Teacher, photographer, and avid reader. Passionate about education, literacy, creativity, books, art, and social justice.
Photography came to me because I believe in the power of storytelling. Stories can be transcendent and transformative; it can be a tool that can change people’s outlook and perspectives, or rekindle memories from days gone by. Whether they're from books or photographs, I have always appreciated the power of a story well told.
As a photographer, I believe in capturing the true personalities, moments, and genuine connections that arise during a laid-back photography session. I want to offer snippets, little time capsules, for you to keep for always.
Passionate about photography, the outdoors, the environment, and science.
Aside from weddings, I am incredibly passionate about landscape photography as well as photo journalism. My goal with my images is to encourage others to get out there and explore their own environment. In these adventures outdoors, I hope that they are inspired to respect, appreciate, and care for the natural beauty on this planet. After all, we come from nature. We live in it, and we inevitably will return to it. Our greatest and best legacy must be the preservation and protection of what is left on what is currently our one and only home. Other than that, I love hiking, dogs, cold weather, camping, wildlife, National Parks, and glorious sunsets.
I am a passionate photographer and videographer who loves to utilize visual media to help increase public awareness and action on a variety of environmental and resilience topics. I first became enamored with photography while in middle school when I had the chance to take film photography classes. Watching a print come to life after developing the negative in the dark room was a magical process and something that always drew me to create more images.
I have a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from Western Washington University. During my degree, I also received a certificate in Geographic Information Science and a minor in Disaster Risk Reduction. I have worked on public awareness programs to reduce natural hazard risk, produced cartographic products for environmental and science organizations and worked as a photojournalist and Photo Editor for an environmental magazine. I have hiked into remote areas to set up remote camera systems for wolverine and other wildlife identification.
My areas of interest range from environmental conservation and habitat restoration to increasing community resilience, community capital and capacity building, as well as working to advance social and environmental equity. One of my earliest memories is being held near the front of a boat and watching dolphins riding the bow wave below. Having the opportunity to be present during these types of events was a privilege but also one that can have profound effects on how one thinks about the world. My parents made sure to expose me to many situations where wonder, admiration, and reverence for the plant and animal life of this planet would be ingrained within me for the rest of his life. I hope that some small inkling of the feelings I have experienced for the life and ecosystems of this incredible planet can be passed on through my images or inspire others to seek them out for themselves.
Outside of professional passions and endeavors, I love spending time outdoors exploring and watching wildlife, camping, hiking, and backpacking with his wife, Jillian and their adopted dog, Aspyn.
