Horrible experience getting my dress tailored here
I used Belle Atelier to tailor my wedding dress, as the shop I purchased my dress from doesn't offer alterations. Everything was good - I really enjoyed working with their head tailor, who I thought was wonderful - up until what was supposed to be my final fitting, 9 days before my wedding. When I put the dress on, it still had dozens of pins in it. The tailor was confused but then realized, they’d forgotten to finish my dress! They hadn’t cut or hemmed it, they hadn’t cut or hemmed my veil, etc. A whole slew of items on the checklist were not checked off. No problem - she took everything off me and rushed to the back room, saying she’d finish it all right then. She brought the dress back, and we realized that in her hurry, she had cut an entire layer of my dress significantly too short. Again, this is 9 days before my wedding… and the dress that I had ordered months prior, that was custom made and then shipped to the US from Israel … is now too short. Not great! Very thankfully, they did have a bolt of the exact fabric from the designer on hand, so they were able to remove and then replace the entire dress layer, but that was obviously incredibly stressful and meant I spent a lot more time at the tailor than intended. Instead of apologizing, the staff kept telling me to “trust the process,” and even seemed proud of themselves when the new layer was put in - “see, our tailors work miracles!” OK, but they shouldn’t have to… the miracle was only required due to multiple errors. The worst was when I returned the next week, the day before my wedding, to do a “final” dress fitting, for real - the owner didn’t welcome me in with any acknowledgment of what happened, let alone an apology - she just brusquely told me to come in and then to put my dress on. When I asked her if she was aware of what had happened (given I knew she had been out sick the week before) she snapped that of course she knows everything that happens in her shop, and then she yelled, “what do you want from me?” An apology and a discount would have been nice! But no, she just yelled at me the day before my wedding… it was such a bad experience that was so unnecessary.
