About

Rev. Paul Tesshin Silverman

Ordained Zen Buddhist Priest and certified Wedding Officiant.

New York based Zen Buddhist Priest supporting the rights and celebrations of all.

Rev. Paul Tesshin Silverman is the first Westerner to be named the head of a Zen Temple in Japan. As the Head Abbot of Tetsugyuji International Zen Temple in Japan I have had the honor to work with people from every imaginable culture. Living in New York for the past 13 years and in Japan the previous 13 years, I have enjoyed the constant interchange/exchange of ideas and traditions from people all around the world and from every lifestyle. Aside from my business activities, I am actively involved as an adjunct chaplain for the VA, Westchester Hospital system and a member of four interfaith groups in Westchester County. I guess I’m their token Buddhist!

I rejoice in sharing experiences with/and supporting people from all backgrounds and helping to make their dreams in life come to fruition. And in the cycle of life there are few moments more profound than marriage with one’s soul mate. Politics and traditions are interesting but at the end of the day LOVE trumps all!

It’s your weddings day!

I am very proud of the fact that all of the couples I have married to date are still happily married. We accomplished this by having a number of in-depth conversations about what the marriage commitment entails and how to manage the inevitable challenges that every couple encounters along the way. Working as a consultant with Fortune 500 companies, I have a lot of experience with listening to individual’s issues and working with them towards a productive, peaceful and loving solution. I bring this professional experience to your union as well.

Robes or No Robes that is the Question.

Together we will create a unique ceremony that expresses who you are as a couple and how you would like to begin your heart’s journey together. Simply put, Weddings Rock. So let’s figure out how to pack your special event with lots of love, smiles and outstanding memories for a lifetime.

What a day!

There are spiritual teachings that say that during the wedding ceremony one is closer to heaven and its angels than at most moments in life. I can tell you from my experience that the day is comparable to none other. It is my hope that I can help you achieve this heightened joy with your life partner. The person you will love, protect, and share the rest of your life.

Give me a call. We can start with an informal conversation and take it from there.

For couples in search of an officiant, the most important thing to understand about Paul is that his process goes far beyond the wedding day itself, and we mean that in the best of ways! Through Skype calls and face-to-face meetings, he will get to know both of you and your relationship. He will give you assignments that will push you and your partner to ask each other hard questions, plan out the rest of your lives together, and learn to appreciate each other more. He will create chances for you to reflect on not only your relationship, but on yourself. We enjoyed going through this process with Paul and kept a positive attitude throughout, and we were the better for it on our wedding day!

The wedding ceremony we had with Paul as our officiant and beautiful, heartfelt and unique; it was the result of (and the reward for) the work we'd put in. We had guests telling us how much they enjoyed the ceremony, how interesting it was, and how they could feel the emotions expressed in our words and Paul's. We would also like to add that Paul was a stabilizing force both during the main wedding ceremony and during the smaller family ceremony we held beforehand, where we thanked our immediate family members in a more private setting. On a crazy day where we were running all over the place greeting people and having our picture taken, Paul really calmed things down and managed the ceremonial aspects with practiced efficiency.

All in all, we were beyond ecstatic with our experience with Paul and recommend him highly! If you are willing to do some homework and soul-searching, you will have a wonderful experience and an even more wonderful wedding day with him as your officiant.

We couldn't have been more happy with Rev. Paul - he was fantastic! From start to finish,
we felt very comfortable, like we were working with a friend. His counseling ahead of the
wedding and his advice were all very helpful. The ceremony was exactly what we wanted,
and it really made the day special for us. We would enthusiastically recommend Rev. Paul
to anyone considering getting married!
