About

The Perfect Wedding: This is the ideal location for a spectacular wedding with rooms for the bridal party and groomsmen to prepare for a magnificent ceremony followed by an elegant reception. There are dual fireplaces in the grand ballroom which features a beautiful open staircase that allows for a breathtaking entrance for the bride. The history in this residence is very memorable for many citizens and will be for years to come. This home is so unique, that when you choose it as your venue, it will become a part of a very special memory in your life.

House Characteristics: The Mackay Estate was built by Alexander Mackay, a Scottish entrepreneur and investor who bought the property on Lake Rochelle in 1915 and began construction of the Mackay family estate which he called “La Rochelle.” The estate’s 8,000-square-foot residence is an outstanding example of Craftsman style architecture, with sleeping porches and large porch columns, open interior spaces and a staircase in the main room. A walled arbor with arched openings is located west of the residence and a sunken garden with a fountain is on the east. A beautiful Gazebo has been added with a breathtaking view of the lake. The home has undergone only minor alterations over the years, and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Our future plans call for part of the building to house the Lake Alfred Historical Society meeting room and museum.

Grant Funds: Restoration and Preservation: Mackay Gardens and Lakeside Preserve was purchased in 2004 with funds from the Florida Community Trust Florida Forever program. Additionally, the City of Lake Alfred received grant funding in 2006 from the Florida Bureau of Historic Preservation to renovate the house. This allowed for the complete overhaul of the electrical system, plumbing, re-roofing, handicap accessibility, resurfacing of the hardwood floors and plaster repair. The city also received a grant from the Florida Recreational Development Assistance Program to add a playground, picnic pavilion, rest rooms, fishing pier and nature trails.

The Mackay home is available for business meetings, corporate retreats, family reunions and parties. Please call (863) 291-5272 to make an appointment to see this incredible location.

Beautiful & Historic Venue

I got married at Mackay Gardens and Lakeside Preserve (MGLP) on 05/19/2018.

MGLP is an absolutely gorgeous venue for any occasion, but ESPECIALLY a wedding.

This is the perfect venue for DIY brides who want a blank slate to create the wedding vision of their dreams.

I loved that I was not locked in to using specific vendors. I was able to use whatever vendor that I wanted. Having that kind of flexibility during a year of wedding planning was so refreshing.

The venue's point of contact, Anaeli was so patient and beyond helpful. She always responded to any questions that I had in a timely manner, and offered some great pre-wedding day advice!

MGLP will always hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to hosting another event there in the future.

Thank you, MGLP!

I found this venue through two coworkers who also got married here. They loved it and so did I. The contact Analeia was always prompt with emails when I had questions and was more than helpful. This location is absolutely gorgeous even when it rains. We got married in August so that's hot but the lake creates a breeze and the rain cools off. I will say be prepared for mosquitos but that is normal for Florida :) also the building on site is great and accommodating with faulty weather. Lovely location and I highly recommend others to use :)

What a gorgeous venue. My wedding was picturesque, and this beautiful venue was a major reason for it. I had a 1950's themed wedding, so it was really hard to find a venue that went with the theme. Once I stumbled across this place, I knew it was the one, since it had a vintage feel, but was a blank canvas to do whatever you want. We had our ceremony under the brick archway, cake cutting inside the estate, and the reception under a lighted tent. Be careful of bugs at night! Be sure to bring lots of bug spray to keep them away, if you're having the reception outside. All in all, it is a great venue, and I'm so glad our wedding was there.

This was the PERFECT venue... we had it for two days. Everything was freshly cleaned the day we got the keys. The staff there is so friendly and welcoming. The house is old but gives off a beautiful charm... the grass, trees and shrubs are all kept up very nicely. Lots of room inside... two kitchen areas for catering. We put up a tent out on the back lawn and the view of the lake and sun set were simply amazing!

We reserved our date for our wedding several years ago and had to postpone our wedding once but they were flexible and polite and always had answers when I had questions and the venue itself was beautiful and perfect for our wedding. We found this hidden treasure while geocaching and fell in love with it. We knew from the second we looked at the whole place it was where we would get married and although our ceremony had to be moved inside because of rain it still turned out amazing!!!

This venue had the perfect atmosphere for our wedding. The only downside were mosquitos that lasted about 20 minutes around sunset. The venue was extremely affordable and the staff was easy to work with, especially because we stopped by to plan often.

Beautiful venue that gave my husband and I the perfect vintage setting for our wedding. The venue staff was very helpful leading up to the big day. The only reason I rated 4 instead of 5 for responsiveness is because they would only communicate with me and wouldn't respond fully to my wedding planner, despite my request for them to do so. Not a huge deal, but it took up time from my schedule for issues my planner could have easily handled. As far as the setting- the venue itself is absolutely beautiful. Though the 4/5 rating is due to mosquitoes. I mean- a lot of them. We didn't know this would be such an issue until the rehearsal- when we were all eaten alive! After that, most of the day-of preparations were devoted to running to 4 different Home Depots to find any and all mosquito foggers/lanterns/sprays... In the end it worked out well and the bugs were only a minor annoyance to our guests (as opposed to the full-on swarm we suffered at the rehearsal the night before). Just be aware that if you go with this venue, you will have to budget for bug control! That however shouldn't be too much of a problem since the cost of the venue itself is next to nothing! We couldn't believe how inexpensive it was to rent the whole property for the entire day! I gave a 4/5 review for flexibility because we weren't permitted any "open flames." Understandable given the history of the house, but they considered oil lamps to be open flames and they would not permit us to use them, even though they expressly permit a unity candle as an exception to the open flame rule... go figure. Over all we were pleased with the venue and wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else- and our photos are BEAUTIFUL! I would definitely recommend this property- just be aware of the minor issues associated with it!
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
