Enveloped by lavish gardens and woodlands, the Glen Manor House is a historic estate situated in Portsmouth, Rhode Island that is ideal for hosting weddings. This French-style chateau graces the banks of the Sakonnet River and its natural vistas create a magical ambiance. It has provided the backdrop for an array of films and photoshoots, in addition to being a storybook venue for nuptials.
Facilities and Capacity
Soirees held at the Glen Manor House are given a romantic setting that seems straight out of a novel. The mansion possesses a dining room, ballroom, terrace, and library where couples can celebrate their commitment, in addition to the grounds, weather permitting. There are two suites for the wedding party’s final prep and photos. The entire estate is decorated in a classic, French style, with marble fireplaces and understated molding. Between May and October, the estate can host up 175 individuals. November through April, the capacity varies, and the location is closed mid-Feb through March.
Services Offered
The Glen Manor House offers an in-house inventory of gold Chiavari chairs, white garden chairs, and tables available for rental. Russell Morin Catering & Events is the exclusive caterer and venue manager. Vendors are granted up to three hours prior to the wedding for setup. Your dedicated Russell Morin Event Production team will be onsite to assist with logistics, offer trusted vendor recommendations, and support you throughout the planning process to ensure a seamless event.
History
Completed in 1923 by the Taylor family on the former Glen Farm, this estate served as a vacation home for the family. They hired the famed John Russel Pope, who designed the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC, as the manor’s architect. He based the building off the French Petit Trianon at Versailles. In 1959 the family sold the estate and its 43 acres to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, who ran it as a school until 1972. It was finally taken over by the Portsmouth Historical Society, who formed a group that now runs it for its current event purposes.

The food and drinks were amazing. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about the passed apps and the signature cocktails — total hits.
The staff was awesome too. Our bridal attendant was especially amazing — she made sure we always had a drink in hand and brought us snacks throughout the night without us even asking.
Glen Manor also packed up extra cake, food, and even our keepsakes for us, which was such a thoughtful touch. It let us enjoy everything all over again the next day — which was perfect.
The team pulled off a super fast setup for our outdoor ceremony. It had been raining, but the second the sun came out, they jumped into action and totally made it happen. It was exactly the ceremony we dreamed of.
Huge thanks to Emily, Daniel, and Liz — they were amazing throughout the whole planning process and on the day of. They answered all our (many) questions, helped us navigate every decision, and even rolled with some last-minute changes. Everything ran so smoothly, and a ton of our guests (and our parents!) told us it was the best wedding they’ve ever been to — especially because of the great service.
We seriously can’t recommend Glen Manor enough. The food, the staff, the little details — everything was perfect. 10/10. Thanks so much to every single person that played a hand in making our day SO special.

The Glen Manor House is one of out all time favorite venues to host weddings and events at here in the Newport area! Once you walk on property it is just a feeling of elegance and almost magical with their stunning gardens and jaw dropping architecture! On top of all, Katie is also just lovely to work with!
Delightfully set overlooking the Sakonnet River, with beautifully maintained gardens, the classical French chateau Glen Manor House is a great setting for weddings. It is always a delight for me to officiate at wedding ceremonies at Glen Manor. The manager, Katie Wilkinson, keeps everyone and everything on track and maintains a friendly, welcoming smile that makes everyone feel at home.
Beautiful English garden setting. Excellent staff. Beautiful views and a location for outdoor ceremonies.
