About

Donya Photography is geared towards a strong photojournalistic and candid sense of photography, where we work as documentary photographers to capture those special moments in your day, moments in their most natural settings. We are professionaly trained, having worked for nationally circulated newspapers, and draw on that experience to capture your wedding!

Now for the fun stuff, the about me section. My name is Deeba Yavrom. I suppose I can spend this part of my website talking about how I love photography, how it’s a passion of mine, how I started by finding my dad’s camera tucked away in a closet when I was younger, and that it was love at first sight....and although all of this is the total cliche of wedding photographers, it’s all true. But more imporantly, its how I cemented myself as an established photographer that really matters, not how I started out. I strive to focus on documentary photography and have completed many projects in that realm. I have also been a photojournalist for major newspapers such as the Oakland Tribune and the Miami Herald.

I’m a pretty relaxed guy, I like to laugh and like to make people laugh. I love my job. Why you may ask? What other person gets to say they get to do what they love doing, get paid for it, and do it on someone else’s wedding day, easily one of the happiest days of their life. Weddings are all about smiles, good fortune and joy. Sweet gig if you ask me. And this is exactly the attitude I take going into a wedding, and this is exactly what I try to capture. The job that I give myself is to allow you to remember your wedding day, but more so, to relive it. When you see your photos, I want you to feel like you're back there, eager and excited to marry the one you love. To remember the laughs, the quirks, the people, the feelings, the atmosphere, and the intangibles that only you experienced. If I did that, then I consider my day a successful one.

If this is what you want to experience with your wedding, please do not hesitate to contact me and we can, together, make your wedding one to remember!

I am writing this review for Donya Photography because I wanted everyone to know how amazing Deeba is as a photographer. His work on my Traditional Vietnamese Engagement Ceremony has brought so much pride and joy to me and my family.

The Traditional Tea Ceremony is a series of events, that is full of customs and colors, unfolding within a 40-45 mins time frame. The photographer has to be quick thinking on his feet in order to capture those intimate moments unraveling in front of him/her. On top of that, he/she has to have an intimate knowledge of the procedure as well. And Deeba did exactly just that. And all that was given to him was a written procedure from me about a month before the event. That is the true mark of a professional.

As for the quality of Deeba's work, I couldn't be any happier. We love his photo-journalistic approach. Every single picture looks so natural and is full of energy and emotion. It feels like he was documenting our event for a newspaper or magazine.

And finally, the best part about having Deeba as your photographer on your special day is that you will barely notice that he is there. He is not the type that will try to take charge and create shots just for the sake of doing it. He is more the type that stays behind the scenes and be as unobtrusive as possible. That is why most of his pictures have such an organic feel to it.

In general, if you would like someone who is pleasant, humble, and unobtrusive to be the person that capture all of your intimate moments on your special day, Deeba from Donya Photography is your answer.

We looked at a large number of photographer's work prior to booking, and we were struck by how fantastic all of Deeba's work was (which seemed to me one of the most crucial steps in choosing a photographer). We were planning from afar, so we had to work through email and phone, and he was prompt to respond and was flexible enough to help us put together a package that worked for us. The day of the wedding he and his 2nd shooter were fantastic - they were quick, organized, worked with my maid of honor to make sure everything on my "must shoot" list got taken care of, and during the ceremony and party took tons of amazing photographs all without being obtrusive (a thing that drives me bonkers at most weddings). We got the edited photos back within the quite reasonable time frame agreed to in our contract, and they were all absolutely fantastic. Deeba was a pleasure to work with, I'd happily recommend him to anyone.

Everybody seems to know a wedding photographer. But most of them fit into the categories of either A) Super expensive or B) So mediocre that you might as well just ask your Uncle Bob to bring his camera. Donya Photography is that rare type that is not outrageously expensive, but the photos are still outrageously beautiful.

Deeba and his second shooter, Aysha, did an excellent job of capturing our wedding. Deeba has a talent for capturing candid moments perfectly. He really seems more like a photo journalist than a wedding photographer. It is quite special to have pictures with genuine emotions, smiles, and interactions. He was also really great with the posed shots he did with just me and my husband. He had an eye for the perfect locations and situations. I felt like he really captured the dynamic between us and made us look great. He is not as enthused to do group posed pictures. He will kindly do anything you request, but you have to ask - he is not going to go out of his way to make sure there is a shot of you posed with your great aunt so and so unless you request it.

I highly recommend Donya Photography. Not only is Deeba professional and talented, but he is also warm and kind which makes it an added pleasure to work with him.

Deeba did a fantastic job photographing our wedding! We never knew he was there yet he captured everything beautifully. We didn't really have a plan or location for our "couple" pictures between the ceremony and reception, but he knew the area and found some amazing backdrops for these pictures. I couldn't have been happier! He was very creative in lighting and framing and also captured a lot of the little details and decorations that I planned but was too busy to enjoy at the time! I love going back and looking at all of the amazing pictures. I would recommend him to anyone!

We had a pretty large weddingin San Francisco about a year ago and we hired Deeba from Donya Photography to shoot it for us. He came on with a second shooter and what mattered to us the most was not having photographers to come in and think its their wedding. Deeba was nothing like that.. He was very amicable, kind and friendly, but definitely a hard worker, that was easy to see. Whenever we would look up, he'd be shooting something and as someone who is paying for a service, you really appreciate that. His photos were fantastic btw. He has a great sense of timing and making things look pretty, getting these shots that we never even imagined. Our photos are just a large set of laughter and great times, and were happy to have these photos to look back on when were older.

Hiring a wedding photographer was a pain for us, since we would interview and interview but we never clicked with anyone. We met Deeba at a nearby Starbucks and really got along well with him. He's a nice guy, with a strong professional photography background which we really appreciated. Part of the problem was we would interview people who call themselves photographers, but didn’t have the photos to back it up. Deeba did. We hired him and he took care of the rest. He came to our wedding, took god knows how many pictures since it always looked like he was snapping away, and honestly we are sooooo happy with the photos he gave us. I guess what I liked the most was how seamless it all was, and for those who are planning their weddings themselves, the less stress factors you have, the better.
He also wasn’t pushy or overbearing. He swore that he's nt that type at the wedding, which concerned me because I thought you needed to be to get great shots, but that wasn’t the case at all. Deeba was what he calls to be “a fly on the wall” and as a result, took some awesome photographs when none of us were even paying attention. Also his shots of just my hubby and I were like pairings, we loved 'em!

Donya Photography photographed our wedding this past Spring, and I couldn’t be happier with the whole process. In a world where wedding nightmares seem to be a commonplace, Deeba at Donya Photography was an incredibly kind and accessible photographer, always quick with emails and questions. The process in hiring him was as simple as can be, and as pleasant. As far as his photographs go, they were fantastic! We really wanted a photo-journalistic style to our photos, so we were looking for someone with a professional photography background, which Deeba had shooting for newspapers. (you should check out that work, its awesome! www.deebayavrom.com) What Deeba did was manage to stay unnoticed for the wedding, yet come out with these photos that brought us straight back to our wedding day. Its been 6 months and when we look at our photos, we remember all the “moments” that we feel other photographers wouldn’t have gotten. Suffice it to say, our experience with Deeba was as great as can be and we highly recommend him for any wedding!!

Donya photographed our small wedding in July 2010. We loved the pics on his website and felt they had a very photo-journalistic quality, which is what we were looking for. We asked him to be a "photographer at our wedding" instead of a "wedding photographer" and he did just that! He captured the most beautiful candid moments. Nearly every shot we were given (over 300) were beautifully framable. We also had some posed shots to please the family and those worked well, also. Deeba was super professional, always responsive, dressed appropriately for the occasion, and truly, I don't even remember seeing him shooting beyond the posed portraits! He just stealthily captured little, intimate moments! We get so many compliments on our photos, even now two years later (they're on our Facebook page.) Would highly recommend Deeba at Donya Photography!

Deeba photographed our wedding in Oct 2011 and man did he go the extra distance for us. We had an early wedding ceremony and the bride and groom (me) were separated in different hotels. We were not on location because we were being chartered in by bus to the church. Deeba was able to work with the not only the charter bus schedule but able to time the distance between hotels to get all the shots.

Very laid back yet still professional! His shots are less artsy which my wife and I preferred and he did a great job capturing some nice moments during the reception like the conga line which he had to participate in. Haha. :)

Deeba was recommended to us by a friend of mine who's wedding Deeba was the photographer for. He gave a stellar recommendation so we called him right away.

One of the very first things Deeba told us was he did not like to do the typical "posey" wedding pictures. He liked to capture real moments happening rather than asking people to stand and smile. Which is one thing we really liked. We were both camera shy, and impatient when we are made to pose.

He is very discrete while he is working. He likes to try and stay behind the scenes and you would almost forget that he is there, but still manages to get all the shots he needs to get. That said, he is very courteous. When my wife had her brief "bridezilla" moment he was nice enough not to take pictures of that situation and waited patiently until she snapped out of it.

We would also like to commend him for dressing appropriately, we have seen photographers that would come in jeans and t-shirt which kinda ruins the mood if your going for an elegant formal event.

After the wedding Deeba was extremely quick getting the photos edited and sent out to us. Which was perfect because we were able to inform him of some revisions we would like for him to do, which again he dealt with quickly.

We highly recommend Deeba Yavrom. And would hire him in a heartbeat if ever we need a professional photographer again.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
