Hagley Museum and Library is a romantic wedding and events venue situated in Wilmington, Delaware. Nestled along the banks of the Brandywine River, this 235-acre site was originally a family home. Today, this historic venue awaits with its old-fashioned designs, enchanting gardens, and breathtaking atmosphere.

Facilities Offered

Hagley Museum and Library offers indoor and outdoor spaces for your special day. The museum's mansion features vintage lanterns, benches, and a large botanical display above. The rest of the property features an uncovered patio where you and your sweetheart can exchange vows or enjoy a lovely champagne toast. This patio is also ideal for photoshoots with grand architecture and picture-perfect sunsets in the background. Another outdoor setting includes the manicured lawn, which you may decorate with string lights, a large tent, and more. You may also explore the barn's rustic accents or dine in the Soda House's auditorium.

Hagley Museum and Library's Special Events Team will be delighted to assist you with your engagement party, wedding shower, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception. These wedding events may include civil unions, elopements, second weddings, interfaith ceremonies, and religious celebrations. In addition to coordination services, we will be delighted to introduce you to a variety of trusted vendors for your big day. Beautiful venue with professional staff.

I cannot say enough about Alisha Fox, she has been a pleasure to work with as we planned and executed our wedding event. She is knowledgeable, courteous and professional at all times. She was responsive to all my questions and was absolutely lovely in person.

Beautiful Wedding Venue

Had our wedding here on 6/4/22 and absolutely loved it! Gorgeous venue and Alisha was so helpful throughout the entire wedding planning process. She answered all of my questions and got back to me so quickly, which made wedding planning a lot easier. Loved every minute of my wedding at this venue and I cannot recommend it enough. Also, the soda house is fairly priced compared to many others we looked at in the area so we were able to have our dream wedding without breaking the bank!

A Seriously Underrated, Flexible, Hidden Gem of a Venue

This was the best venue for a COVID wedding and in general because it's SO flexible. Our original plan was an indoor wedding, but because of COVID, we moved it outside without a problem. You can rent a part of the Soda House for cheaper or you can rent the entire building. There are three rooms, one of which is a large auditorium which is wonderful for acoustics. You can have as little people as you want, which worked for us because other venues had minimums. This venue is a canvas where you can have your dream wedding and the estate is gorgeous. Driving into the venue was always a treat since it was so lush and green on the way. You can also rent their shuttle for a small fee so you can take pictures all around their very large grounds. Even though it's a museum, the venue is also secluded and you will not have anyone intrude your party. The cherry on top is the venue coordinator, Alisha, who is so sweet and responsive. The venue is historic and has some rules like no open flames indoors, but she will accommodate as much as she can. The staff is very COVID conscious and they take safety seriously, so we felt we were in good hands. If that didn't convince you, the museum is involved in the community and it's nice knowing that we helped contribute to a well-meaning non-profit (Though the event space itself doesn't feel like a museum, which was also important to us). We are endlessly grateful to the staff and this hidden gem!

Professional service, beautiful venue

We recently had a smaller wedding (72 guests) at Hagley with the ceremony and reception on-site at the Soda House. The day was perfect from start to finish! I worked closely with Alisha, the events manager, and couldn’t have done it without her and the on-site manager, Bob. The venue/building is beautiful for a wedding less than 100 guests with a great price point. I would absolutely recommend Hagley for your wedding!! Service and location is terrific!

The moment we stepped out on the patio we knew we were in love with Hagley. The first thing I have to mention is what an amazing value it is. The Soda House and grounds are absolutely gorgeous. We knew all of our guests would just not be able to stop oohing and ahhing and we were right. We were hearing for days how beautiful it all was. I can't even begin to describe how our wedding photos look like a fairy tale. Heather and Dot were absolutely amazing and professional, so responsive. They were able to answer all of our questions, found my photographer when she got lost, and were available at every turn. The Soda House was a beautiful place to get ready at, the deck out front was perfect for the cocktail hour and most wonderful of all was the spot where we had our reception, down by the river. The staff here really does work seamlessly together and I couldn't be happier to have gotten married here.

Our wedding at Hagley was wonderful! Heather and her staff were so nice and accommodating (and so great to work with)! I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for venue a non traditional wedding venue where you can take amazing wedding photos.

Hagley was the perfect setting for our wedding! Heather and her team were super helpful in creating the perfect day. They are flexible and open to new ideas. Working with them we were able to incorporate some new features that really brought it all to the next level - we shuttled our guests to the visitor's center, where they transferred to Hagley buses for a short tour of the grounds. It was a wonderful touch for our out of town guests. We also worked with Toscana (the exclusive caterer) to bring in vintage rentals for a rustic, romantic setting that really optimized the space provided. I can easily say that between the two vendors, there were no headaches I was sure would come my way during planning process! They really made it all happen for us with no stress!

Mike and I absolutely loved our venue at Hagley! Heather and Dot were wonderful and super sweet people to work with. They also were very professional and a lot of help the day of the wedding. The venue and even the catering staff were awesome. I really have no complaints on anything that they did. It was relaxing and less stress on Mike and I. I think they enjoyed our day as much as we did and we would recommend to all our friends! :)

My wedding at Hagley was PERFECT! The team at Hagley responded to all of my questions and did everything they could to field all of our requests. The garden was absolutely gorgeous for our ceremony, and the Soda House was a wonderful choice for the reception. It was lovely having the cocktail hour outside. Toscana did an amazing job on the food, too! My family and friends have all been saying that this was an unforgettable experience for them.

Having photographed a few weddings at the Hagley Museum now, I can say their staff and venue are first class. The setting and grounds are absolutely beautiful, and the options as a photographer are seemingly endless. The grounds are so large they have a guide to help you around the grounds. The staff at the ceremony and reception sites really are terrific as well. There's great communication from the start, and they make sure we know about everything that's planned for that day.
