About

One of only five surviving light towers in Georgia, the restored lighthouse on St Simons Island, with its original 3rd order Fresnel lens shining 18 miles out to sea, is an operational aid to navigational through St. Simons Sound. Unlike many other operational lighthouses, visitors are welcome to climb the 129 steps leading to the top of the St. Simons Island Lighthouse. Although no keeper awaits you since the lighthouse is now fully automated, the vast panorama of the Golden Isles does.

I loved every minute of my wedding and so did my guest! It rained on my wedding day so our ceremony was moved to the lighthouse under a tent! Even though I had my heart set in the beach the lighthouse was still beautiful!

I fell in love with this venue through finding it on Pinterest, and the town to go along with it. We were immediately sold, but I wished that we had done a bit more research as not even a month into our contract, we wanted to cancel.

The website notes that this space fits 150+ people, where in actuality people can sit comfortably (with a dance floor) half that amount. And, the event coordinator could not provide us actual dimensions of the reception room (there's a stage, which is not accounted for in the drawing). We had 100 at our wedding, and going into it, we didn't think everyone would have a seat at the reception. Luckily, our day-of coordinator was very creative.

The space is beautiful, yes, but the staff is incredibly unresponsive and not helpful both leading up to and the night of the event. For one, the lighthouse is in a public area, so though it is a private property, there was no enforcement by the security guard to keep people out of our wedding reception (including someone else trying to host their own wedding).

If you do book this venue, know to expect about half of what you are getting, but gorgeous pictures. Thankfully, our guests enjoyed it, but planning a wedding I would look to the Tybee Island lighthouse rather than this location.
