Great work and Great Service

It is very disheartening to see some of these reviews that are listed here. I have worked with Pope Weddings on several projects (weddings and otherwise) and have always been pleased with both the work and professionalism. I would absolutely recommend him again and again.

I was extremely pleased with Pope’s cinematic services. My (now) husband and I were very comfortable with eachother by the time our wedding day arrived because of the fact that he shot and did an AMAZING job with our engagement trailer.

Pope and his team’s professionalism and talent are unmatched, but what really set him apart from the rest was his quick turnaround time.

I imagine he stayed up 2 days straight editing the footage, because my video was ready in a couple days. Talk about instant gratification!

Jamil has a keen eye for detail and he captured, both, the intimate and emotional parts of my wedding, as well as the fun aspects! This was one of the best investments of my wedding (right up there with the planner, florals, and photography).

We were scammed too- lawyered up

Hi- I won't say too much on here but that our attorney has advised us to list both Mr. Pope and Ms. Coleman as well as Pope Weddings on our lawsuit because their business is intertwined and at the time she held herself out to be his business partner and was very much apart of the process. Whether she technically was or wasn't, what matters legally is what they portrayed to us as clients. It doesn't seem like he had or has an LLC so they may both be personally liable for the contract price, lawyer fees, and penalties. By now I know they aren't giving us our video or footage so taking the legal route is our only option, unfortunately. We also filed an incident report with the police and they tend to take seriously and investigate an active organized crime/scam matter like this the more and more people they here from. I'm not telling anyone else what to do, just sharing my experience. I'm so disappointed in my fellow HSBCU grad. We notified the vendors we worked with and our wedding coordinator of our experience. Good luck to everyone else. To engaged couples, please don't try your luck with this company, it's better to be safe than sorry. There are other Black owned options in the area. What you see on his social media is only what he allows you to see. Just an observation- also looks like race plays a factor in who he completes videos for.

Haven't heard a word from him

He hasn't been responsive to us either. Has anyone else had any headway and getting in contact with him or his female partner?

Heartbroken

This is making me cry. He did the same to us and we're so conflicted about what we should do.

Broken limbs and broken promises

Come to find out I’m not the only one he’s done this too. He told me he broke his arm, another couple he broke his foot, another couple he hurt his hip, another couple that he’s been hospitalized the whole time but he’s still doing more and more weddings and forgetting about our video and our contract. If I send him a text, he doesn’t respond. It’s the same with calling. He hasn’t offered us a refund or at least our footage, we have never seen our video, which is REALLY what we want and it’s been 8 months. He won’t even tell us when or if to expect it. According to our contract we should have had it months ago. I’m happy for the few couples who have their videos because I wouldn’t want to be in my position either but we are very disappointed. He came highly recommended by another couple. When I touched base with them, come to fine out they are still waiting too and they followed up and asked some people too. That’s how we all became aware that this is a organized scam that he’s running, same method with all of us. Smh. I hope he just finally buckles down and works hard and all hours of the day and night in order to follow through and avoid or mitigate some of the legal action. He seems way in over his head. I know someone who knows him personally as a friend and they have not seen him with any broken body parts, he’s just playing on people’s good hearts and Christian compassion. I’ve heard of wedding scammers who are photographers and videographers to take money and run/ “ghost” people after the wedding but I didn’t think that a Black man, a brother, would do the same to us. We didn’t post bad reviews before because we wanted to be patient and trusting but he does have the same method of avoidance and his storyline is the same with us. Please complete our video and send it to us man. Please. I can’t believe he did someone video from an August wedding before ours and this person says he had a turn around of a couple days while we are still waiting. It’s such a slap in the face. My heart is broken, so broken. Im literally crying my eyes out. I don’t know what else to do.

Stop supporting a scam artist!

The positive reviews only reflect a small number of families that Pope has actually completed work for. What he is doing is illegal and those supporting him should be ashamed of themselves. There are numerous families who have all come out with the same story, he takes there money and never makes a video. One couple has been waiting over 2 years. He only completes videos for those he feel are high profile or considered close to him. He’s scamming couples out of thousands of dollars at a time. For the few couples he’s produced work for, great for you but you should also be concerned that there are people just like you who want their memories. Jamil has sadden and destroyed that for many. The police have been notified because it is theft by deception, the attorney general he been notified because it’s consumer fraud. If you have a completed video, enjoy. But don’t throw it in the faces of people who have been waiting upwards of 2 years and never seen anything results at all. He deletes and all negative comments and blocked couples that inquire about their final videos. He doesn’t answer his phone for them, he ignores emails, etc. Law suits are public record and speak for themselves. The way he treats you, he should treat ALL of his clients. Please take your self-righteousness and your ability to turn a blind eye and have seat while other family cry, beg and plead for their memories of their special day. But supporting a scam artist while others are suffering and continuing to recommend him when you know that there are dozens of dozens of couples who can’t so much get him to respond, send their videos or provide refunds, shame, shame, shame on you. Don’t lead others down a path of deception. If you want to know for yourself, go down his client list and ask people if they’ve received their videos, ever. I was surprised myself how many people he’s hurt. Repent Jamil and follow through on your contracts! The number only increases as more and more families come forward. They’ve been scared out of their minds that may destroy their footage. People are HURTING!!!!! Stop taking advantage of especially Black couples who went out of their way to support a Black owned business.

Good Samaritan.

Please be advised that Pope Wedding Cinematography is currently being sued in multiple states for failing to produce wedding videos per the contract. Mr. Jamil Pope's M.O. is to post snippet highlight videos on social media, ignore client communications, say that he broke a body part, breach contracts and then disappear. Any client of his who is seeking relief should also consider filing a civil small claim suit of their own in their local county against Mr. Pope & his company, filing a complaint with your State's consumer fraud agency, and filing complaints with the BBB, warning wedding websites, and filing reviews on review websites such as google, yahoo, yelp, etc. His arbitration clause is likely invalid and unenforceable and the goal is prevent this from happening to other loving couples who are looking for a great, professional cinematography company, that of which Jamil Pope and his company are not.

I seconded guess writing this review but I don't want another couple to be in the situation I'm currently in a year from today. My husband and I hired Pope Weddings thinking we made one of the best decision in hiring them to do our wedding video. IT IS QUITE A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!!! In order to secure them for our wedding we had to pay a portion of the service cost and signed a contract (which was fine. We totally understood that). We then had to pay a fee to pay them their payment (this RED FLAG I should've taken notice of and RUN) . Weeks before our wedding we had to pay the remaining balance in full which was done (again another fee to pay them their remaining balance). Our wedding day was a good experience however, the challenge came when it was time to receive our wedding day video. Pope Weddings lack professionalism. They are very poor in the communication department. Regardless of how wrong they are, they will not 100% take responsibility. This tells me they don't value their customers, well they surely don't value me and my husband. In our case, Pope Weddings breached the contract but them and us but they didn't care. It was as if they were the ones doing us a favor. Be aware when meeting them in person, they will sell them self very well! They are very good at this but don't buy into it. For every update I needed on our wedding, it was us contacting them. Pope Weddings was almost 3 months behind and we got no common courtesy email or phone call. Almost 11 months after our wedding, we have yet to receive what we payed upfront for and we're now taking legal actions to get what is owed to you and what their contract states we should legally get . Please save yourself this headache! NO TO POPE WEDDINGS!!! After your wedding you want your wedding video so you can relive your special day, not clips (of ) of your day minus the raw moments of the ceremony itself. Then to add salt to the wound, you are not allowed to donate your videos to have as keepsake.

Please stay waway from that company. I think is just a disguise to take money from people. I had my wedding since July, and until now I can’t get my video. I’ve been calling, texting and never get a replied back. Do yourself a favor stay away from this company. If I could take one thing back from that day, is never made that mistake by going with this company
