A true blank slate venue you can make your own

I am so glad I went to a wedding here nearly ten years ago, otherwise I never would have known it existed. The venue fee is incredibly reasonable for what you get, gorgeous marsh/water views with indoor and outdoor space (including a covered outdoor deck-we used this area for dancing and it was good to know we would have a dance floor rain or shine) and complete freedom to really make your wedding your own.

There is no "preferred" (read: mandatory and expensive) caterer. There is no "preferred" florist or DJ or cake baker or wedding planner (although the venue's go to person, Chance, was awesome and very responsive to all our questions!). The venue is a true blank slate, leaving you almost (with some very reasonable rules) complete freedom to make your wedding your own. Some couples may consider this a negative because it's a lot of work researching and selecting your own vendors and finding staff to work your wedding, we considered it a huge, HUGE plus as we could pick exactly what/who we wanted. The theme of our wedding was "our favorite things." We picked our favorite restaurants to cater, our favorite drinks to serve, our favorite flowers and music and desserts and decorated the venue exactly as I'd envisioned it. No other venue that we looked at allowed us nearly this much flexibility and control. The result was an absolutely stunning (if I do say so myself) wedding that was a real reflection of us.

Other than the venue's fee you can make a wedding here as inexpensive or as expensive as you want so it's a great option for a wide variety of budgets. We splurged on flowers, tablecloths, decor (rented through the venue, they have some great options, we spent a little extra here!) and rented chairs because we had a certain vision in mind, and obviously the more you put into it the more you will get out of it, but none of that was really necessary because the area is so beautiful on its own and the venue comes with reception tables and chairs already.

Thank you so much Goldbug for making our wedding so special.

Good Venue, Beautiful Views

Good Bug Island is the perfect place for a wedding. Offers outdoor and indoor settings for just one flat rate, no additional costs. Easy to work with, offer setup options and rental equipment (this is an additional cost). Tables and chairs are included in the price. The outdoor space offers a gorgeous view of the ocean inlet.

Highly recommend Gold Bug Island

This venue is not as well known as some of the others in the Charleston area, but it is a much better value. The views are incredible. We were able to have our wedding, yard games, cocktails, dinner and dancing all at the same location. The venue is flexible regarding catering and are great to work with. I highly recommend using this venue if you have the opportunity.

Fantastic wedding venue

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Gold Bug Island and it couldn’t have been anymore perfect. The views are amazing and the venue is very flexible with decorations and catering. Very easy to coordinate with and responsive!

We used Goldbug for our wedding ceremony and reception. The outside ceremony was beautiful and I'm so happy we chose this as our venue. We considered a beach wedding but this was much more elegant and easier to have a ceremony of about 50-60 people right next to the water. The team at Goldbug helped us with setup and decor and they were so easy to work with, responded quickly and it was everything we could've asked for. Very reasonable pricing, plenty of parking and easy to get to.

Great Location and Beautiful Views. I'll be having my wedding here in the fall. Very Affordable but also elegant with marsh views and. I've seen and been to previous events here that were beautiful, and with my fiance being from Sullivan's island, it seemed like a perfect choice.

Gold Bug Island is a fantastic option for those who are looking for flexibility with catering. That's initially what drew us to them. But the backdrop of the marsh and being secluded was amazing! Plenty of parking for guests and great for a wedding! Then venue also has a great variety for rental items. We used the swag lighting with was the icing on the cake for the look we were going for :)

A great Venue for those who want to make the wedding 'their very own'. You have the shell and can make it as fancy as you want or save your money for other things. The setting in the back of the venue is beautiful with the bridge, marsh and we paid extra for the Arbor and it really pulled everything together. Cherry and Phyllis were very helpful and helped me plan from out of town.

We loved that we were able to do the ceremony and reception in one! The view is beautiful and you can definitely work with the space to make it beautiful for a wedding! The venue was relatively inexpensive and it left money to be used on decor and such! However, the people who run it are constantly reminding you that you have to be out by the end of the night (there is rarely a venue that allows you to keep vendor items and decor over night). We were also made to feel that we should use their decor other than our own (again constantly reminded that all of our decor needed to be gone by nights end). However, it was worth the money!
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
