Will/Do you wear your shoes again?

GrayCatVintage, on February 8, 2014 at 11:59 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I guess I was the only person who did not realize you were supposed to have "wedding shoes". When I got online, I noticed that many brides use their wedding as a "good excuse" to buy a REALLY pricey pair of designer heels. Is this because you plan on wearing them again or is this proper etiquette? I had just planned on wearing some flats I already own with my dress since my FH and I are the same height. Is this tacky? Should I also have all by BMs get matching shoes too? I was just going to send them fabric swatches and tell them to pick a dress in the same color wheel so they can save some money and get what they want.

I knew my shoes were never going to be seen for my wedding - so I just got pair of champagne satin pumps that I loved, were comfortable, and would wear over and over again.

I found some lacy Toms knock-offs at Payless Shoes for $20 (Airwalk) and I thought "Hey, those look comfy and kind of bridal". But then I thought...well maybe that is really tacky. BUT I would totally wear them again Smiley smile

I can't imagine spending a crazy amount of money on shoes that 1. people won't see under my gown & 2. will just sit in the closet forever.

I didn't spend a crazy amount of money on my shoes, but I still bought shoes for the wedding. Yes, I'll wear them again.

As for BMs, I don't care what shoes or dresses they wear as long as they're all the color and fabric I requested. So I think you're fine if you give them color swatches.

We will be walking in grass for our ceremony so I did not want to sink either. I guess if I need a bit of a heel I can do a wedge, but you are right MrsNewvine no one will see them.

"I'm getting married" is a great excuse to splurge but you have to be careful to not over splurge yourself right outside of your budget, so pick a few items or wedding details to just go all out on with the understanding that you may need to cut back in other aspects. Ideally, you only get married once so you should fully enjoy yourself. It's a great time to get all those fancy embellishments you didn't get for prom but wanted. Me, I got a pair of shoes on sale that I will wear again, because I don't like buying things I know I'm not going to use and I don't want a pair of shoes taking up space in my closet that I could use for a pair of boots I will wear. My splurge area was a pair of lace fingerless bridal gloves/cuffs. I wanted bridal gloves because not many brides have them and it fits into our Modern Victorian theme.

Definitely. I'll either wear shoes I have or buy shoes I will wear again.

Some of my friends had really fancy weddings and went all out with the gown and accessories. My FH and I plan on buying a house the year after we are married so we are keeping the wedding budget very reasonable. Of my friends who had fancy weddings, they got really pretty designer shoes (with a hefty price tag) and had like 30 pictures taken of them...I did not understand this. I guess you are supposed to have "nice" shoes because photos will be taken of them? I don't know haha!

DH is quite a bit taller than I am, so I opted for 3" heels in peach satin (my ivory satin dress was tea length). I wore the shoes a few times before I ruined them at a wedding I officiated. The wedding was at a home, but outside in the yard after rain. My heels were sinking into the mud and I was getting shorter by the minute!

I love bridal shots when the shoes are showing, so I wanted a really nice pair of shoes.

I don't think it's part of etiquette to splurge on shoes. I have yet to buy mine, but my pintrest board is filled with online buys anywhere from $10 - $30 in shoes, so if we're supposed to splurge, I'm probably doing it wrong. But, if you decide that you want to keep your wedding shoes as a keepsake, I've seen cute things people have done with them in shadow boxes as decorations. Honestly, I think it's up to you. If you saved on your shoes, splurge on something that's more important to you! It is your wedding day! Smiley smile

I'm buying new shoes for the wedding because I want to wear a low heel, and the ONLY comfortable pair of low heels I have do not go with my dress (my dress is navy blue and covered in sparkles; the shoes are dark brown patent wedges). So I need comfortable low silver heels that are weddingly stylish.

I probably won't wear them again, but mostly because I RARELY wear heels.

Our colors are chocolate, tan and white. Just scored a pair of Franco Sarto suede and patent chocolate brown pumps that are super comfortable and the perfect heel height. I definitely will wear them again. My dress is white, he is wearing a tan suit with chocolate brown vest and shoes. I'm hoping the upload works

I bought shoes specifically for the wedding, but I actually didn't like any of the expensive designer ones, plus the heels were too high for what I was looking for.

I hope that I will wear mine again, they are cute! But I don't really wear heels all that often because I don't go many places that they are really appropriate.

I told my BMs to wear plain black shoes, heels preferrably for the ceremony and if they want to bring flats to change into go for it. I knew most of them would have black shoes of some sort.
