What do you remember most??

Ruth, on August 26, 2014 at 12:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 40

What do you remember most about weddings you've been to in the past? Good food? Bad food? Decor? Music? Is there something you LOVE to see or HATE to see at weddings? What are things that a lot of people do that could be skipped?

I seem to remember unique things at weddings. 1 persons decor...anothers food...another was nothing with the wedding just a lot of fun!

Thanks all!

From the last wedding I went to I remember very little other than..

    1. They used a hawk to bring the rings down the aisle.

    2. After dinner we had to stand the entire time because there were no chairs in the room where the dancing was so either we had to sit in the dinner room alone or dance/stand in the dancing room.

I remember the food/cake, and whether or not I had a good time.

I also remember the atmosphere - were the bride and groom and bridal party having a good time, was anyone stressed, was there drama, etc.

Food and if I was properly hosted (I remember the wedding fondly!) and if I had an awesome time. If I was hosted rudely, I remember how rude it was.

I haven't been to a ton of weddings, but I remember a lot of the details, because I'm really visual: floral arrangements (centerpieces especially), favours, food. Lately I've been noticing cakes, becuase I've gotten into making cakes (and I'm making my own wedding cake!)

I actually remember the father/daughter dance the most at the last wedding I have been to! The song was "Dance with my father again" by Luther Van Dross. It's a song about a father that passed away and the daughter wishes she could dance with her father again. Her father was alive and she was dancing with him! It didn't make sense to me! So much so that is mostly all that I remember!

    I remember:

-the ceremony the most clearly and the bride/bridesmaids dresses

-the bar and if the booze was a nasty well or premium

-the atmosphere and if everyone seemed to be having a good time

-I never remember the how the cake tastes (but may remember what it looked like)

-The centerpieces (after awhile. I only think I remember them right now because I have gone to two weddings this summer while I have been deciding on centerpieces)

    -DIYs and decor

    -Favors

    -bathroom baskets

I remember the food, the music, and any special things that they may have done at the ceremony or reception, as well as the overall feel of it: Did I feel relaxed, did I feel out of place, did I feel scared (yes, I have been to a wedding where I was very scared and had an anxiety attack), was there enough structure to the wedding or was it a mess? I MIGHT remember the bride's dress if I cared enough about them (ex: I was forced to go to weddings for cousins and I don't remember their dresses, but I remember my MOH's and other friends' dresses).

I also remember the bride getting really PISSED off at her brother'n'law for getting drunk. I wouldn't have even noticed he was drunk if the bride wouldn't have been YELLING at him in front of everyone! I also remember a person that we shared a table with had a flask drinking hard liquor. I don't remember them having a seating chart.

I NEVER remember what the bride looked like, what decorations there were, what the cake looked like or what exactly we ate.

What I do remember are varied things. I don't remember the dancing at one friend's, but another friend's I remembered it. I remember if the food tasted good or bad. I remember the alcohol, even though I am not much of a drinker. Ex: at the last wedding they had pre-mixed drinks that was served in coolers. The beginning of the night they were very strong because the alcohol sank to the bottom. About an hour in you basically just got watered down pop and barely any alcohol. They also served the wine from old, used orange juice containers that they labeled which wine it was. And even though they served me earlier in the night, the next time I got a drink they carded me. I was 24 and had an engagement ring on. It's not like I was 12. It was strange because it was a pretty nice place so I don't know why the alcohol was so effed up. I only drank two drinks because it was such a disaster.

@ Kathleen: I'm 31 and still get carded! And that has happened to me before, they didn't card you for your first drink, but did for your 2nd or 3rd! I also have an identical twin that they didn't card, but DID card me! I mean we look EXACTLY a like! WTF! I even had people think my ID was fake because it looked like my sisters! They would serve her then when it came to me they didn't believe my ID was real! It's like OBVIOUSLY we are TWINS... UGHHH

Hahaha. Wow. That's strange. I didn't mind being carded. I just thought it was strange. It was a no kids reception. There was only the flower girl. Other than that, I think I was probably the youngest one there. They didn't even have younger cousins to invite. So it was just odd. I understand having to card. But they should have carded me to start with. I ended up only drinking two sips of that drink anyways because it was gross. They also refused to let anyone have more than one drink. Which sucked because people were offering to get drinks for people at the table. Then they came back and had to explain it and everyone had to wait in the long line and order themselves. It was strange. The bride was not happy with that hall. But it was a middle of nowhere town so that was the only place they could have it.

Wedding favours. I have judged every wedding I've been to based on their wedding favours. It's the one thing I remember from every single wedding I've been to.

Another thing I remember is how BORING the ceremony is! And every wedding I have EVER been to had a BORING ceremony. I admit, I'm ADD and most things are boring to me. I chose not to go to a catholic wedding because I assumed it would be LONG and BORING! I'm not against Catholics, and sorry if I offended anyone... but I'm easily bored! On a side note, I didn't know the bride or groom well (only met them once).

@angie I agree. Ceremonies can be painful! Ours should only be about 20 min to a half hour! Smiley smile

Contrary to the above, I love and remember the ceremonies the most. Specifically, the looks on the bride and grooms faces as they say their vows. Its one of my favorite parts!

Also the venue. But maybe I've been lucky, all the weddings I've been to as an adult have been in neat places.

I don't see our ceremony lasting more than 1/2 hour. We aren't doing anything religious, but my fw insists on the candle unity. I want it to be short, sweet, and to the point as possible! I'm also adding programs with "fun facts" on them for people to read if they get bored. And having music play while they are seating,,, not classical music, but thought provoking music.
