Every bride knows that one of her biggest concerns is looking lovely for the day of her wedding. I had the extra pressure of needing to be dolled up for not one, but for two completely different ceremonies: a Hindu ceremony in the morning and a Western ceremony in the evening. Although I had plenty of recommendations from family, I was worried about the stylist not knowing how to do a Western ceremony; and although I found plenty of stylists on places like WeddingWire and The Knot, I was afraid they wouldn’t know how to do Hindu ceremony looks. That is why Jyoti ended up being the perfect stylist and made me the most beautiful I have ever looked in my life.
The hair and make-up trial was a very smooth and intimate process. Jyoti has done many Hindu and Western ceremonies and was not intimated by the sharp transition throughout the day. She had asked me previously for photos of inspiration and was able to recreate what I wanted while still editing it enough to fit my face and dresses. When I asked for braids for the Hindu look, she was able to quickly incorporate them. I know very little about make-up, and poor Jyoti had to create a look with my vague descriptions of “soft” and “like a princess”; yet, she still managed to pull it off. She was incredibly helpful, recommending a specific dupatta for the morning look and even remembering me while she was out shopping, finding some beautiful barrettes and texting me if I liked them and if she should purchase them for the wedding (I did and she did purchase them, and they were lovely.)
She does both Hindu and Western looks equally well. I was called an “Indian Goddess” by my friends and family in the morning, and then a “winter princess” for evening. People would stop me to tell me how lovely I looked, asking to take my photo…I felt like a celebrity! I was complimented again and again how different each look was, yet how beautiful both were.
Most importantly, I felt beautiful. When I came to Jyoti the day before the wedding worried about the dark circles under my eyes, she calmly told me not to worry, that I would be fine. She fixed them right up. She recognized that my blue eyes are one of my best qualities and did everything to make them shine; that too, I was complimented on all day, being told they look even bluer than normal! However, what means the most to me is when my groom expressed concern about his acne scars. Wanting him to feel his most beautiful, I asked Jyoti if she could touch him up. She was happy to do it, and even the groom was glowing on his big day! There are not many stylist who can say they made both the bride and groom so lovely!
Her team was amazing, making all of the bridesmaids and mothers look gorgeous as well. Their kindness and expertise doesn’t end at hair and makeup; my friend’s Hindu dress was too big, and they were able to quickly pin it so it fit her like a glove. In addition, when my own white wedding dress wouldn’t zip up, they jumped right in and was by my side getting it zipped (which they did!)
