A Fairy Tale Wedding
When my husband and I began planning our wedding (I'm Puerto Rican and he's American Jewish) I showed him several locations in Puerto Rico where we could do our wedding. He rejected them all saying "this is not where our dream wedding will be, I don't see it happening there". Then I showed him El Convento. He's eyes grew big and he said "This is it! This is the place! Our dream wedding will be here" and he was not far from the truth. In order to tell you about our experience at El Convento I'm going to be detailed as I can be because this was the best decision we made.Sent on 02/04/2019
Pre wedding: After signing the contract with Ely, who was great with us throughout the entire year, we had our food tasting in April 2018. As soon as we came into El Convento we were treated like royalty. We had our table in a separate room and it was basically a 5 course lunch to taste the different possibilities of menu we could have at the wedding. Everything was delicious, it was very hard to make decisions regarding food. We opted for the stuffed chicken and the steak, for soup the lobster bisque, for salad the arugula and watermelon and for midnight snack the asopao. While we ate we had a great conversation with Ely regarding what to expect during the wedding day.
Days before the wedding: When you are doing a destination wedding and have to travel days before the least you want is to have all the vendors calling you and feeling overwhelmed. The open communication the staff at El Convento had with all the vendors was impeccable! They had everything set and done before my arrival and my input at that point was no longer needed. Everything was flowing like clockwork. I felt at ease that I could focus on my guests and my future husband.
Day of the wedding: Both the ceremony and reception were done with the Staff at El Convento. As soon as it was showtime, this lady comes to me and tells me "I will be your personal server for the entire day". She wasn't kidding- from carrying my veil and train, giving me water as the photographer was taking pictures, bringing my husband and I drinks all night long, even feeding us hors d'oeuvres at the cocktail hour, she was literally our own personal server. We didn't know how much that was needed in a wedding until we saw how busy we were the entire night. We didn't even know we had a service like that included. We were so grateful with her service. Funny story- after she has been by my side throughout the entire ceremony, my husband asks "who is she?" and I explained, then he goes to her and says "so you will serve us drinks all night long?" she said "yes" and then he says "anything? even if we don't have it here in the venue?" and she smiled and said "yes", then my husband smiles and says in a shy way " can I have Don Q with passion fruit all night long?" and she said "coming right up". We loved her! She even brought him a capuccino at the wedding! The banquet manager was present at all times and all the waiters serving the tables looked like a dance, all at the same time, they all moved around the table in the same manner, everything was picked up at the same time and laid on the table at the same time. We were beyond impressed with the service and how everything was done in a timely manner. The banquet manager was at all times making sure my husband and I were doing perfect and we were served before anyone else. Wine was served at the tables and drinks at the bar. There was no waiting, ever. Ely came to us and made sure we were happy and were enjoying our wedding. I'm a very organized person and have always high expectations because that's exactly how I behave when it comes to service. I have nothing but the best to say about the staff at El Convento. If I could have a second wedding, I would do it there again.
Post Wedding: We arrived at our beautiful vintage suite. They had a little surprise for us (I don't want to ruin it for you guys that are looking into doing your wedding there) and a bottle of champagne for us to celebrate our union. The suite was right near the pool and jacuzzi and it was overlooking gorgeous Old San Juan and the cathedral. The next morning "our personal server" come up to our room to wake us up with mimosas with freshly squeezed orange juice.
What can I add? My experience with El Convento was one that i wish for everyone to experience. I know it might sound unreal, but my wedding was perfect. From the elegant, classy, historical venue, to the incredible, efficient, customer obsessed staff to simply being surrounded by the beauty of Old San Juan. This was my fairy tale wedding, my dream wedding or how my wedding guests called it "the wedding of the century".

Simply Perfection Across the Board
There are not enough good things I can say about this Hotel both as a hotel and a wedding venue. The service, food and overall experience were A+++. My wedding exceeded my wildest expectations and I had high ones! If I could do it all over again, I would 100% do it at Hotel El Convento. A truly unforgettable wedding for both myself and my guests. We will be talking about it for years to come. Would highly, highly recommend!

Ely and Diane made me feel like a queen on my wedding day!
My husband and I wanted something low-key and budget friendly. For years, El Convento had been my “dream wedding” venue. I never believed I could afford such a beautiful reception. On a whim, I reached out to El Convento’s WONDERFUL catering manager, Ely Rivera, who provided us with a flexible quote to meet many budgets.
Ely consistently worked with us via email and in person throughout the whole process. She reached out to us when our options could change. For an additional charge, she took care of booking La Rogativa via the National Park Service and provided chairs for the ceremony, plus a backup indoor room for in climate weather. I had previously attempted to contact the NPS on my own, but could not get through to anybody. Ely was able to use her professional contacts and take care of it.
Due to our budget constraints, we didn’t book flowers or any other extra decorations. We had candles as the centerpieces, and used the linens/china/chairs/etc that came with the base package. At no point did anyone make us feel like we were beneath the standards of a luxury hotel. Ely even recommended to me that we use the gold chairs to match the china, rather than simply using my first choice of white.
Ely was present on the day of our wedding and gave us all the cues we needed for walking down the isle, the grand entrance, first dances, etc. Trust me, you will need this extra help.
Another fantastic element of my wedding was Diane, our personal attendant. She is YOUR server. The entire time we were taking our photos, dancing, and socializing, Diane was there. I had no idea this was part of the package. Initially, I thought she was simply going to bring us our drinks - until she helped me change into my dancing shoes! Seriously - Does your husband want to take his jacket and tie off to dance? Diane will make sure it gets back to your room. Are you too busy and nervous to eat? Diane will make sure you have a plate wrapped up for later. Do you want to step away from the crowd to have a smoke break? Diane will find you a discreet corner. Whatever you need, ask Diane.
I cannot recommend El Convento more. Five stars, all around.
