No Respect For: The Profession of Event Planning, Clients, Self-Respect

This is a long overdue review. Due to how horrible the experience was with this vendor, I didn't want to give anymore of my precious energy or time in revisiting the unfortunate encounter, but placed it on the altar of prayer and moved on. However, fast forward with evolving views and the incident being brought back to my remembrance today as I was researching new vendors, I felt compelled to inform the public about this encounter to hopefully prevent a similar situation from occurring, should this vendor ever come across your radar. For full disclosure - please carefully note that although I used Gig Salad to hire a different vendor (a comedian) for the same event, the Christian Comedian was the epitome of professionalism. At the time and called CPerfections, this business was not listed as a vendor on Gig Salad in 2019, this may also explain fast forward 5-6 years later, why this is the vendors first review! CPerfections Event Planning is the same company per the owners same name and same contact number.
*Although I reside out of state, I had a good handle on the type of market I desired to work with as my first choice of choosing a highly professional and experienced event planner/coordinator with the level of sophistication required to meet my standards for a milestone 80th celebration of life for my mother in law were all predominantly located in Atlanta, GA, which unfortunately was four hours away from the venue and due to unexpected circumstances that took place during the final planning stages of the event with a different and “incompetent” local event planner” who was equally disastrous, selected by a different family member left my husband and I with a very serious/narrow time constraint to work with. To my great misfortune, while scrambling to locate an additional event planner, I stumbled upon CPerfections, another small town local business located closer to the venue.
*FIRST RED FLAG, after explaining the vision for the event which at the time was scheduled to take place on 09/28/2019 and the scheduling crunch, Carmenlita Parks gave off desperation vibes regarding payment by not addressing the vision or plans presented to her beyond stating she could commit until she received her first payment. This was odd based upon my experience working with other event planners as it is customary during this type of consultation to listen and provide input to a client, before a retainer is ever signed and before a payment is made. Unlike most professional event planning businesses I previously vetted in Atlanta, GA - who offered their clients a variety of payment options using different forms of payment, she only offered cash, Zelle and debit cards - no checks. Two Zelle payments were made to CPerfections on 09/20/2019 and on 09/26/2019.
*SECOND RED FLAG, on the payment contract, GA State taxes were missing as I did inquire with Carmen about this and requested an itemized invoice. Although I received a receipt, the itemized invoice request fell on deaf ears and I never received an itemized invoice. I believe from the stress and pressure of rushing to locate another event planner at the eleventh hour, travelling from another state, work with other vendors for this event, with all that I was juggling, in my haste I neglected to give this red flag the serious attention it warranted at the time. I later learned: In the state of Georgia, an Incorporated/LLC legal business set up and operating under the banner of Event Planner is required to charge sales tax on tangible personal property you provide to your clients - flowers, decorations are a few examples.
*THIRD HUGE RED FLAG, I soon discovered that this unprofessional outfit/CPerfections was unethically running her gig from her daytime job, sending and receiving material from the address of her employer. Hindsight, the contract never listed an address for this business and upon viewing this businesses social media platforms, you will not see an address listed for CPerfections, which is highly unusual.
*Some of the classic vintage touches and items I requested, discussed, and sent detailed information on to Carmen, with the expectations of bringing the vision to fruition for two large tablescapes were missing from the tables on execution day. Carmen failed to execute as both completed tablescapes were underwhelming lacking the elegance and sophistication expected, completely missing the mark. It was a huge disappointment. In the end, I had to personally rearrange some of Carmen's work and remove two of the tacky prompts she used for one of tables as decorations.
*The earlier picture of some of the table prompts Carmen sent to me were misleading for when I saw these prompts in person, they were of poor quality, cheap looking and a major let down.
*Carmen was also late arriving at the venue on the day of the event and never extended the professional courtesy or decency to call and inform me that she would be late.
*When Carmen did arrive at the event - LATE, she never took to standard business protocol to professionally and formally introduce herself, in which this conduct was appalling and at the height of unprofessionalism. After my husband took the initiative in approaching Carmen and professionally introduced himself, she had no explanation or answers for why she did not extend the professional courtesy of contacting his wife or him to let us know she would be arriving late when she was asked. At that point, I wanted nothing more to do with this unprofessional individual, as she was already paid in full and there were legitimate concerns at the time regarding if she would even show up and fleece us out of money. I wanted her to do her job and to quickly leave. At my expense she failed at successfully performing a service she was hired and paid to do. It really pains me to state this, but it most certainly applied in this case, CPerfections/Ms. Carmen Parker was not ready for "Professional Primetime” and at best was running a no class ratchet operation that had much to learn about professional business etiquette. I can only hope that after all of this time, she hopefully has matured and perhaps invested in taking a few 101 business customer service courses in concert with hiring a professional business coach to educate her on business etiquette, the nuances and skills deemed necessary to operate and run a legitimate/professional business, especially in this highly competitive service oriented industry.
*In case you're wondering, if after all this time that has passed, if Ms. Parker ever experienced self reflection, a self awareness moment or a come to Jesus epiphany about her “Southern Inhospitality” and downright crass behavior, don't hold your breathe. I must sadly inform you, to date the owner has never expressed regret nor apologized for her misconduct associated with such a joyous occasion - but “Bless Your Heart” anyway, Ms. Parker!
