with lumber from the property. I saw something white hanging above the stage, and asked Brenda what it was. Her exact words were: “That’s a crystal. It was given to us on our wedding day 21 years ago, and we put it up there because it has 21 years of good marriage juju.” I knew *immediately* that these were our people.
Over the next year of wedding planning, Brenda was always prompt to respond to our questions via email, and always had suggestions when we asked for them. They even left the gate open to the farm one day so that my mother could come look at the venue, and they were fine with my parents arriving early the Friday before the wedding to set up a family dinner. At every point, the Cashels were helpful, responsive, and professional without sacrificing any warmth.
Our wedding day went absolutely perfectly, and I am sure that we have no idea just how much the Cashels and the THF staff did to help that happen. The THF staff helped direct people, moved chairs, set up our self-catered/potluck meal, bartended, tended the bonfire, and probably a dozen other things that we were too busy to notice. They also were kind enough to allow 50+ people to camp the night of the wedding, which was so much fun!
So many people told us that our wedding was the most beautiful and fun one that they’d ever been to, and we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of our ideas without the help of Terrapin Hill and the Cashels. We are not very traditional people, and we wanted to make our wedding our own: very queer and proud, community-centered, with a self-catered/potluck reception and a safe and fun option for overnight accommodations. We were able to have all of those things at Terrapin Hill.
A final note on this very long review: neither my husband nor I are very spiritual people, and most of our friends aren’t, either. However, we (and many of our people) felt a special something at Terrapin Hill that we’ve experienced only a handful of other times in our lives. There is a real sense of community and love at TH, and that was evident to absolutely everyone there. Less than three weeks after our wedding, we are already dreaming of renting out THF again for a big camping gathering in a few years! We cannot say enough good things about our wedding or Terrapin Hill. It’s a magical place!
