So glad we chose this site! This place is so AMAZING it's almost impossible to put it into words. Its a State park so the prices are unbelievably cheap too. The house is not the biggest in the Hudson but it's definitely the most charming. Add that to all the history, the grounds and the location and you have bar none the best outdoor venue I could find in the Hudson Valley.
Situated on the Hudson River you have a few choices for your tent: the South Meadow Lawn (2k but it's next to the house and practically on the Hudson) and the Arryl Lawns (North and South options both $600-). We chose the South Arryl Lawn as it was tucked away from the parking lot and roaming visitors but also next to the ruins of the original house. The South Arryl Lawn also has open views of the Hudson River! The only draw back is having to work out restrooms but they have "comfort station" along the parking lot. Which are clean and were just spruced up. Also heard they will eventually be remodeled. This also saved us 2k, the cost to rent nice bathrooms. I'm an interior designer so I had our florist put up some removable wall paper (partition walls), rented two vintage tbls (his/hers), added some flowers and it looked great.
All the furniture in the house is from the original family and they will arrange a tour for your guests! The grounds.... ahh the grounds, unlike most historic houses these grounds are lush and amazing with flowers and antique structures everywhere.
Would we recommend? Absolutely!!! I'm trying to convince Shelly to let us move into the Sylvan Cottage so we can renovate it.... if your reading this Shelly the offer is still no the table!!!

We love this place! We looked at so many venues, and this was the only one we loved, and we are so so glad we chose it! The site itself is insanely beautiful and so well-kept -- the mansion sits right on the hudson and the light is so magical. We originally wanted to have our reception in the arryl lawn, by the old ruins, but it presented some logistical difficulties (hard to bring a toilet in, not ideal for less mobile relatives, etc.), so we ended up having our reception on the south lawn (the most expensive option, but still way cheaper than all the barns and estates we looked at) and our ceremony by the walled garden (which was perfect). Denise was our point-of-contact at Clermont (but we were her last wedding); she was the perfect person to work with she followed up with all our vendors as needed. As Clermont is a state park, there are some rules that we had to follow (no candles except in the tent, can't hang lights from the trees, out by 11:30pm), but in the end, it really didn't matter at all, and the night was seriously perfect. As far as wedding venues go, we could not have imagined a better site. We consider it a real wedding hack :)
