Plus one Invitations

Madison, on June 14, 2011 at 2:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I would like my single guests to know that they are able to bring a plus one, but I don't have an inner envelope for my invitation. Is it okay to write Ms. Jane Doe and Guest on the mailing envelope or...?

    That's what I'm doing.

I am doing it on the outer envelopes as well. I didn't see the need for inner and outer envelopes.

Proper etiquette dictates that you should find out their names & address the envelopes accordingly. This makes escort/table/place card creation easier in the end.

I think I will just put the one person's name and simply put and guest on the rsvp card..of course if I know the person's name they are dating I will put it on there..if they aren't dating anyone but I want to give them a guest, especially if they have a long ways to travel I'll just put and guest, or 2 seats reserved in your honor..on the RSVP I'll be sure to put please write names of those attending..I'm not sure exactly which way I'll do yet, but those make sense to me.

@Ab-z - that sounds like a nice solution if you just don't know their name.

And remember - you don't have to do the +1. If you can afford the extra meal for a stranger & have the space, its gracious of you, though.

Right, for the ones where they are in a long term relationship and I know their name, it says that person's name: i.e. John Smith and Jill Jones

For those that do not have a steady gf/bf it says "John Smith and Guest."

For place cards, they will have "John Smith" and "John Smith's Guest".
