We're so happy we chose them as our wedding catering. We did some serious catering shopping online, at the bridal expo, through friends, and they all had a very similar vibe. But Tempted Palate Catering felt different. As my husband and I walked to our car after our first meeting, we both smiled and said, "I think we found our caterer."

Ruby felt so genuine. She was so happy to work with us within our budget on a menu that would please our guests. She provided great insight on amounts of food and dietary restriction options. We finanalized our menu, set-up payment, and coordinated venue timing. All-in-all the process was very simple and I didn't really even have to think about the catering much. Which was ideal with the 10 million other things involved in wedding prep.

The food was all set-up and ready to go for guests when we sat-down at the reception hall. Best of all, it was absolutely delicious!!! Our guests had nothing but great things to say.

Ruby was very responsive with a relatively short notice request. She designed fabulous menus with very fair rates. Food display and cake decoration were also terrific! Her value definitely exceeded the cost.

When I originally started working with Ruby she seemed amicable and easy to communicate with. I decided to book her for my wedding because of the flexibility she had to work within our budget. Pretty quickly however, I started to have concerns. She did not have a service contract, I had to ask her for one and her response was “I pull a blank one off the internet and fill it out basically.” That was my first red flag, as I don’t know how a reputable catering company wouldn’t have a standard service contract. I went ahead anyway, because she fit my budget.

Earlier on she was responsive and fairly easy to work with, but as time went on that changed. It was difficult to get clear information from her when we talked over the phone and I often ended conversations with her more confused than when it started. My frustrations with her came to a head when we had a call scheduled to discuss COVID safety measures - she called me while she was driving and was obviously distracted. When I asked her if having her staff stay to serve our buffet would be an additional cost (reasonable question I thought as some caterers include this with their services), she responded sharply and said “of course it’s going to cost you money, that’s how it works.” She then quickly said she needed to get off the phone and asked could I talk later. This was frustrating as we had scheduled this time to talk days in advance. We rescheduled for 3pm that day. 3pm came and went and I did not hear from her. It wasn’t until after 4pm that she texted me saying she had “lost track of time.” This was another red flag, if I couldn’t count on her to show up on time and show up professionally to a phone call, how could I trust her to do so on my wedding day? The call was chaotic and it became clear she was not a good fit. I wanted to do the right thing and give her an opportunity to improve, so I expressed my concerns with her. She did not try to address any of my concerns and just said she didn’t know what I meant. She did have two of her clients reach out to me to provide references, one who used her for a wedding and one who had used her for non-wedding related catering. Even still, I couldn’t shake my doubt in her. I had asked for a number of updates to our services and she never followed up with a proposal of new costs.

In the end, we booked another caterer and terminated our contact with her. Her responses from there only further confirmed how unprofessional she is and we made the right choice in finding a new caterer. She blame shifted and said “there’s been roadblocks happening and I tried to explain some details with you but you wanted nothing to do with that” (not true) and that she “just didn’t want contact with me anymore.”

That same day she told me that she mailed me a certified letter stating she was canceling our contract due to COVID and the impact that has had on the kitchen she was going to use. The letter ends by saying “Being the Professinal that I am, I have to decline your event and wish you luck in your future endeavors.” She had never once told me there may be an issue getting a kitchen, so this came as a total surprise to me. Had we not pursued other caterers, she would have left us high and dry a month before our wedding. How that is professional is beyond me.

I would not recommend working with Tempted Palate.
