About
On WeddingWire since 2023
Groove Kitchen Band is a red-hot Seattle, Washington-based dance/show band comprising some of the Pacific Northwest's finest entertainers. Our band specializes in classic R&B dance hits, pop, dance music, and beyond.
Services Offered
In addition to the dance band, we have played hundreds of gigs as a straight-ahead jazz band and a Latin jazz band, and we even played several Great Gatsby theme parties and Ballroom dancing swing events. With our background in Latin jazz, the Groove Kitchen might suddenly transform into a salsa band! For this reason, we can offer an elegant vocal jazz dinner or cocktail set and then morph into the thumping dance band and get down on it later. We love to play weddings. We love the experience of making a magical day as memorable as possible and creating an experience that nobody will ever forget.

Pianist Yogi McCaw brings a unique and very diverse perspective to composing and performing. In addition to playing with Groove Kitchen for 12 years, he and drummer Ed Mays have been collaborating in bands and projects since 2005. This all started when Ed wandered over across the street and joined Yogi's Latin Jazz band who happened to be rehearsing. This morphed into an Indian Jazz project, The Yoginis. Over the years the two collaborated in countless jazz, blues, reggae and even African bands.
Bassman Marvin Shields Jr. is a consummate professional. His lead and backup vocals add a lot to the band. A multi-instrumentalist who can play bass, guitars, drums, and sing, Marvin is also highly sought after and his mastery of style gives the band the “old skool” funk sound we need but he can play just about anything, thus maintaining the versitility that is the Groove Kitchen tradition.
