About
Smock is an inspired wedding invitation & social stationery line, designed by Amy Graham Stigler and sustainably letterpress printed and foil stamped on our own bamboo paper. Here, amid our cast iron presses, we believe in the creation of beautiful things. And we want, like you, to feel good about where our beautiful things come from. This means our commitment to the environment affects everything about us, from our sustainable printing to our recycled packaging to our bamboo paper. We are powered by wind energy. We give 1% of sales to environmental causes. We work hard to reduce our carbon footprint. We challenge ourselves to do better with long term environmental goals. We create our paper from pesticide-free bamboo (bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet). We are practical idealists who are trying to make the world better right now.
With 25,000 square feet of space, over 80 employees, and more than 20 antique presses, Smock belongs to one of the most established letterpress shops in the country. We perform all design, platemaking, printing, and finishing right here in our upstate New York studio. In addition to our invitation and stationery line, we can also work with your press-ready design or design custom work. We are attentive, devoted, high-service, and in love with the craft of letterpress. We offer custom letterpress invitations, letterpress announcements, letterpress stationery, letterpress note cards, save the dates, letterpress menus, programs, and more.
We’re proud to be the first print shop in the U.S. to offer printing on a luxury bamboo paper, made for us at a historic European paper mill. But why bamboo? Unlike cotton, which consumed 55 million pounds of pesticides in the U.S. in 2005 alone, bamboo grows without pesticides or fertilizer. And unlike cotton, where 87% of the U.S. cotton crop is genetically modified, bamboo is non-GMO. In addition, bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet; it generates up to 35% more oxygen than hardwood trees; it absorbs four times as much carbon as hardwood; and it can detoxify wastewater. Lastly, in addition to being sustainable, bamboo also happens to make (hands down) the prettiest paper out there.
