When my husband and I were looking for a wedding photographer I knew I wanted to have someone I trusted, and was comfortable with, because the photographer is with you essentially all day on your wedding day. Upon meeting with Kyle and Melissa they immediately felt like family, and were so familiar with the wedding process/industry (that I felt so lost in), I knew I wouldn't want to go through the process without them, regardless of the cost. Whenever Matt and I met with Kyle and Melissa, virtually or in person, we could relax because those two took care of everything from helping us figure out who to take pictures with, to creating a timeline of our wedding day. There's a twist to my wedding story; about halfway through the engagement my husband and I decided the big wedding we planned wasn't really what we wanted, so we changed everything to do a smaller wedding, which meant changing the date. I knew this twist might mean I lose my amazing photographer who took my breath away with our engagements pictures, but nope, I didn't have to worry about that either. Kyle and Melissa canceled a vacation they planned to stay and help Matt and I on our special day. Boy did they help! They got all guests where they needed to be and reminded me to breathe when I was getting overwhelmed. Melissa brought me wine as the day got busy, she was like a sister to me on my wedding day. You will want Kyle and Melissa with you on your wedding day, they have been through the whole wedding planning process with you; when you work with Kyle and Melissa you get so much more than the most talented wedding photographers, you get additional family.

Being a business owner that is a perfectionist who works in digital marketing, I had very high expectations of who my wife and I would hire for our wedding photographers. They needed to be responsive, organized, creative and take a lot of pride in the material they produce. Let me just say, we found the perfect photographers. Working with Rivas exceeded all my expectations and then some! They had an artistic view when capturing our wedding, making our photos unique and like none other than I had ever seen. Both Kyle and Melissa were amazing. They quickly became more than our photographers and felt more like lifelong friends who were helping us on our wedding day.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience going from our initial meeting to the big day! Kyle & Melissa are incredibly attentive and focused on what's important - capturing the candid photo. They asked a number of questions about our preferences and were very visible throughout the day without being overbearing.

Some of our biggest concerns were around Family photos & weather (who doesn't worry about this on their big day?). But fortunately both weather and Family prevailed and we caught some amazing photos. We never had a concern about professionalism or punctuality with this team. We could count on them to direct us to the best locations, angles, etc.

One of our most memorable photos / moments was a spur-of-the-moment idea from Kyle immediately following our vows. He caught a great shot of us leaning against a classic car as the storm rolled in.

When starting the process of wedding planning, my mother told me that finding our Wedding Photographer would be the most important decision that we would make. The photos that would be captured on our wedding day would be cherished for the rest of your lives, and be something we would hand down to our children. She explained to me that it was important to find a photographer that I felt comfortable with and who would take pride in their work.

Choosing Rivas Photography, was the best decision that we could have made. Kyle and Melissa were organized, professional, attentive and captured the most breathtaking photos that will be cherished for the rest of our lives. Not only that, but we felt as if we had known them for years. They made us feel comfortable and confident at each location on our wedding day. One of my favorite memories of working with Rivas, was when we were dodging a big rain storm. They had a plan, multiple locations, and we were able to get every shot that we wanted prior to the rain. Something that could have been very stressful, was dealt with humor and confidence. I never had a doubt in mind that we wouldn’t be able to capture great photos on our special day.

After being in other weddings and seeing other photographers work, my husband and I are constantly reminded with how blessed we were to have found Rivas. They truly will be photographers that we refer to family and friends, as well as use in the future for any photography needs. I truly can not say enough kind words about this company or this amazing duo!

We stumbled across Kyle and Melissa at a winter bridal fair - the colors in their photography were so vibrant and drew us in from across the room! I gravitated toward their display and spoke with Melissa, and I'm so glad I did! You can tell that both she and Kyle have such a passion for their work, and it shows through both their interactions with their clients and the beautiful art they create. They were so enthusiastic about our ideas and traveled with us to Sedona, Arizona where we were dying to get our engagement photos taken, and the photos turned out more beautifully than any others I had seen shot there. They also played fabulous tour guides as we embarked on an incredibly crazy off-roading experience to get to the photo location they had scoped out previously! Kyle and Melissa even had the idea to hit another beautiful spot (Horseshoe Bend near Page, AZ) where some of our favorite photos were created. They made us feel totally at ease during all aspects of our journey together – from the preparation to the shoot, and finally to the reveal day. They also have wonderfully quality professional product to choose from, so you know the products you choose to place in your home will last.

All in all, they are what I would consider Good People. So inviting, cheerful, and wonderful to be around, in addition to the unparalleled images they produce. We will be using them for every photo shoot we can think of in the future as we have learned that they are worth every penny!

My wife and I knew we were going to be very picky when it came to our wedding photographer. After all, the only thing you have after your wedding day is the photos to remember the beautiful day by. When we met Kyle and Melissa, we knew instantly that they were the right people for the job. They wanted to know us on a personal level and understand our vision for the wedding. On the day of the wedding, they were absolutely amazing!! Everything was stress free and they made it so much fun. My wife and I were blown away by their work, it turned out better than we every could have imagined and we couldn't be happier with the final product. Kyle and Melissa were perfect. We went with them for our engagement pictures and were so impressed that we booked them on the spot for our wedding.

Kyle and Melissa were prepared to shoot us at every location. They scouted ahead of time and had alternate locations in case it rained (which it did the morning of our wedding! We had to move our first look). Between the two shoots, we took some photos in some iconic (and therefore popular) Kansas City and Lawrence locations. These photos were anything but typical - Kyle and Melissa found a number of ways to make our photos unique. We passed by a few other photographers while we were shooting engagement pictures, and I couldn’t help but notice that no one else was shooting where we were.

During the reception dinner, when I imagine most photographers would take a break, Kyle was off editing a slideshow of photos from the day so far to play before our first dance. It was beautiful and we received many compliments about it from our friends and family.

Most importantly, Kyle and Melissa made us feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. They knew how to make us laugh and get us to relax. They were very helpful in the planning process and built a suggested schedule for the day. They had extra umbrellas and water bottles for us during the shoots. Kyle focused on taking the formal or “scripted” shots, and while that was going on Melissa was sneaking in candid shots.

We are going to cherish these photos forever.

I'm so thankful that we had Kyle and Melissa photograph our wedding!! We met them at a KC Bridal Spectacular show and were blown away by their stunning work. We won a free engagement photo session as a raffle prize. During our engagement session, Kyle and Melissa were so kind, professional, and a joy to be around! We loved getting to know them during the session, and appreciated how comfortable they made us feel behind the camera. Immediately after the session ended, we asked them to photograph our wedding. We didn't feel like "just another customer" to Kyle and Melissa; they took the time to get to know us, and tailored the photographs to match our style! They were invaluable during the wedding-planning process; Kyle and Melissa were able to make vendor recommendations, help with the schedule for the "day of", and give us advice for all of the "little things" that pop up! Their expertise and experience took a lot of stress off of us. I love how prepared they were for the wedding day! Kyle and Melissa had scouted extra locations for photographs ahead of time, which was GREAT because it ended up raining during our first look! Our wedding day was perfect, and Kyle and Melissa played a huge role in making the day go so smoothly. Our photographs were phenomenal, we had a really hard time narrowing down our favorites! We really appreciated how they were able to customize their wedding packages to fit what we envisioned having in our home. We had so much fun working with Kyle and Melissa!!

When my fiancee went to the bridal show in Kansas city she brought back a whole lot of papers. Going through them I came across Rivas' magazine I was BLOWN away by the quality of their pictures. I told her that we needed to book this company ASAP. Then we got contacted and we won a free engagement session. A blessing to us that the couple considering our date backed out so we got to book our dream photographers for our wedding.
Engagement session
Kyle and Melissa were so fun to work with. Our corny jokes made our time fly by and the smiles so natural. They guided you through poses and are everything seem so natural and not staged. Our engagement session went flawlessly for both locations. When we came in for our photo reveal session they had snacks plenty, including fresh baked cookies, water, popcorn, they pulled out all the stops and really showed that they cares about their clients. Which is refreshing considering the fast paced nature of a lot of other vendors. We picked our favorites(WHICH WERE AMAZING), Melissa and Kyle got our final touch ups done and our guestbook was quick to follow... after we approved it of course. Their attention to detail and need for perfection for their client is absolutely unbelievable.
WEDDING DAY
Kyle and Melissa arrived early and instantly got down to buisness. They followed their schedule(which they gave to us at a meeting, at our house to go over everything one last time. I know. AMAZING right?) to a T. They got through everything they needed to with absolutely no sense of urgency or rushiness. I actually felt like we had more time than we did. Throughout the course of the day, they weaved in and out grabbing people, snapping pictures, all while being present for the small moments that others would have missed. We made it to dinner with extra time to kill.

Kyle and Melissa are hands down the best photographers in Kansas City. We felt their work stood out from many other photographers and boy were we right?! Both of them were very professional but also treated us with love and respect while laying out their vision for our big day. It was a relieving feeling knowing you could trust your photographer, but that was an understatement when it came to Kyle and Melissa. They took a lot of stress off of me and my husband because they were very transparent with their communication and also made a timeline for our wedding day from start to finish. They also reminded us that they made a backup Plan A, B, C, and D incase of weather, wardrobe issues, or scouting issues if something potentially needed to change. One thing many of our guests continued to say throughout the wedding reception and weeks after our wedding was how hard they saw Kyle and Melissa work. They work seamlessly with each other and will work seamlessly for you.

Bottom line, you do not want someone to just take pictures for your wedding. Kyle and Melissa will capture all of the memories on the biggest day of your life!
