Hotel El Convento

My husband and I got married on February 14, 2025 at Hotel El Convento (our ceremony held at La Rogativa and reception inside the hotel in Salon Campeche), and we could not have asked for a more magical venue. From the venue’s location being right in the heart of Old San Juan, to the stunning interior of the hotel and view from La Rogativa, - from start to finish, everything about our experience was exceptional! Our ceremony at La Rogativa was breathtakingly beautiful and the perfect size for our ~ 100 total guests. We received so many compliments from guests on how breathtaking the views were from this historic site and how great it was that it was just a short walk from the hotel (we even hired Pleneros to play live music for us during our walk from the ceremony to cocktail hour!). With stunning views of the ocean and the charm of Old San Juan all around us, it was the perfect backdrop for our vows. It was so intimate, timeless, and incredibly romantic. The reception was held in Salón Campeche, one of the hotel’s gorgeous ballrooms. The high windows and ceilings gave the space a grand yet warm feel, and the layout worked perfectly for our group of guests. We worked with a great wedding planner and team of vendors that Hotel El Convento recommended to use, and everything from the lighting to the table setup was thoughtfully done and we were able to add so many personal touches to our wedding - despite it being a destination for us (we are from Virginia).
The buffet dinner (Old San Juan buffet) was a huge highlight. Our guests are still talking about it! Some of our favorite dishes were the mini plantain mofongo, red snapper, and the island root escabeche – all beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. The cocktail hour and reception drinks were another standout. The hotel created amazing signature cocktails just for us, including a spicy margarita that was a crowd favorite! We loved trying our food and drinks during our menu tasting - which our awesome wedding coordinators (Nelia Sanchez and Gabriela Cortes) helped us schedule during our trip to San Juan a few months before the wedding. For getting ready, we reserved the Executive Boardroom for the bride and bridesmaids, and it was just perfect. Spacious, private, and super convenient. We were even able to order food and mimosas from the hotel kitchen throughout the day, which made the whole experience smooth and stress-free. Hotel El Convento also provided a helpful list of recommended planners and vendors, which made organizing everything from afar so much easier. The vendors we used have a ton of experience assisting with weddings at Hotel El Convento, which made things a lot less stressful for my husband and I! Every recommendation that we received from Hotel El Convento and our awesome team of vendors ended up being truly amazing. If you're considering a destination wedding in Puerto Rico, we wholeheartedly recommend Hotel El Convento! The charm and location of the venue, proximity to Old San Juan’s historic sites, bars, and restaurants, and quality of the service we received from staff made our wedding day everything we dreamed of and more!

Hotel El Convento was a dream from start to finish. Nelia and her team are truly unbeatable! They are warm, attentive, and deeply committed to making your day perfect. From our first interaction, through the tasting, and into the final moments of the night, everything was seamless. The hotel staff is top-notch, not only during the wedding but throughout the entire stay. Their constant attention to every detail and need is admirable. The food is incredible, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere is iconic. They make you feel as special as you should on your wedding weekend and treat you better than family.
We loved working with Nelia so much that we also hosted our welcome event at their sister property, Hotel Palacio Provincial. You cannot go wrong with planning your wedding or any event here!

The courtyard at Palacio Provincial (Sister hotel to El Convento) was a beautiful venue for our rehearsal dinner. We rented both the indoor sitting room/conference room and outdoor courtyard space, as well as a rental tent outside for part of the courtyard. Not only was the outdoor space gorgeous and large enough to easily hold our 80+ guests, the indoor space and tent both came in handy when we were blessed with a bit of surprise rain. We had more than enough catering through the hotel's kitchen and the staff quickly pivoted to bring the food indoors when the rain started. This venue was perfect for our rehearsal dinner and would also be great for a wedding, 10/10.

Hotel El Convento is truly something special, but what made our wedding experience absolutely unforgettable was Nelia and her incredible team. From start to finish, they were outstanding—warm, attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely excited to celebrate with us.

The level of care and attention from the staff was unmatched. Every interaction felt personal, every detail intentional. They didn’t just host our wedding—they celebrated it with us. Nelia and her team went so far above and beyond, adding the sweetest pink “Easter eggs” and hidden details throughout the hotel to honor our big day. Those little touches meant everything and made the entire experience feel magical.

You could feel the joy from everyone involved. The staff was not only professional and seamless, but truly happy to be part of our wedding weekend. That kind of energy is rare, and it made such a difference for us and our guests.

We cannot say enough about the wonderful team at Hotel El Convento. From our very first interaction, they treated us and our families with genuine care, patience, and professionalism. They are attentive to every detail, always willing to answer questions, and clearly dedicated to making every wedding perfect. Any couple would be lucky to work with such a thoughtful and committed team (especially Nelia!!)

Hotel El Convento was a love at first sight location; none of the other venues that we toured in VSJ nor other western parts of the island lived up to the charm that Salon Campeche offered. We got married at the Catedral de San Juan Bautista right across the street which made Convento even more appealing. We worked with Nelia Sanchez Ramos from beginning to end and I could not have been happier with her responsiveness, kindness, and professionalism! Every member of the staff that we and our guests interacted with were extremely nice and accomodating.

It was also so nice to be able to have food and alcohol on site; additionally, Convento is very well known in VSJ and by floral, decor, planners, and music vendors making the process a lot smoother.

I could not reccomend having your wedding here more, yes of course it is pricey but you get what you pay for and the final product shows! It brought tears to my eyes seeing how beautiful the venue turned out and multiple guests told my husband and I that this was the best and most beautiful wedding they had been to.

El Convento is a stunning property in old San Juan, Puerto Rico. I reached out to them last minute and they had an opening for the exact day that I needed. They were very orderly, despite the rushed time frame. I was worried never having seen the property how it would all turn out, but my event managers made the distance feel obsolete by doing online taste testing and sending my photos of the space. Gratefully the least stressful part of my whole wedding was celebrating at El convento. It genuinely was the most fun and peaceful part of the whole day. Plus, you cannot beat the history and Spanish architecture of the property. My husband and I were able to get a wide variety of photos in and around the venue. I would get married here again in a heartbeat!

From day one, the staff guided us through every step of the process, making everything feel smooth and stress-free. They were incredibly attentive to every detail and made us feel special and genuinely cared for. The food was absolutely delicious — beautifully presented, fresh, and high quality. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks were equally impressive, with great taste, thoughtful presentation, and top-shelf ingredients. The suite was stunning (Gloria Vanderbilt)— spacious, elegant, and perfect for getting ready and winding down. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

A very special thank you to the Senior Catering Manager, Nelia, who was kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful from day one. She shared some of the most valuable and honest tips throughout the planning process, and her support made all the difference.

We hosted our wedding reception at Hotel El Convento on July 4, 2025, and it was truly a dream come true.

From start to finish, Nelia, our event coordinator, was absolutely perfect. Planning a destination wedding from outside of Puerto Rico could have been overwhelming, but Nelia made everything seamless. She was incredibly attentive, patient, and responsive—always taking the time to answer questions and work through details over phone and email. Her care and professionalism made all the difference.

The cocktail hour and reception food were outstanding. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about how delicious everything was. The drinks were strong, refreshing, and kept everyone in high spirits throughout the night.

We chose Salón Campeche for the reception, and it was breathtaking. The historic charm and romantic ambiance were unforgettable—our guests are still talking about how beautiful the space was.

A huge shoutout to Ariadne from KAZ Events—she was phenomenal. Ariadne kept everything running smoothly and made sure every detail of the night unfolded flawlessly. Her calm presence, professionalism, and ability to manage the flow of the evening allowed us to relax and truly enjoy the celebration.
