Based in Fountain Valley, CA - Ane Thanh Lion Dance was founded in 2004 as an extracurricular activity for Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society (Thieu Nhi Thanh The) as well as a new addition to the Vo Duong Quang Trung Binh Dinh family and performs throughout Little Saigon and the rest of the Orange county area. ATLD performs various for functions such as grand openings, weddings, parades, dinner parties, and of course Lunar New Year (Tet) celebrations.

The tradition of lion dance has been part of East Asian culture for over one thousand years. These performances entertain children and adults alike through making the lion come to life and by demonstrations of acrobatic feats.

It is believed that a traditional lion dance performace would ward off evil spirits and bring luck, happiness, and prosperity to all. Two dancers perform the Dance. One dancer takes control of the head and the other is engaged in the movement of the body and tail. The head mask is made up of light materials like paper- Mache and bamboo. The head is colored with different color to display different characters. The body is created by using cloths that is attached to the head. The dance movement of the animal is accompanied by music produced by a large drum, Cymbals and a gong. A little, Buddha teasing it with a fan or a gaint ball adds the amusement of the dance. The dancer moves the mouth, eyes and ears of the lion to express the mood.
