Tacky to have plastic plates?

So, we've already bought real wine glasses and real silverwear for our hors d'oevres wedding reception, but I'm not sure about buying or renting real plates. They sell nice looking plastic ones with gold rims at smartyhadaparty.com, but I'm worried that our guests will think we're cheap and tacky....

Also, my FH thinks the 7 and a half inch salad plates will be large enough, but I'm wondering if we should go for full-sized plates. It is buffet style, so people can go back if they want more food. What do you think?

At first I said no, then our caterer showed them to me and I couldn't believe they were plastic. So we have plastic.

I would rather spend more money on the photography than on plates. Besides, they will remember the food on the plates.... not the upgraded disposables they ate off of.

We're having a tacky wedding too! They look good stacked on the buffet tables & the best part is it saved enough money to spend more on our photographer Smiley winking

Thanks everyone! I do like the idea of spending more money on the photographer a beautiful cake, and good wine. Since our wedding is very much Do It Yourself, having less heavy plates to haul around and wash is great. I think we'll already need to rent a U-Haul for all the vases, candles, table cloths, chair covers, flower arrangements, glasses, wine, food, etc. Thank goodness the venue supplies chairs and tables! :-)

We had the nice plastic plates, which we got from The WEBstaurant Store. At least at the time, they were less expensive than Smarty Had a Party.

We are doing disposables! We chose the palm leaf plates and bowls from Wasserstrom (http://www.wasserstrom.com/restaurant-supplies-equipment/Product_6002265). We're doing wood forks, knives etc. too. I think it fits the feel of our wedding!

I think that disposables at a wedding look just as good as real china.

We found a website (http://www.thecloseoutconnection.com/plastic-goods-s/1846.htm) which has a large selection of fancy plastic plates that really look like china, they also have plastic flatware that look like real silver flatware!

We are also thinking of using their tablecloths, they cost to buy about as much as it costs to rent them, and we are really looking into it.

I'm planning to use clear plastic plates. Simple and cute. My wedding is white black and silver.

    Hi Allison

I found these that might look super nice. They are made of plastic but look like silver. Check this out! Silver Disposable Plastic Plates

    Hope this is helpful!
